The greatest goal of the century? More like a fun goal celebration for photographers. As a goal probably not top 1000.
Yeah I wasn't alive at the time but growing up in Boston you see this everywhere. Winning a 4-0 sweep against a crappy recent expansion team isn't really the iconic moment the photos and statue would lead you to believe it was.

In terms of Bruins goals I remember, Horton in the ECF game 7 against Tampa comes to mind. Not the fanciest but a huge moment.

I've probably watched Byfield's goal against Columbus 30 times since last night, and still can't get over how special it is. Forget Goal of the Year, I feel like it could be right up there with some of the greatest goals of the century - but is that just recency bias talking?

So, it got me thinking - which goal (or goals) would you nominate for greatest of the 21st century? Regular season, playoffs, you name it; let's start compiling a list of some of the most dazzling, electrifying, disgusting, mind-bending, earth-shattering, obscene, unbelievable goals of the past 24 years (and maybe get some debate going while we're at it). Fire away!
Marchand had a better goal against LA a few years ago. Am I missing something?

Greatest 21st Century Goal: Sid Crosby's Golden Goal. No goal in any NHL game had anywhere close to its impact on the entire country.

Greatest All-Time Goal: All you have to say is "Paul Henderson". Unnecessary to elaborate. Imagine a nail-biting hockey finale combined with a climactic political thriller – the 1972 Summit Series was the Cold War fought with hockey sticks instead of nukes. Every newspaper had the results on the front page. School was stopped so kids (and teachers) could watch the afternoon games from Moscow. Hockey will never be taken so seriously again.

Tim Connolly's ECF goal vs Ottawa, to tie the game at 3:

Absolutely shatters Alfredsson's ankles and then one of the filthiest moves to beat Redden, straight into a backhand snipe. Just incredible skill and poise. Everything about this is just so smooth and effortless while just embarrassing his opponent.

There was the Olympics goal where Lemieux intentionally fanned on the pass to let it go through to his winger - I believe it was Yzerman - to score. That goal was probably the best.

But the Ovechkin one has been shown so many times. It's certainly more well known and would probably win in a poll. Great goal too.

Quoted For Truth

Those are the real picks

You can argue for second place and everything but since 2001, The Golden Goal is the most important goal, without a doubt

As far as relevancy and impact, no one comes close to Crosby's Golden Goal from 2010. It's without a doubt one of the biggest goals in hockey history.

As far as style, I guess Ovechkin's goal from '05. I still wonder if he knew what he was doing at that moment or if it was simply pure luck.
