The refs allow a gazillion penalties in the playoffs. This neutralizes a lot of talent. The game should be called the same. (Also, I am tired of seeing crosschecks to players heads not being penalties.)

I am not even an Oilers fan. “Let them play” equals a very dumbed down version of the game.

I get that Crosby has had playoff success.

That said, the double standard with him and McDavid is absolutely hilarious. When Crosby goes games without registering a point everyone points to his defensive play and dominance on the ice. McDavid's been more dominant on both sides of the ice, generating tons of chances and playing well defensively.
It’s really not a double standard for exactly the reason you stated. Crosby hasn’t just had playoff success, he’s had 3 Cup wins, 2 Smythes, and is challenging for top 5 all time in playoff points. Nobody doubts that Crosby can turn it up for the playoffs, because he’s continually shown that he can.

You’d be stupid to believe that McDavid won’t have playoff success in some form. But Crosby is proven, and McDavid isn’t, which is going to lead to some extra criticism.

The Caps were loaded offensively though, you couldn't just play the Caps and throw your entire defence at stopping Ovechkin. The Jets are playing a full on trap and basically their offence has gone to crap in the process too but they're eeking by with just enough.

If the Oilers actually had a 2nd line they would be up 2-0 in the series, but given they don't Maurice is 100% doing the right thing for Winnipeg, throwing everything at the McDavid line and turning the series into a full on grind.

Of course the other teams threw their best matchups vs. OV. Just like they did with Crosby.

Both produced regardless. That's what superstars do.

Not to mention letting them play would be calling the game by the books so that the skilled players could just play without all the illegal crap from slower, less skilled players obstructing them.

Every one laughing at edmonton were mcdavid and Draisaitl have been , yet no one wants to give credit to hellebuck who has stopped 70 out of 71 shots. That's insane on its own and it's pretty obvious who has won the first 2 games . 2nd game was a little closer in play but the first game was all edmonton despite the score which 2 empty netters change how ot looked..

It's helle 2 oilers 0

Cam he he continue to play at this pace

This is written by someone that probably hasn't watched the games. Hellebyuck wasn't tested in Game 1. Literally try to find a highlight reel save, because you wont. Oilers had 32 shots in game one that either missed the net or were blocked.
Game 2 Jets were even better with their sticks in the defensive end. Helle made a few good saves but the Jets were again excellent at suppressing the Oiler forwards. I literally can't remember even one shot coming from the slot, and the Oilers apparently don't know how to screen.
Honestly I'd give the edge to Smith so far through 2 games, but goaltending certainly isn't why the Jets are up 2-0.

It's an insult to Sid to even compare McDavid to him in the playoffs. McDavid will never match Sid's playoff career unless the Oil get a new GM and coach and magically transform the entire teams depth. Or if he gets traded later in his career while still in his prime.

The question is, will MacKinnon be as good as Crosby in the playoffs and the answer is quite compelling since Nate is still just 25 years old.

I think they're still lost somewhere in the regular season.

Someone needs to remind them it's the playoffs now.

who were these offensive depth players outside of Semin and Backstrom in 2008 and 2009?

When McDavid and Draisaitl dont get points

This is pretty incredible

(stats are)
record
GF
GA
Oilers were shutout

EDIT:

excuse the resolution. It's a photo a friend sent me lol

If McDavid and Drai had the ability to make their linemates that much better like Crosby and Malkin and MacKinnon etc, then they would almost never play together except on the PP. Unfortunately they don't have the ability and their linemates just aren't good enough.

RNH would be a third liner on a legit contender.
Kahun? He wouldn't even crack the roster on any other NHL team, yet he's McDavid's RW a lot of the times.:laugh::laugh:

It’s not just a problem with these two guys, it runs deeper. They have to play absurd minutes to give the Oilers a chance, does anybody really think any two players could do that over 4 playoff rounds? That would be exceedingly difficult.

I mean Crosby's also doing stuff like this:

What, being out of position on the play as the giant defensive liability that he is, only to last second scramble to cover for his own defensive blunder? Ovi would not have allowed that to even start. Yobanaya Cyka Blyat Jarry!

Seriously though, looking at the thread topic, how did Crosby get in here?
This is about Connor being a giant playoff zero in his 6th season.

Depth wins Stanley cups, over and over and over again.

Yeah depth and basically whoever has most of the best players (you don't usually win the cup with just a team full of depth players it takes that plus the top end talent to get it done), aka Chicago, Tampa, Pittsburgh, Detroit, Los Angeles, etc. etc.

I've watched bits of the first two games and I think you have to credit Maurice for this. They've kept McDavid and Draisaitl to the outside, and I don't think I've seen a situation where an odd-man rush can arise. They have their neutral zone set perfectly. They're sacrificing some offense for defense but these low scoring games favor Winnipeg.

It's a lot harder to score in the North. No defence whatsoever South of the border in the playoffs.
