More UFA years you buy out the higher AVV gets. We did same with Stepan. I forget how many UFA years we bought out but it was a reason he got as much as he did.

I suppose I understand where you're coming from, but don't see why we'd want to pay an extra half a million a year just so we can have him play an extra season here when he's thirty years old.

Still in his prime at that point. Or at least back end of it. You are rewarding a player for not hitting the open market earlier where he could potentially cost lot more.

Zib 4,5mill for 4 years so he is an ufa when Smith, Staal, Hank and Shatty´s contract are done. Isnt worth the risk to give him 1+ mill more to sign him for 6+ years since he can easily not be more than a 50 point center.

Should be right around there. I'm hoping they keep it under $5M but I'm not holding my breath.
No way he is getting under 5 million. He is the teams number one center now and for the future. Bottom pairing defencemen are getting 4.5 million these days.
Mika has likely become one of my favorite players here. See a lot of potential in him, but if they can keep it under 5 million would be great.

I think Zib will get a similar deal as to what Brass got. 5 x 5. Zib's numbers are a little better in regular season than Brass's were. Zib has 134 points in 217 games in the last 3 years. Brass had 115 in 202 games in the 3 years prior to signing that deal.
Brass was .57 ppg. Zib was .62 ppg.
Zib has the edge in scoring, but he has 2 RFA years remaining, while Brass only had one. The cap has gone up a bit, so maybe Zib gets a bit more.
I think it will be 4 years / 5 mil AAV. If it ends up being 5 years, then the AAV will be a little higher, maybe 5.25 mil.

Right now, our 2C is Kevin Hayes so we're going to have to pay 1C price for Zib even if he hasn't quite proved his price yet. It's not going to be under $5M. We're really weak at the center position as an organization and Zib's agent will work it. I'd be happy with $5.5M or so. I don't see Zib regressing.

I think Mika gets the ck contract or thereabouts- 4 years and less than 5mm average.
Fast is 3 years with 2mm average.
I really hope they can trade Holden for a similarly priced 4th center. With Klein gone there is only 4 mm in space to fill in the 3 and 4 c position. I have a feeling they keep jt on the wing, sign/trade for the 3/4 c and take a 4c from Hartford like Nieves. Hrivik would've been really smart for the 4c, stupid they let him go .

I would prefer a 7-8 year deal on Zibs as well. And I'd be willing to eat a cap hit of up to 5.75 for that.
The thing with Fast is, it doesn't matter what he's worth to us as posters on this board, it matters what he's worth as an NHL RFA. Who are the comparables for him? If the comparables dictate he's worth $2M then that's what he's worth regardless of how we may value him. I love Fast but I can't see him getting $2.5M, no matter how hard he works or how versatile he is. He's still a 3rd/4th line tweener and that's a lot of money for him.

I give 5 years to Zib. I would avoid paying him massive money when he does break out in a big year next year or the year after. Maybe I'm just really high on him.
