Who is the softest team in the playoffs? Which team brings to most grit?

The Leafs are soft not because a lack of grit, but a lack of psyche. Faced with a little bit of adversity they will fold like a house of cards. I am fully prepared to see some next level pouting on the faces of the Leafs superstars. Soft as baby poo.

Lightning are winning that one.

New Jersey is going to get creamed.
Not the 1st time the Devils got creamed lol, but it does show toughness to take a pounding and keep coming back for more

Its because drai takes most nights off to stay healthy imo. He has tools that allow him to bully people when it matters, even with the puck. You will see it in the playoffs, or when he's mad. He's mean and just as chippy as Kane -- he plays the slash and crosscheck game during a line change at an elite level.
Oh trust me, I get that.

I just think McDavid is more consistently physical, in terms of finishing his checks.

I do love playoff Draisaitl though, he's an absolute beast when it comes playoff time. The exact type of big body you want up the middle in your top-6 come playoff time. When he's pissed off, he plays his best hockey imo.

If I built a team of girl scouts and wanted them the best chance to win

Gotta be the leafs...nothing really scares me up or down that roster

I don't think this has anything to do with hitting, necessarily. A team that has the puck doesn't necessarily have to hit.

I have no idea how the Devils will react to the playoffs, but they play a relentless game. The Rangers already showed last year that they're like cockroaches. Both of those responses seem incorrect.

My vote is Carolina. Not because they don't hit. They're a 60% possession team, when are they supposed to hit? They just can't handle adversity. They blow leads if you look at them funny and constantly shoot their load in the first period. One goal against turns into six. Seen it many times from them. They have enough experience to know better by now.

I haven't seen anybody in the West enough to comment on how they handle the mental grind.

Some Leafs fans on these boards make me laugh..

Mentioning Matthews, O'Reilly, and Knies in a thread that has to do with grit.

Majority of teams have like 6+ guys upfront who play with more grit than those 3.

I don’t think I've ever seen O'Reilly play physical, and I definitely don't recall him ever scraping. Don't let the big boy beard fool you.
Grit is not fighting. It’s playing hard, and not shrinking away from physicality. Don’t know what ROR is like now, but in the past, he was a very gritty player who lead a gritty team to a Cup win. Knies is somewhat of an unknown quality in the NHL, but he was man amongst boys in college, and the little bit I’ve seen of him so far in the NHL suggest that he will be plenty physical once he adjusts to the NHL.

Mathews is a big boy, and will use his frame when he sees fit. Frankly, I want one of the most talented goal scorers in the league scoring goals, not getting into tussles with bottom six players. He is this generations Beliveau, who was also a big man that used his size, but didn’t bother to respond to bottom of the lineup, “grit” players. That was Ferguson’s job.

Horses for courses.

Except most of Colorado core players were not afraid to muck it up.

Yes, they had skill and speed but they also had a lot of grit.

Do you really see Matthews and Marner willing to go into the dirty areas like Mackinnon? I don't.

You think Matthews scored 60 goals without going to the dirty areas? Seriously give it a break

The Leafs have never lost a series because of being "soft" even if at times they were soft. It is funny though how disproportionally the soft part gets talked about over the actual reasons the team has lost the series.

As a Leafs fan, I'd say they were pretty soft against the Habs a couple of years ago. I think the team learned a lot about what it takes to win after that series.

Mentally soft I would agree. I do not think the Leafs have lost a series because they have been physically pushed around at any point. To varying degrees in each year the most common reason we haven't won a series 1. Special teams 2. Goaltending 3. Coaching. Special teams probably the far and away biggest reason of them all.

Unrelated but it’s crazy what Desharnais gets away with in front of the net, he wack and slash you like Chris Pronger circa 2003. He will be so valuable for the Oilers in those playoffs.

thats montreal soft. Take that shit somewhere else.
Just checked the thread title. Montreal doesn't apply. Playoffs? It is Toronto all the way. The softest team in the NHL playoffs is without a doubt the Toronto Maple Leafs. Their psyche is soft and will crumble in round #1 (again)

a Montreal' fans shitty takes dont apply either, go hang out at a local montreal course and see if you can get Wideman to sign something for your you at the teams golf tournament
I mean....I could come back with a silly comment....but I think I will just link a morsel of evidence to the softness surrounding the Maple Leafs come playoff time. I could share a few years more worth of soft stuff, but I fear it would be labelled as more "shitty takes".

Enjoy..
