Matthews/Marner: holding out for every penny ( there right I may even do the same) but I’ll take the sacrificial player in John.

Lead by example both on and off the ice. I think it needs to go to the guy that can support the group both on and off the ice. He's gone through the injuries, contract negotiations and the heart ache. He's a winner at multiple levels and can support the team through adversity.

I never understood how you could give the C to guys so young like Crosby and MacKinnon. Its as much about learning the NHL.

Or was it like during or end of the training camp? That's classy right thurr like chingy was. Toronto Maple Leafs (Legendary) are selecting a new captain this summer. This organization ain't ready until we have all the puzzles at place and one of them is CAPTAIN period. A Maple Leafs of Toronto team needs always a captain. No matter what. Can't be a real winner until.

Reading your posts is always an event for me. It's written like a rambling Chris Tucker in Rush Hour. But I always read it in Peter Falk's voice because of your avatar.

So I get this strange mash-up. Like Chris Tucker is somehow standing next to Inigo Montoya, shouting about recent hockey news.

Other: Don't appoint one next year.

I'm sure that is what happens anyways, but I want the Babcock situation to be figured out before we appoint one. If Babcock proves he deserves to stay here long term, then he can appoint one based on who he feels helped us move forward (because IMO he only gets to stay if he gets us out of the first round) the most out of the team. Otherwise, I'd want the next coach (i.e. Keefe) to pick the captain. Maybe not first year, but in year two or three.

I would personally just appoint Matthews as an 'A' next year and in a few years, decide which one of the 'A's' (Rielly, Tavares or Matthews) will become the 'C'. Those are the only ones I would consider for the 'C' anyways.

I agree with this. Drew Doughty never wore an A for the Kings for a very long time despite being their best player.

I'd go with Rielly. Due to the imbalance of assets on this roster, Morgan is the most likely to be retained beyond his current contract. We have no choice, who else would be our #1D? Not going to acquire one, not going to develop one. The only way Morgan is off this team is if he asks to be. Don't see that happening if we pay him $10-11+.

Matthews, gone in 5 years.

Marner, punk. Gone in 4 weeks.

I'm of the mind that the captain should be a drafted player if you have one that makes sense. Morgan. Apologies to JT.
