not necessarily. Without larkin we could’ve been in a position instead of 6-9 to get 1-4

maybe celebrini Carlson Smith Bedard Fantilli instead of kasper and danielson

I have zero faith any changes would have resulted in lottery help. This team sucked, its hard to suck the most in a 32 team league over 82 games.

That is kind of where I am at, I appreciate the complaints because they have great emotional energy coming from a place of wanting the team to succeed, which is what we all want. It's just not based in reality because there wasn't an alternative pathway that would have fixed the issues. It would have much more likely made the issues worse. I am grateful we have a GM that committed to the slow roll. Cheap short term plugs and draft the core. That was the only probable option for success and despite the complaints, its working.

Okay we have Buffalo looking to offload some of their young guys with potential. Vancouver might be moving Petterson.

Too frequently have trades for players that we could use, gone down at prices that I think we could have matched/beaten without us making a move.

If we see Elias Petterson moved at a discount, Dylan Cozens snatched up for a collection of middling assets, Bowen Byram on the move again, etc and we can't get any of these guys, I'd be disappointed. This is a great chance to bolster the rebuild with some talent and shake up a roster that badly needs it.

I mean, we've all wanted Petterson on the wings since he was a 16 year old in Sweden. Now is our chance. Make it happen Stevie Y

Last season I agree. The bad teams went all out suck. Mo and Ray were good enough that we would still have finished 6th at worst. That said, this team is really bad when Larkin doesn't play.

4-10-0 last season without Larkin. Carry that for 82 games and they would have tied for last place. Ray isn't doing shit without Larkin, otherwise he'd still be on the second line. The Wings don't have another center that can drive the play, guys like Copp/Compher/Kasper/Raz/Joey/Fish aren't going up against top pair D.

Considering how bad the team is with Larkin this season, if he misses games, this team will get a top 4 pick for sure. A full season without DBoss, and this team is dead bottom.

I like the idea but I still struggle to see an in season move of this magnitude, mostly for cap reasons.

At least 1 of, if not multiple of Copp/Compher/Holl/Chairot would have to be included. If another GM sees some value maybe there is a shot but if they are viewed as poorly as our fanbase views them Id say there is no chance any of this can happen for detroit until the offseason. That's not to say its impossible - I'm just a skeptic anything big happens.

I also think it is important to stay patient. This thing is moving in the right direction so don't make a panic move (not suggesting that's what you want).

No chance of happening and getting both but since Adams is desperate to save his job lol ... just for the fun of it

Cozens and byram for

2025 1st top 10 protected for 2 seasons, unprotected 2027

2027 2nd

Kasper(would suck to lose him) mazur compher wallinder gustafsson(to replace byram leaving)

Sabres are a cap team I believe so they'd be saving some $ if they wanted to make another move

maybe trade wallinder and some new assets for someone else like zegras since they have power dahlin Samuelson on the left side?

Rasmussen larkin raymond
Debrincat cozens kane
Tarasenko Copp Berggren
Motte veleno fischer
Watson

Edvinsson seider
Byram chiarot
Johansson petry
Holl

Prob would have to make another move for a forward for the 3rd line unless we bring up danielson to prepare him for a full nhl season next year

Again no chance this happens , i can see a byram deal being more of a reality than cozens

we currently have $10.4m of cap space at the trade deadline according to puckpedia, which is 77 days away

How does that save Adams' job? By the time those picks develop into NHL players, he'll be long gone.

He needs a quick fix. They only have one player with double digit goals, and the rest looks way too much like the Red Wings. The only players they would want are DBC, Ray, Larkin, Mo, Ed, and Talbot. The problem is Talbot is injured, and he's too old to get back Byram or Cozens.

