In only one season with the Leafs, did Tavares produce like a top 5 cap hit in the NHL. Every other season combined he's less than a PPG. That's not value chief, I get you like him as a player however the numbers tell the story.I disagree completely, but I'm not going to waste my time trying to change the minds of people with horrible takes.
I love laying on a beach, lathering up with some lotion, ice cold pina colada and a good book:Learning lessons on the beach, baby!
Not reading all that - just simply here to reiterate that it's a waste of time discussing with people who have horrible, wrong takes.In only one season with the Leafs, did Tavares produce like a top 5 cap hit in the NHL. I'm happy for JT don't get me wrong, 1000+ games in the league, $100m+ in the bank, but the two series wins IN HIS ENTIRE CAREER speak volumes.

Like yours lol?Not reading all that - just simply here to reiterate that it's a waste of time discussing with people who have horrible, wrong takes.

Was paid more than he delivered.In only one season with the Leafs, did Tavares produce like a top 5 cap hit in the NHL.
That is exactly what I expect as well. I also wouldn't get within a mile of that deal but it is what it is.I think we should all temper expectations on what the next Tavares contract will be. Personally I wouldn’t sign him to this but I’m fully expecting a 5-7 million dollar deal. Kill me
So instead of an $11m black hole we'll have a $5-7m black hole...slow progress is still progressThat is exactly what I expect as well. I also wouldn't get within a mile of that deal but it is what it is.
He's a good 3rd liner. $3.5m max or you cut bait IMO.So instead of an $11m black hole we'll have a $5-7m black hole...slow progress is still progress![]()
I'd be okay with him on the 3rd line W, 2nd PP at $3.5m x 2 years. No more or longer than that, he's morphing into Jason Allison before our eyes.He's a good 3rd liner. $3.5m max or you cut bait IMO.
How many times did he finish top 10 in scoring prior to joining the Leafs?Like yours lol?
Tavares had 0 years he was a top 10 player in the league as a leaf
1 year he was borderline top 15 which was 2018-2019
Since then its been downhill and failure
He finished top 10 in ppg 3X as an isle in a low scoring league with crappy team matesHow many times did he finish top 10 in scoring prior to joining the Leafs?
354 points in his first 360 games with the Leafs. A point a game player, in the first 5 seasons of the deal.
You, me, and everyone else would 100% accepted that if we were told he would produce that the day he signed the deal.
He held up his end of the contract. It's the Leafs that failed to build a proper team around him, starting with removing Marner from his wing after his first season.
People bitch about Mitchy not being able to drive a line on his own at $10.9m but JT gets a pass for not driving a line at $11m...kHe finished top 10 in ppg 3X as an isle in a low scoring league with crappy team mates
2012 --> 9th
2014 --> 4th
2015 --> 5th
We gave him 77M making him a top 3 AAv at the time and he was expected to improve his play and production going from nelson, lee, eberle, strpme, okopso, moulson etc to matthews, marner, nylander, kadri, etc
354 pts in 360 games works out to 24th in league scoring from 2018-2019 to 2022-2023. He is 31st in ppg from that same period
No one thought the first 5 years of Tabares deal he would be a top 40-50 player at 11M. That is pure fantasy.
People were expecting a top 10ish player to at worst top 20 player. He completely failed to deliver.
Playoffs he has been even worse somehow

You ignored what I said to make a completely irrelevant and absurd comparisonHe finished top 10 in points twice prior to joining Toronto:
In his final 7 seasons on Long Island, he put up 500 points in 502 games (0.99 PPG).
- 2011-2012: 81 points in 82 GP
- 2014-2015: 86 points in 82 GP
In his first 5 seasons in Toronto, he put up 354 points in 360 games (0.98 PPG).
He came as advertised -everyone else would gladly have accepted that production when he first signed the deal.
Sounds like your issue is unfair/unreasonable expectations of what he is/was.
But we need to remember it was Shanahan and Dubas who gave him the contract with the NMC, and he did take a discount to sign here. Everyone knew what the final few years of the contract would look like.He sucks and we're stuck with him for another year
Good point. The answer is twice, one of them by only three points. And never since then, so barely twice in 15 seasons, and never as a Leaf.How many times did he finish top 10 in scoring prior to joining the Leafs?

He certainly produced here, up until the last year or so, very similar to how he produced before - but that never was the issue.He finished top 10 in points twice prior to joining Toronto:

He came as I said 9th, 4th, and 5th in ppg in 3 years with the isles
His league wide rank in pts and ppg from 2010 - 2018 was 9th in total pts and 13th in ppg (really 9th again in ppg as Panarin, Mcdavid, St Louis, and Kovalchuk come ahead in ppg despite playing 250 - 450 less games with St Louis and Kovachuk ppg only being so high due to retiring/leaving for KHL)
Tavares was a fringe top 10 pt producer on the islanders.
He was expected to improve as he entered his prime years and had a lot of young talented players.
His play fell off and he became a passenger who needs a winger to drive his offense
