Who should be the captain next year?

Watching Matthew's TRY to throw a hit is embarrassing.
Best not to praise him for his physicality.
It's non-existent.
 
I think it's time we name a captain. Only because it's time we end the drama and give votes of confidence in our players, coach, GM and get back to enjoying the team. A captain will go along way of starting that trend. Followed by a great draft and off season.
It's time to show the world we believe in our core Matthews with the C. Rielly and Marner with the A's imo.
 
Name Rielly or Tavares captain, already! Mitch and Auston aren't ready for it, nor have the demonstrated captain leadership, yet!

Give it to the next guy that signs an 8 year deal, it doesn't matter who it is either, imo

What has JT and Rielly done in the past year that has demonstrated so much more leadership than AM34?

Not trying to sound snarky or stir the pot, I just don't know that anyone has stood out as a clear cut captain and because of that I think they wait until they give it to Matthews when ever that may be.

They both signed for fair value contracts, while Matthews wanted to get the 2nd biggest contract in the NHL (despite not even being a top 15 player). Matthews also complains every season about his linemates / coaching decisions. Doesn't sound all that mature to me.

Tavares and Rielly also do more media interviews...

Tavares and it's not even close. Rielly assistant and Muzzin assistant and Barrie assistant.

I don't think Matthews should have his leadership questioned over wanting to get paid, good on the guy for getting the money. Also where are all these complaints?

It has been the policy for years to have the older guys do more interviews, Rielly in the grand scheme of this team is an older guy on this team.
 
JT or Rielly. Matthews doesn't seem very Captain like. It's not his team and it shows. From the looks of it, people are starting to shy away from our US born star. Perhaps the Babcock meeting or the Hyman protest or just the money is influencing it.

The odd thing is even Marner has more support than Matthews... Its strange to me.

As far as Im concerned Mathews blew it with his whining and complaining, Marner needs to be careful with how his signing goes but might still be into it. But either Reilly or Tavares. Mathews doesnt have enough team spirit as Reilly
 
The correct answer remains that not a single person here has been inside the dressing room and none of us have a clue.
 
Marner. Supportive team first guy. All about the winning. j/k I clicked his name by accident and can't unclick it. Once Mitch is signed the players should pick one.

I voted Marner months ago, I've now since changed my mind. I never thought he would hesitate signing with his hometown team for a few extra bucks that he'll never spend in his lifetime.

Have to agree with this, Matthews still has a fair bit of growing up to do.
