When does the Yzerplan start getting criticized?

For Detroit fans every one of their prospects could turn into a superstar and can’t be judged for the 1st 8 years

Because wait maaaaaybe they develop into one….

How do you argue that the forward group you are building is going to be elite, with realistic reasonings?

You don’t have a single superstar forward, your 1C is at his mid prime and not a high end 1C and the chances of him suddenly turning into one are quite low. Kane& Tarasenko are old and past their prime

Raymond is the best bet and he’s so far away from getting into McDavid/Drai/Mackinnon/Kucherov etc tier

It looks like the Carolina group with less quality depth, no game breakers to win the big games
Shit happens man.

being 23rd overall is a lot different than 4th and 6th.

Poitras is a beauty. He is only 20 has 18 points in 40 games. Only 4 players from his draft year have scored more points. All four of them have played more games.
Johnston still isn't relevant when the topic of discussion is guys outside the 1st round. Especially when both Edvinsson and Cossa look like terrific picks in their own right.

Poitras is a nice 2nd rounder, but I'm pretty confident in saying he wouldn't be in the NHL if he was drafted by the Wings. The fact he's 5th in points mostly just says it's far too early to start looking at NHL impacts from the 2022 draft.
He done goofed passing on Mattias Maccelli
Whenever you are comparing the drafting of 31 teams combined vs. 1 team, that 1 team is always going to look outmatched.
Yes, Coyotes made a good pick with Maccelli. They also drafted Victor Söderström in the 1st round that same draft. Their top pick in 2020 was Mitchell Miller. I think I take Seider+Raymond over that. But apparently it's more important to make one good 2nd round picks than to hit on multiple 1sts.

This season.. was referring to his historic deployment last season . It was legendariky tough but he didn't have legendary results. I'm a fan. I blame Yzerman for not surrounding him with enough talent. This year seems like better deployment. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets himself into a Norris nod at some point.
fyi he has the same deployment this season. he's just better and is playing with edvinsson who is 10000x better than the rest of our D and any partner he's ever had before

All that can be seen from this list, is:
1. In general few teams gets the votes
2. All playoff teams gets the votes, except Detroit being the first non playoff team which I guess can be a testament to that they are doing something good even if it takes time.
3. When Detroit start getting into the playoffs they will get more votes.
4. Same probably happens with Ottawa and possibly Buffalo even though more turbulent management past.

Meaning they don't really vote for the best managements, they just vote by popular vote who is in the playoffs.

Still waiting,
ill bite. its a wash between raymond/stutzle given their recent production, and laf is quickly catching up to them both and could pass them esp given his very very good defensive play

i would take brock faber over sanderson at this stage as far as dmen go

Detroit isn't where they want to be, but honestly, given where they were in 2019 when Yzerman took over, anyone who expected a quick turnaround wasn't realistic unless you thought Veleno, Zadina, Chlorowski and co. were going to be good NHLers.

Going to when Yzerman took over, wings have missed the PO as long as SJ has and SJ is likely a bottom 3 team for this season and next most likely. Anaheim has missed PO 1 season more, and they are coming off a worst and 3rd worst finish in years 5/6 of missing PO. Chicago made the covid PO in 2020 and missed since. 4 straight for them and still another couple to maybe a few more seasons without PO on the horizon for them. Signed some vets to bridge the gap between now and their prospects.

Feels like most hated the signings from 2 off-seasons ago. Were they intended to turn the Wings around? Unlikely. Similar to Chicago, they were made to bridge the gap. It's the price to pay when bad teams try to sign veterans. Have to overpay to convince players to sign there. Guys with options with sign elsewhere most of the time unless the contract compensates for the losing. Unlike what happened for Yzerman in TB, they didn't land a Point, Cirelli, via the draft post round 1 and he hasn't made an altering trade like getting Cernak and Sergachev.
