What's up with the Avalanche jerseys?

I love the blue pants with the home jersey. They look a little off with the white/road jersey. I think burgandy pants would look better than the blue with those. Has any team every done different pants for home and away kits?

The Blue helmet and pants really wash the whole uniform out, on TV at least. Especially with the grey striping, not being as "crisp" as bright white to separate things. It all just sorta bleeds together to my eyes visually. Not really sure why they decided to go that direction.

I prefer the black gear. But what I really don't get, is that if you want to get rid of all the black, then why keep black numbers and lettering on the away jersey? At least make them blue as well...

i guarantee you it was not a designers idea, it was someone who thougt it would be cool to replace black with blue as part of the Nordiques or maybe even Rockies commemoration, who, as we know, had primarily blue uniforms, but otherwise said person has no clue about aesthetics whatsoever. Thats why the whole thing is half-assed with blue pants clashing with red bottom of the jersey on the road uniform, when the old black version was totally fine, or why they kept black lettering, when they removed all the black otherwise.

The decision to go back to the old-style striping pattern on the jerseys was great, but the blue pants and helmet are a bit odd looking. Maybe I'll get used to them over time.

Thanks for posting this comparison. I was having trouble figuring out what was different, since they're almost identical.

They gray piping looks worse than the original white piping; the numbers were more stylized on the originals, and I think that looked better, too; and the Bigfoot logos on the shoulders were cooler, IMO, than the C, but otherwise very little is different. Maybe it's the blue pants throwing everyone? Those have actually grown on me. They certainly fit the color scheme better than the black pants did, and it actually gives the Avs a fairly unique look. If I didn't hate the franchise so much, I'd love them.

Well the 1974-75 Caps had Red pants with their white jersey and white pants with their red jersey.

They eventually settled on using just Blue pants with this look.

The Kings were another team in the 70's to use different pants for their home and away looks.

Wow, this was before my time, so I didn't know about these. If people think the Avs are rocking too much blue, I'd love to hear their reactions to those Kings photos.

Side note, I love those white pants from the Capitals. I'm not sure if I've ever seen white ones, berfore.

I couldn't be more jealous... a relevant jersey thread while my team steamrolls thru the 2nd round. :(

I wasnt sure how to feel about the blue helmet and pants when they first announced it, but after seeing it on the ice a few times and getting used to it I think it looks great. The uniform flows really nicely together now IMO
The blue equipment looks really nice with the home jerseys. The away jersey equipment should be maroon. Better balance.

If they can figure out the away uniforms (blue pants and gloves with one blue stripe on the socks and no blue on the jersey) they will be golden.

Love their home set. One of my favorites in the league.

For me it's the silver that makes the jersey look dull/dirty. Changed it to white and it looks sharper imo.
This looks great. I'm a big believer in trying not to overcomplicate jerseys and getting rid of the black and silver is a great step in that direction. Plus more white on dark jerseys almost always helps the dark color pop better visually

The overall aesthetic of the current jersey design is miles better than the uniprons from the Rbk era. I'm still upset that they went away from their original number font. Maybe that was too 90s for some people but it was still iconic. The new font is just bland. And for some reason they didn't update the captain/alternate captain lettering on the front of the jersey at the same time, so it stands out in a bad way.

I agree that they missed the mark with the blue pants/helmet this season. If they wanted to get away from black so badly they should have went with burgundy, which are built into the Reverse Retro kit anyway. I've always viewed their main color as burgundy, so their tendency to showcase blue on every uniform since the old burgundy thirds annoys me. The away kit is ghastly. The blue pants don't fit with the white jersey or away socks at all. It reminds me of playing as a kid and not being able to afford brand new equipment that matched my team's colors.

The problem with the Av's jerseys is the blue is too light ( should be darker like in the 90's) and the pants need to be black again and not that blue they wear this year.

Helmets and pants shouldn't match the yoke but it's ever so slowly growing on me.
