Where are McDavid and Draisaitl when it matters?

On one hand it’s only been two games and this thread is quintessential HF. On the other I like trolling Oilers fans so:

“Mom can we have Crosby and Malkin?”
“We have Crosby and Malkin at home”

Crosby and Malkin at home:

Usually they're on the score sheet cause both of them are over a PPG in the playoffs. They have been quiet in the recent TWO games though and great players being quiet for two games is something totally unheard of. Or at least that's what i read from my main source of analytic and reasonable hockey information, the hfboards.

This will look like gold if those two go OFF in the next couple games. IF. If they get swept or nearly swept by the peg tho... ugly shit.

The two will score points in this inevitable series they will lose but the point remains......can they win a cup? Their cap hits arent exactly inviting better d or secondary scorers.

So should mcdavid and Draisaitl both signed for maybe 7 mill each per year? Give you head a shake the way they both play there cap hits are low esp Draisaitl

1. People are giving way too much respect to Winnipeg in this thread. They play solid team defence, but it’s not like they’re known for smothering D like a team like Vegas.

2. McDavid and Draisaitl will pile up points at some point and honestly, I still think they have a good chance at winning this series.

Lol McDavid and Draisaitl's contracts aren't the problem.

The problem is Kassian/Neal/Russell/etc. Bottom tier players being payed like they're top 6 F or top 4 D.

Both Crosby and Malkin took hometown discounts when they signed with the Pens. They knew that they had to make some sacrifices if they wanted to have legit talent around them.

McDrai did not take any discount and knew that they would have to settle playing with pylons.

Getting stone walled by a Vezina winning goalie who seemingly found his form in the playoffs after a rough season.

I suggest you watch the games, McDavid is still skating through the D and making plays, Draisaitl does look off and has looked off for a while now, but he's still doing his business along the half boards down low in the O-Zone.

Do some people really think a player like McDavid cracks under pressure? He is dealing with high expectations since he was like 15 years old and has delivered almost in every aspect you can think of. But suddenly in the first round of the 2021 playoffs he 'chokes'? Does someone really think that? Give your head a shake. There may be other reasons for this performance or just bad luck, but cracking under pressure is certainly not it.

I also like the not-counting of last year's play-ins. 'Just remove games which don't fit into my narrative, so my narrative works'. There were times when 16 of 21 teams made the playoffs, yet no one is discrediting the first rounds during these times. Some of the points made in here are not even worth discussing honestly.

Sometimes I have to double-check if I am really on a hockey/sports board and not on the front page of a tabloid magazine.

This is totally relevant to this thread how?

The next game will be very interesting. If mcdavid goes offer again, deservedly or not, he’s going to be facing a hell of a lot of criticism. Similar to Joe T. They both need a big game 3, but especially McDavid

I expect a boatload of pps for Edmonton in the next couple of games, it would be embarrassing for the league to keep having these guys shut down. However Oilers fans will continue to insist that they are being screwed by the refs.

I don't think anyone would argue the Oilers depth forwards and wingers don't suck, but loading up those 2 on the top line only makes it worse.

You have the supposed 2 best players/centres in the world, they should be out there on their own lines stabilizing things.

Hellebuyck has been good but it’s not like he’s making highlight reel saves all night. His saves have been pretty routine. Edmonton just haven’t generated much offense.

Well yeah, this forum is the MENSA of the hockey world.

Does a goalie need to make 30 highlight reel saves a night to get credit for playing well?

It's always going to be true that the Oilers are screwed by refs as long as the "let them play" philosophy is employed. It's no different that when the Sedins complained about it way back. It's not about getting PPs. It's about being allowed to skate and use the puck without constant interference.

But honestly I dont see things changing from the refs. This is playoff hockey. It's up to the Oilers to adapt.
