I've been lurking on this board forever...came over from the mailing list in the days of Rodo's Rants, Ian Wilson and Gus Funnel

like others, I lurked for awhile before joining, but I don't recall if I was on this board or the ESPN boards before under a different name (maybe both). Usually was listed under some form of vatman for a play on my last name, and obviously batman. It's back when I was young enough to think I was cool.

I remember all those great posters that have already been mentioned. I used to love when Jeff got into it with, I think, Bruins37? That was always fun. I remember another guy I liked to read was MeisterBruinMaker, or something like that. He was from California if I remember right.

There weren't any team forums back in the old days. There were two, the Trade message board that also served as the general discussing area and the more serious Prospects Board. Most fights and arguments were on the Trade Board.

From Boston I do remember DaBroons, also Jeff from Maine. I vaguely remember the younger Bruins posters teasing Gee Wally about his age a lot.

I had a problem with my previous account in 2003 (password or something) and just started a new one (which is why I'm not Feb 2002).

Chehabi was the first poster on all team boards. On the day they created the new team forums, he went to each one and posted first for some reason (good trivia question).

I forget the name of the brothers that started HF. I think they sold to Crave for $800,000. A lot of people then wished they had started the idea first.

The Taylors

Chehabi did it because he got the very last post on the old format. He and I waited there talking to each other until literally the final second before the switch was thrown. He had senority over me for time of membership so it seemed only fitting he get 'last word'.
Then it seemed to make sense he get 'first word' on the new format. Good guy Chehabi. For a Habs fan that is.

:D

Wasn't it Gee Wally that "pressed that button" and sent all of us posters lost in internet land for a while?

Nope. Wasnt me. :D

meister was around before me... dkh and dabroons were the guys i respected most and convinced me to stick around. loved how gary signed off his posts with an optomistic cheer. shane walsh was our moderator in the early days. don was around. cant remember if kirk predated me or not. i hate trying to remember off my head cause im sure i miss a dozen guys who deserve a mention.

i got to admit i liked how it felt like a private club for friends back then. we welcomed new comers but only if they were here for fun. we had each others backs and we demanded everyone show some respect

im happy for the board owners if growth led to profit. i think alot of great posters have come along to enrich the discussion. but its frustrating when we has something so treasured and alot of people come along and crap on it

what is lost cant be found again... the age of innocence is gone.. but i appreciate this walk down memory lain

All true. Its the downside of growth. I can remember when the entire site had only 100 to 200 total members. Now its over 100,000. Its crazy.

Shane made me my avatar. Ive never chsnged it and will be forever grateful.
I also think that 20 years ago, 1997 was the first year here, people like me the internet was so new that you still were civil. Had manners I guess. It was more like conversing in a pub. People for the most part hadnt been cultured yet that they were anonymous and hiding behind a keyboard. Thats my theory anyway.

The Taylors. Good memory. Thanks.

lain and Redtwilight were two Edmonton posters from that early period. Redtwilight passed away. I don't know what happened to Darth (Darth Milbury, then Darth Yashin). I remember a few others like Sturminator, a Blues poster called Gassoff or Bob Gassof that banned himself after throwing a tantrum. Buffaloed took care of the servers for awhile I think. But DaBroons was one of my favorites from the Boston area. I spent the early years trying to trade Yashin away from Ottawa to anyone that would listen.
