He's not an option because with his NMC he can't be moved, and because with him being overpaid for the last two years by about 7 or 8 million, nobody will take him (I don't think there's an equally bad contract that could come back).Do you guys get paid by f***ing Tavares?
Why is Tavares not in any option, he should be thrown away along with his shitty pajama before anyone else.
His idea of a "big hometown discount" last time was $11M x 7 and a full NMC.Main reason I don’t want to trade JT is because I think he take a big hometown discount on his next deal
"No where to be found" yet managed to be tied with Matty for shots and only a couple of points behind (despite 20% less ice time and hall the PP time), not to mention almost single-handedly pulling us back from the 4-1 deficit.Funny how everyone is loving nylander but where was he in round 1? Matthews was our MVP in round 1 while nylander was no where to be found.
Nylander was the MVP of round 2 and still only scored 2 goals in 5 games.
I think the poster didn't want to emphasize how bad the $11M players were by showing how much better the $7M player was. It's weird how the softest guy on the team Nylander get's left off of this list with 2 goals and 1 assist.
Also Barkov got 1 goal and 2 assists, both assists last night and Tkachuk had 5 assists and no goals.
I’m done with seeing retirement “Club Med” deals for Toronto boys.Main reason I don’t want to trade JT is because I think he take a big hometown discount on his next deal
We had a mediocre NHL coach blessed with elite talent who individually can pull games out of the fire in the regular season with a slight burst in effort and focus. As troubling as his in-game strategy was, his distinct lack of subtlety in dealing with officiating was worse often going into petulant rages that I'm sure influenced no one. Gone.
Our GM also blessed with inheriting someone else's elite talent went with duct tape and dumpster diving to fix the goaltending for these pivotal seasons. One was a physical wreck as expected (Murray). The other was supposed to be an uneven performer and also turned out to be physically fragile as well (Samsonov). The default became an unpolished greenhorn who fortunately wasn't a disaster but very much could have been. The GM is a serial offender with questionable goaltending decisions (Sparks, Mrazek). The GM traded away draft picks left and right to make this team a proper contender. They weren't a proper contender, they got handled fairly easily by a younger more robust team that openly taunted them in victory. It was an embarrassing loss. They went 1-5 at home in the 2023 NHL playoffs.
Since I couldn't vote on the poll because if I tried to click on any of the options an ad would come up I'll do it here. Get rid of Dubas, Keefe, Matthews (who wants to leave anyway), and Marner. Let Holl, Bunting, and Kerfoot walk.
Trade Jarnkrok, Brodie. Keep Knies, Schenn, ROR, Acciari, Lafferty, Kampf, Lilly, McCabe. Robidas for Muzzin and Murray. Keep Woll and Sammy. Get rid of Tavares if you can (not likely).
I saved the best for last. Time for me to eat a little crow. The two guys on this team who I am the hardest on in the regular season, Reilly, and Willie, are playoff warriors you keep and make leaders on this team. Build around them and the people I said to keep above.
EDIT: Gio, time to retire.
The big question re. Dubas for me is my fear that he takes loyalty too far. I'd like him to stay, but only if he's willing to make some changes. Then there's the question of if he even wants to stay.
First change he has to be willing to make is Keefe, he's on the top of my shit list and if Dubas doesn't agree he needs to go, then Dubas needs to go.
Then it's Matthews and Nylander, I'd resign both depending on the cost. If they want too much, then trade them for whatever you can get. You simply can't say sign them, without knowing the cost, not in this cap world. What's Matthews worth though, that's the toughest question perhaps.
All the other decisions flow from that. I'd like to see what we can get for Marner, we could get a ton for him in a trade as he has two years left on his contract. I'm in the "at least on core piece has to move" crowd and he's the logical choice.
Trading all of the big 3 has some appeal, on one hand you could say this team is so close, they played really well last night so just do a little tweaking but we've been doing that for so many years and it's gotten us nowhere. But then, I don't think ownership would be willing to do a massive rebuild so as appealing as that might seem, I think it's off the table.
So many moving pieces, impossible to predict what's going to happen. If they bring back Keefe and M&M though, it's going to be hard for me to get up for next season.
Just Marner, would be enough. But price is too rich for Detroit. If anyone is going to take Marner+ it’ll have to start around your best winger, top 3 prospect and your 1st
Dubas needs to go. Poor drafting, over paid Mathews & Marner & the Tavaras signing. Now pay structure has to be corrected so they can ice a more balanced team. Nylander deserves a raise, Mathews is already getting more than he should & Marner's already overpaid. Contracts should decide who stays or goes. Brodie, Holl, Kerfoot, Aston Reese, Giordano need to be replaced. There is nothing on Marlies though. Need bigger, meaner team & a more confident, assertive coach to push this team forward. Wander how core would have reacted to Paul Maurices tirade on the bench during their last regular season game? Actually, I think we know.Just Marner, would be enough. But price is too rich for Detroit.
I swear they've conditioned themselves to think everything he does is/was elite.Dubas, a "high end executive"? Ell oh ell.
Dubas supporters act like he hit a triple but the reality is he was the pinch runner put on third with no outs and in the end got thrown out at the plate on a sacrifice fly to end the game.
The $7M guy actually put the puck in the net and the $11M boys didn't.It's weird how the softest guy on the team Nylander get's left off of this list with 2 goals and 1 assist.
Also Barkov got 1 goal and 2 assists, both assists last night and Tkachuk had 5 assists and no goals.
How can you take this poll seriously when Reilly got 25 votes?
Is Reilly being traded to get Makar to come this way?
But it should not be an option to begin with. Also I don't see Murray, lolAtleast it's less than every other option lol
