Where are McDavid and Draisaitl when it matters?

They probably would be better if they had had to spend a 10-15 game stretch to end the season without McDavid and Draisaitl. Having superstars like that makes it easy to hide. They'll carry you to victory, but if you lose vs a team that knows they just have to stop them to stop your whole team everyone's going to blame them anyway. Vs a tight, playoff-built team like the Jets you'll need secondary scoring to chip in effectively. There's simply no way to win in the playoffs without secondary scoring.

Oilers shouldn't have gotten rid of Matt Hendrix or Pat Maroon. They were very good solid players for them who played their role very well.

There’s all this talk about depth depth depth, guys like Chaisson etc. Those aren’t the ones I would be posted about. What is Yamamoto or Nuge doing for them. What does anyone realistically see either of these two doing in the postseason when not stapled to a Drai or McDavid

One thing to point out - Yamamoto has been one of our hardest working players so far and he's generated a good amount of chances. He's been snake-bitten so that hasn't translated to points, but that's been the story for our whole team lately.

Nuge though... his effort level has been pathetic.

The truth of the matter is.... all four North Division playoff teams would've had trouble qualifying for the playoffs if they played in any of the other three divisions. The quality of play really was AHL level for the most part.

Whoever comes out of the North will lose in 4 or 5 games to their opponent in the semifinals.

As much as I dislike them... the NY Rangers would've won the North division this year.

Do you watch the AHL?

Nuge really started to fade then he got hurt and hasn’t been the same since really. Start of the season he looked like he was about to make the entire league know who he was. I was down for it too.

I’m on HFBoArds not HFgrammar. Dance from the discussion all you want.
He isn't on the PP constantly or playing a team that is giving him repeated odd man rushes. You need any more reasons why he is overrated in the playoffs?

Crosby also had a much deeper team and didn't have to play 3/4 of every game for his team to have a chance. If the Oilers want to go deep with McRai they have to get some depth and get his minutes to a more reasonable rate.

Penguins did have a deeper team, but management continually goes for it by making key acquisitions at the trade deadline. This year Jeff Carter has made a tremendous difference on the team.

Oilers have McDavid and Draisaitl in their prime and they refuse to make these major trade deadline moves to improve the team for the post season. In one respect, I understand it. They feel like they are more than 1 or 2 key pieces from competing. In the other respect, they are wasting McDavid and Draisaitls prime.

Pittsburgh is just a better run organization that is willing to take chances to go the distance.

Tippet had a great second DRY line, then for some reason he decided to never use it, whether that was McDavid crying to play with better players or he thought he was smart and could find better combinations. He NEVER should of let that line go

I get that Crosby has had playoff success.

That said, the double standard with him and McDavid is absolutely hilarious. When Crosby goes games without registering a point everyone points to his defensive play and dominance on the ice. McDavid's been more dominant on both sides of the ice, generating tons of chances and playing well defensively.

Yeah except that was not at all your original point but sure.

He’s a flashy player than can’t play tight playoff hockey. He is built for All Star Games. Not heavy stingy hockey.

Wasn't that because of their center depth?

Imo the Oilers are similarly set up as the Pens in 08, with worst goaltending:

Crosby -> McD
Malkin -> Drai
J. Staal -> RNH
Gonchar -> Barrie
Letang -> Nurse
Hossa -> difference?

Even J.Staal had 28 pts, and he was the 7th scorer on the team. On the Oilers this year, the 7th scorer has 21 points.

Is it possible for any point producer to play heavy stingy hockey?

Feels like we're going back to early 2000s heavy sandpaper grit no skill hockey with some of these teams

So I'm supposed to believe that hockey is "Canada's sport" then watch the proclaimed best player in the world do absolutely nothing in 2 "playoff" games in front of zero fans? Canadian franchises have become and embarrassment and dead weight to this league.
