Interesting to read this topic. I had no idea how bad a reputation Finns have. Are they assholes only to Swedes or in general? :)
Outside of hfboards i don't think Finns are particularly hated, but when i remember those times when Patrik Laine threads gathered every idiot that our country can provide... i've not been very active after those days, felt like this site got broken.

Yeaterday in the Germany - Czechia game, 90% of the intermissions were spent talking about Team Canada, who didn’t play that day. Frustrating for sure!

I get frustrated with Canadian hockey fans as a Canadian. I don't understand why we're so obsessed with dominance. I don't want to dominate. I like challenge, I like diversity, and I want to see this sport persist and grow in unexpected ways.

One of the most sad aspect of women's hockey is how other countries haven't risen up to the challenge and it makes it impossible to watch unless its canada v usa.

Probably Canada. It's hard to compete with the world with such a low population, so when it happens it's like a noob cockiness explosion.

That's not necessarily true.

For every Canadian that wants to destroy the opposition, there's a Canadian who wants to limit the number of teams in tournaments to exclude one-sided games.

I can easily vote for Canada despite being a Canadian. We are a pretty loud group when it comes to hockey and whatever else we happen to win!

i wish theyd start counting a medal for each member of a team, rather than one. 20 hockey players earn one medal, one skier can earn 5 alone.

It might get Norway more into developing hockey, too.

They just need 5 on 5 hockey, 4 on 4 hockey, 3 on 3 hockey and shootout events.

Canadian footie/soccer fans are very nice

Well we have every reason to be, now, after 30+ years of some really brutal men's soccer.

After watching the women's team climb the ladder and enter an elite group, it's nice to see the men's team finally make some progress too.

Hence the optimism!

I read that no country climbed more than Canada in the last year!

Yep, I think the men's team was awarded "most improved" this year, which is rather fitting given their qualifier results thus far.

I know we're getting in by virtue of being co-hosts in 2026, but a surprise entry into the 2022 WC would be just fantastic. :handclap:

Was it the German or Czechia broadcast you were watching?

The thing that impressed me the most... I'm an Oil fan so I'm on Oil sites a lot.. the people of Alberta were into it! They were talking about the one game during an Oil game. Oil fans are diehard.. I was really impressed.

Yeah, Alphonso Davies is a world class player and they have a host of good players behind him too. Canada has taken great strides in the last decade.
only to get some votes for switzerland. I often read on these boards that a world cup has to be best on best so I think CONCACAF shouldn't be awarded with a fixed spot, let them play a play-off against a european team to earn their spot and if you really want to see davies play why not form a team north america, reasonable isnt't it?

A Team North America? WTF? That would be stupid. As much as CONCACAF gets shit on, it really isn't that bad. UEFA has 13 spots as is, maybe even that is still a bit underrepresented but soon it will be 48 teams anyways so everyone who is anyone is going to make it and qualification will be a joke everywhere.

hey I agree with you but honestly I'm no friend of the 48 team tournament though, just wanted to troll a bit and argued the same as many canadians when it comes to whether switzerland should participate in a best on best in ice hockey ;)

No need for that, the Swiss have challenged us at best-on-best tournaments, and even won, so take solace in that.

Lots of us still remember Martin Gerber.
