When does Zibanejad sign, and for how much?

People talking about a 8 year deal should consider how few were on this team 8 years ago. I really think the risks outweigh the rewards with a 8 year deal. 4-5 years would be my ideal.

Very good point. That being said, an 8 year deal shouldn't be out of the question - we just need to make sure the contract is movable in those last three or four years.

Possibly. Tampa bought 6 UFA years. It's kind of crazy the AAV is only 5 mil, but no taxes and his numbers have been way down the last 2 years compared to what he did 3 years ago.

I still think the Huberdeau deal is a better comparison, but I'm sure the Rangers will try to use Johnson's contract to bring the price down.

If he was coming off his 2015 season numbers, would have been at least 6 million, but the last two seasons he came back to earth, and posted numbers closer to his 1st season. But still is a solid 2C 50 point two way player . Similar to Mika's numbers, but see Mika having a higher potential. But we shall see.

There are things we can not predict so we can't say it will be movable in those years. The NHL may be on Mars for all I know in 6 years. I stick with my desire for 5 year max. I basically feel the same way about all players not named McDavid.

18 years / 4.5 AAV (Actual Annal Vage) ? Front loaded? :handclap: (=room for decent 13th forward)

Under the old CBA we could have signed him to a 15-year deal with a 1m base salary in 12 years where he can develop an equipment allergy and be on LTIR

Palat just signed for 5 years at $5.3M. He's another guy with five years of service under his belt and similar production. I think the Zibanejad contract comes in right around there.

5.2177117 mill a year for 5 years. Done! :D

5 at $5.25 would be great for the player and org. He'll get paid.. give him cash up front... bonus load it so you can trade him later... he'll get time value of money on his side.

He's a smart kid, he'll be able to invest properly with the bonus money. Capitalize that way.

And in 5 years.. he'll cash out on a retirement deal while helping this team contend.

Yeah true, a good point @NickyFotiu - I`m listning to Rangers podcast while typing this, and (4.5-5 mil) - perhaps a 7 years contract and we should be happy about that.
Do you guys have any tips on Rangers related pods to subscribe to? Thanks.

Blueshirts Breakaway
Bantering the Blueshirts
BlueSeatsBlogscast
The Garden Faithful

The first two are solid and,I definitely recommend. BlueSeatBlogscast is okay/meh. I haven't gotten into Garden Faithful that much yet to give my impression.

Mikael Granlund had his breakout year in 16-17 at 24/25. Mika Zibanejad will be 24/25 this season. Granlund went from 44 to 61. Mika has gone from 46 to 51 to 37 points in 56 games which is 54 points pro-rated over 82 games.

Yeah I am surprised this is taking so long. Thought a deal would be done by now.

I don't have any qualms about Zibanejad taking over the 1c spot for the future, he should be able to at least replica (probably surpass) what Stepan did based on his speed and skill being better than Stepan as long as he stays healthy.

Hasn't Larry Brooks (don't **** on the guy please) said something about the Rangers having x amount of dollars to work with after the Zbad and Fast signings? IIRC, he mentioned $6.1M left of something like that.

I'd give Mika the Kreider contract and I'd give Fast 3 years at $1.8-2.1M

You were almost dead on with Fast.

I think we're looking at 5 years, 5.5 per with Zibanejad, after seeing what Palat got.

Mika can drive offense more than Palat, who is more of a good support player.

Palat has averaged .71 PPG in his career to Zibanejad's .56. Palat has been the more productive player, regardless of circumstance. That said, Zibanejad has age on his side but I'm not sure how much that matters.

Quality of line mates will definitely factor in. I mean I hope you're right, but I have a feeling we're looking at what I said.

That third year was crucial to me. He gives you a swiss army knife type of player for cheap that will either boom and stay cheap for the next three years or remain at his current level and give you an elite bottom 6 guy.

It's the perfect contract for a guy like Quickie who does all the little things right

Palat is also a fantasic defensive player. Dont see Zib getting over 5 mill on a 4-5 year deal. Guessing 4,8*4-5 years

Palat also has a 60 point season on his resume'. If anything Palat is Mika's price ceiling. I've watched a lot of Palat and think he is worth every penny. I do see Mika having a potential greater than say Tyler Johnson who got 5 million flat but 7 years.