I'll be happy to be wrong, but I don't see a trade with Buffalo happening.

for the record, as a fan, i wouldn't do anything this season except trade expiring contracts at the deadline. changing the direction of this season might save lalonde's job, and cost us one of schaefer/martone/hagens/misa, neither of which i am interested in doing. however, for the sake of argument, if i were yzerman and i were interested in making the playoffs, this is what i would do..

trade for pettersson. miller/pete situation seems like a mess. i'd offer debrincat + danielson + wallinder + lombardi + 2 1sts + holl

trade for power and peterka. buffalo needs a shakeup. i'd offer rasmussen + veleno + brandsegg-nygard + buchelnikov + augustine + buium + 2nd + husso

peterka - larkin - kane
berggren - pettersson - raymond
mazur - kasper - tarasenko
copp - compher - fischer
motte

edvinsson - seider
power - chiarot
johansson - petry

I dont see any trade saving Adam's lol it's the sabres we're talking about . Hes a dead man walking . I'd love to see yzerman swoop in but I doubt as well we'd make a deal

Well kasper compher gustafsson would be ready and mazur when hes rehabilitated. They can always use mazur and that 1st and chase a zegras or someone else with upside to help

If we'd make a move realistically would be byram more than cozens. Maybe throw a compher + or something to help them now but doubt it would be both

I'd trade debrincat in a heart beat for cozens but buffalo I'm sure is on the damn no trade

Unfortunately yzerman wont deal away bodies till close to the deadline and we'll end up with the 10th pick in the draft cause we hate ourselves

Like Pettersson but havent they been saying hes been meh in the playoffs?

Wouldnt give all that up . Definitely 1 1st if were giving that up and throw in 2nd or 3rd if a pick needs to be involved. Keep lombardi and send mazur

Ignoring cap issues, what do we have to give up for Pettersson apart from Larkin, Seider of Ed? Van isn't going to give him away for peanuts.

I don't think a deal with Pettersson can get done without Simon Edvinsson involved. If someone isn't willing to stomach that, then you got to move on. Infact you'll likely never trade for this type of player if you aren't comfortable moving a Edvinsson type player.(Young/good/earlier in career). No teams taking Wallinder/Cross Hannas for a star player.

Simon Edvinsson + Marco Kasper

for

Elias Pettersson.

Red wings would have to some send a player or something back for cap reason (Tarasenko?) This isn't a comfortable looking trade. Pettersson is very, very good and in the rebuild time frame; Signed.

Pettersson isn't even close to as bad as this forum suggests.... I actually like watching people pick apart Pettersson like he's not borderline elite. Selke votes while maintaining high offensive output, so young he can even still get better. Imagine if he liked who played with and where he was. Pettersson/Raymond could make a ridiculous line opposite of a Larkin line. Great, borderline elite, 1...2... punch.

I almost wish a move like this was made, jump start the Wings, and almost force Yzerman to make another move on the backend for some help during a playoff chase... Delusional maybe more than wishful thinking. o_O

That said I flip-flop every other minute on a trade idea like that, so, like I said before it's prolyl "fair", I just dont' like it, I don't wanna lose Edvinsson. I just can't shake the fantsay of Debrincat-Larkin-Kane with Pettersson/Raymond backing that line up. Defense would be in shambles this year for sure, but it already was anyways.

J.T. Miller might be a douche. He's pushed away Hovart and now Pettersson.:dunno: That's who'd I get rid of, but he seems like a Tocchet guy, and they both seem well... "not cool".

This is the year where I could say a significant enough mistep in our rebuild could occur. The worse thing we could do is not to do 'anything'. A choice need to be made and soon:

a) Do we think this is a year where we press forward and make a push for a Wildcard - then draft capital and prospects need to be shifted for, at minimum, a 2nd pairing defenseman with term, and something to spur 2nd line scoring.

OR

b) Veterans with no actual role and trade value need to be shipped off (Lyon, Kane, Tarasenko, Chiarot, Rasmussen, Veleno) and more prospects need to be cycled into the big club throughout the spring to give them experience and for the FO to see progress (Mazur, Wallinder, Cossa, Lombardi, Buium) and we fully commit to getting a Top 5 difference maker

I don't mind either path, just that we are decisive and maximize the value of it. One of these paths needs to be committed to - otherwise this feels truly like a wasted year

I would really think about Larkin for Pettersson. But would Vancouver?
I'd hope not. I'd claw my eyeballs out if we landed Pettersson at the expense of Larkin

For what Petterson brings, at that cap hit, is not optimal. I often watch and have watched the Canucks for some time. He's just not what people think he is, he's a soft and often invisible "star" player

If Kasper and Danielsson don't mature to take his spot as a 1st line C, he is younger and able to be a 1st line C. Thats the conundrum im having.
