I expect good analysis from these guys but this was a bunch of nonsense. Are they not allowed to criticize hockey canada or the head coach? And the call was borderline, hardly brutal. If they can't kill a penalty they don't deserve to move on anyway.

You’re not going to win Gold without having to kill a crucial penalty in an elimination game.

If Czechs got players from NHL like Pastrnak, Necas, Chytil etc they would also easily win, see how stupid your argument is?

Well, your argument is a lot more stupid seeing as the guys you mentioned are too old to be in the tournament.

Clearly he was referring to Junior aged players who are in the NHL.

In any event, Hockey Canada picked the team that they did and they lost.

Good for the Czechs.

Obvious issue is best players in the NHL. Add Bedard, Wright, Fantilli, Benson and Korchinski last year and they walk to gold. Add Bedard, Celebrini and Benson this year they walk to gold again.

They still should be able to win this tournament most years. They had to most talent even with the guys they left home… 0 structure
A U18 team led by Bedard and Fantilli were also eliminated in the QF, were they not? Celebrini got a U18 bronze and was a part of the U20 QF defeat last year, that's his international career. Benson never made any WJC team to start with.

That's always been the case though. Heck Crosby and McDavid won the art ross in years they were eligible for the wjc (2007, 2017), Canada still won gold and silver those years. They are just one of a handful of good teams at this point, so leaving off so much talent seems extra dumb.

This is getting annoying really annoying, only thing this canadian team was able to do was focusing on knees, when getting their butt kicked. And that TSN commentary what a bunch of losers, absolutely pathetic, not to mention that faux pas with czech flag.

You really should be looking forward about your team’s chances for Gold as opposed to obsessing about a team that is out of the tournament.

We’re out, you’re in. Enjoy.

You don’t get a medal for winning a quarterfinal.

Questionable 5 min major, a complete fluke goal, and then at the end....that game winner should never go in. One of the weakest goals you'll see. No doubt Canada underachieved but they had a couple things go against them, and you absolutely have to save that puck at the end.

Doesn’t change the fact it was their third loss of the tourney. It wasn’t a one-game issue. Or running into a hot opponent. It was a bad Canadian team.

u18 team missing Wright, Korchinski, Geekie, Savoie, Matychuk and more?

Celebrinis u18 team was missing Bedard, Danielson, Benson, Yager and more.

Celebrinis u20 team was missing Bedard, Fantilli, Wright, Benson, Korchinski, Molendyk.

Canada easily wins all these tournaments with their top guys available.

Are you seriously suggest this forward group doesn’t win gold?

Mckenna-Celebrini-Bedard
Catton-Ritchie-Benson
Nadeau-Yager-Martone
Cowan-Luchanko-Rehkopf
Beaudoin

Come on, Canada has by far the best u20 group of hockey players in the world right now… They would’ve had 0 competition, they would’ve blown out every single team. Bedard had 23 points at 17 what would he have done at 19? Celebrini is a point per game NHLer…

Favoritism in selection process is my guess. If I was more familiar with behind the scenes in junior hockey, it would be easy to identify.

If it were that easy upsets would never happen.

“What if?” is a waste of time anyway.

I agree that Canada is still developing plenty of good hockey players, despite the result at this tournament, but these kinds of absolute certainties are silly when it comes to sports.

Even the Soviets lost in 1980.

Canada lost to Switzerland in 2006.

Take the loss like a grown-up and move on.

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. The thing that makes me sad though is that Canada had a great goalie here and didn't win due to management issues.

This age group for Canada includes celebrini and Bedard. It is some of Canada's best work. This was just a series of poor decisions. The players and program are just fine.

If you have to include NHLers to make your case then you're admitting Canada is slipping. They used to be able to win these tournaments without them before.

This is what ex-Jets prospect had to say about Dave Cameron

Perhaps Canada should do a better job vetting coaches.
I don't understand why they don't hire reputable coaches. From what I've seen, Cameron hasn't won anything in men's hockey. He loaded the team in Vienna and still came up empty. One good year in junior hockey at age 65, and he gets the job. I mean, if the guy who is 65 doesn't have a single men's hockey trophy and didn't have a single even remotely successful stint in the NHL, how can he be a good coach worth hiring?

Are they that short on money?

I’ve been curious about this, McKenzie especially seems to be a bollard against criticism against Hockey Canada management and executives, hé probably has very close access and doesn’t want to lose it by being too critical

I still haven't gotten an answer to why Cameron was selected. I know there's politics involved, but he's not the only coach Hockey Canada likes. Did the better coaches decline or was he literally their first choice?

It’s pretty disappointing to be honest.

Plenty of hockey commentators who aren’t associated with TSN have no problems asking the obvious questions.

Did they pick the best & most talented players in the Canada? Did Canada ice the best team possible?

What do you think?

This thread was created to do exactly what it is doing.

Who couldn't see this coming?

I've got say, You don't seem to be any better at winning then some fans here are at losing.

I kind of think the vision wasn't so much "get good role players" but the opposite, get complete players to build a team of interchangable parts. That team would then roll 4 shuffled lines, optimized for the opponent/who was hot and win with its depth, as all 4 lines and the defense would constantly tilt the ice in Canada's direction.

It kind of worked to be honest, penalties murdered them. Also constantly shuffling lines without practices potentially. Still, Canada was my favorite going in for a reason.
