Don't like it. The buyout only helps him.

It helps us too:

1) Gets him off the team. Even though he isn't playing, he can still be a distraction. Cut bait and move on.
2) Save 4.4 mil this year on the cap, at a cost of 900k on the cap next year. Net positive.

No one is trading for him, so that leaves the only other options as:

1) Keep him and play him
2) Keep him and don't play him

Neither of those are viable options. He will never play for the Rangers again, and the Rangers aren't going to make him sit out a year waiting for a trade that will never happen.

He’s a cancer, not just immature
Right?

There's lots of very good people that are immature. I know people like that. If they realized what they were doing, they wouldn't hurt a fly. They feel bad when you talk to them and wake them up.

This guy was talked to multiple times and never woke up.

The crazy thing is at least 5 teams contacted the Rangers about DeAngelo. We know Montreal was of the teams. DeAngelo and the Rangers would have mutually terminated the contract. The Habs would have signed Tony to a contract which would have made him whole. Maybe he didn't want to play in Montreal. He would rather become a free agent this summer. Maybe he wanted more money than Montreal was offering.

These teams want to experience the freak show.

I thought the issue was that Montreal wouldn't make him whole. Otherwise NYR would've just traded him there.

Made him whole meaning what he would get what he would have been owed for the rest of 2020-21 and then from a buy-out, not his salary for next season, he's not getting that from anyone.

It kinda sounds like the amount would have been paid over the rest of 2020-21 and then 2021-22, which isn't really making him whole, as he would be forgoing whatever he can get as a free agent for 2021-22 as well.

Wasn't something supposed to happen by now?
It doesn't hurt to expose him to Seattle. I doubt they take him, but if there's even a 5% chance why not use it? And if they don't take him, then buy him out.

Till July 27, makes sense to expose him to Seattle first.

I think there's a better chance of them signing him as a UFA and him then counting as our pick, than them selecting him at full cap value. But I think there's very little chance they take him in any case, so it's probably moot.

Would Suter be a good steady partner for him on the third pair for this season?

On which team? It won't be the Rangers.

If NYR buy him out and Seattle select him, he wont count as NYR pick as he will officially be a free agent and NYR lose his rights.

sorry, i do not believe that is accurate

1) if NYR had bought him out, and Seattle signed him during their exclusive shopping period,to sign UFA/RFA before submitting claim list, he WOULD count as SEA pick from NYR

2) per this article, claiming UFA's is an option for Seattle

You are misinterpreting. If they select someone like Brendan Smith while the Rangers still own his rights, he would count as the pick. If they buy-out DeAngelo first, they no longer own his rights. If Seattle then signs him, they still select someone else from the Rangers. Hold onto him through expansion draft. IF Seattle takes him (I know, not happening) then the benefit to the Rangers is the $383K is off their cap this year and the $838K is off for next year.

Kraken 2021 NHL Expansion Draft rules same as Golden Knights followed

The Kraken also have an exclusive window from July 18-21 to interview and potentially sign pending free agents who were left unprotected in the expansion draft. If they sign a player in that window it counts as their pick from that players' former team.

I'm assuming ADA would fall into that category if we bought him out prior to the expansion draft.

I know Seattle can select pending UFA's if they are left exposed (could be risky as they could become full UFA's at Free Agency).

However, NYR would be giving up ADA's rights if they buy him out. He will no longer be affiliated with NYR. This means he can sign with anyone at anytime and doesnt have to wait until the official NHL free agency.

As NYR would not be holding his rights anymore, he would not be counted as a Seattle pick at the E.D if they did indeed sign him so NYR would still lose someone.

Perfect Example:

The Wild just bought out Suter & Parise. Seattle (or anyone) can sign them right now if they wish but as the Wild dont own their rights anymore, the Wild will still need to submit a protection/exposed list as they will still lose a player during the E.D.

Some info from Uncle Larry but Im sure we already knew some of this.

Why Rangers aren't rushing Tony DeAngelo buyout

Sources have indicated that the Blueshirts are not expected to officially cut ties with the exiled defenseman until after the Seattle expansion draft is conducted on July 21. That would leave a six-day period until the first buyout window closes on July 27.

The buyout window opened on Friday, but the Rangers gain no advantage by getting on with the deed sooner rather than later. Indeed, keeping DeAngelo on the roster gives Drury flexibility prior to drafting his team’s protected list that must be submitted to the league on July 17.

With Jacob Trouba and Ryan Lindgren sure to be protected; Adam Fox, K’Andre Miller and Zac Jones exempt; and Libor Hajek currently a restricted free agent without a contract for next season, DeAngelo and Anthony Bitetto are the only Blueshirt defensemen to meet the exposure requirement.
Though the likelihood of a trade involving Bitetto before the protected list is due would seem slim indeed, Drury does maintain the option to do so by keeping DeAngelo on the roster

i admire your certainty, RE post-buyout claim-ability,
but I am not convinced it is accurate or justified

pre ED buyout seems to be a corner-case dependent on unclear factors

i imagine the online chatter re Suter/Parise may yield some clarity
... or further muddy the waters

it will all resolve in next ~10 days

but also re this comment: "Hold onto him through expansion draft.
IF Seattle takes him ... the benefit to the Rangers is the $383K is off their cap this year and the $838K is off for next year"
if not bought-out, and then ED -claimed, why would ADA have any Cap effect on NYR at all?
(oh wait, I see, you are comparing that outcome against the presumed buyout by NYR ...)
