I don't get blaming this disaster of a season on Lalonde. Wings have the 6th worst record in the league, and a bottom 5 roster in the league, maybe worse with this goaltending. This is exactly what you get when you have a couple nice pieces, terrible goaltending, and a ton of overpaid veterans who have nothing to play for.
Where did Yzerman go wrong with the rebuild?

When a team comes out flat, gets scored on early, the players look disinterested and sloppy, no consistency or confidence, getting hemmed in their own end for extended periods of time, incapable of getting the puck in deep and establishing a forecheck, and with no apparent system in place that appears to be working - that is 100% on the head coach.

I would actually say that is mostly on the players. The best coaches have the best players. The team is exactly where it should be in the standings with the roster provided.

What are the reasons for Kane and Tarasenko to play with heart? No coach can motivate these guys. And no coach in this world can turn Gustaffson or Hall into good hockey players. It is also not a coaching problem that Kasper is not what we all think he is.
A part of our roster don't want to play at a good level, a part cannot. Our results are well aligned with the roster.
2019 Stanley Cup Champions the St Louis Blues pretty much depicts what a change in coaching can do.
Now I do agree that this roster is far from a Cup contender - however I feel with a different approach, system, and a new voice behind the bench can have an impact for the better.

Danielson is not going to be a 1C. We're lucky if he's a 2C on a contending team.

we can be "also run" for the playoffs. but this is something I don't personally want. let the problems be visible.
Yeah - I’m at the point where this season is likely done…Just keep Lalonde, move some vets, bring up more kids from GR, and hope for the best at the draft.

I'm ready to see a move the helps the rebuild outside of adding picks. I'm not sure people realize how close the Red Wings are to rebuild 2.0. IF a couple prospects don't work out or get injured this train is going to go way off the tracks.

I'd say Danielsons ceiling if we are very lucky is 1C a la Brind'Amour type. But I do agree that he will most likely become a 2C.
Perhaps it's time we stop overvaluing our prospects, our picks and our front office...
Maybe then a more honest assessment of where we are today and what we need to do can be made...

My only hope is that the lack of activity from Yzerman means he isn't looking to just shake things up... if he's doing something it's going to be a nuclear option. We can hope in one hand, shiet in the other..

I'm unsure what anyone thinks Yzerman can do with this particular team. Firing the coach is obvious but that's easier said then done. I think they're going to have some difficulty attracting an established coach because they'd be waiting for more attractive situations. I fairly certain the next coach is being searched for at this point.
It took 2 months to hire Lalonde after Blashill didn't get his contract renewed. I'm guessing this will take similar or more as it's harder to do an extensive search midseason than at seasons end. Firing Lalonde is akin to shuffling the deck chairs on the Titanic at this point. It's highly doubtful it would make any significant difference to this season and if it did it would only worsen our draft pick. All we can hope for this season is our prospects develop in the minors, and frankly I'm no where near as optimistic about that as some.

Don’t think any franchise would fire somebody this close to the holidays. Maybe part ways with him in the new year

As long as the team gives consent to interview the coach, it's always okay. Happened in the middle of the playoffs, when they first started interviewing Lalonde. And I would bet that they started asking around from other places he coached and other people he knew, well before that.
Man, not even Xmas and the team is practically eliminated from playoff contention. I sure am glad we got all those vets to avoid a losing culture.

Shouldn't be difficult to attract a good coach. Original 6 franchise with a deep prospect pool and an established NHL GM. There are much worse jobs an unemployed coach could take.
