What's going on with Alex Galchenyuk?

Nothing happened to him. He is just another in a very long line of players who didn't meet the lofty expectations all top picks get, fair or not. There are way too many variables to not expect there to be lots of big misses in a draft environment.

Weak draft year . Yakupov, Murray and Galchenyuk all rated at the top of the draft all failure when you consider where they were picked

He’s just not that good. Yeah he was top 3 but it was a bad draft. Plenty of examples of that throughout the years. Going top 3 doesn’t guarantee stardom

Substance abuse is still a rumor.

As someone said he can't dangle and skate at the same time. It's his ultimate flaw because dangling is his best skill but he just never really get anything out of it.

He's got a great shot and I really really wish someone would play him on his off side (RW) because all his goals seems to come from there. I bet if he played there he'd find his true place in the NHL. I remember seeing replays of his goals one year and they all came from the right side, but he never played there with the Habs. It pissed me off beyond belief.

He's not incredible defensively but I've seem worse. To me it's not something that would hold him back if he can produce offensively.

There was that whole "cops called to his apartment at 8AM where there were a whack of people present" incident...

But I'm sure they were just singing kumbaya and drinking green tea

Clearly something happened to him, in his last 3 seasons with the Habs he was 2nd or 3rd on his team in points, with the Yotes he was 3rd on his team in points. Since his age 20 season he's had between 19-30 goals all 5 years but the one he injured his knee and missed over 20 games as he would easily of had over 20 goals that year.

So 5 years of 19+ goals or on pace for that and then with the Pens he puts up 5 goals in 45 games? That's a 9 goal pace, now I can't say since I didn't watch him with Pitt or the Wild but 5 years of being 1 goal away from 20 and 3 away from 20 in an injury shortened season to being on a 9 goal pace. Maybe he just wasn't a fit there or whatever was going on but before this past season he had 127 goals in 490 which gives him an average of 21 goals per over 7 years.

I agree he clearly didn't meet the lofty expectations of a 3rd OA pick especially after his 30 goal 56 point season at age 21. It wouldn't have been foolish to think that maybe the Habs had a future 70 pt player on their hands or close to it but then the next year he has a major knee injury to an already not great or quick skater and quickly ends up in Julien's doghouse for his piss poor defensive play.

Things just didn't click in Pittsburgh. He was done in by bad luck and injuries before falling down the depth chart.

This was a whole situation, read about its specifics. It seemed to have more to do with his GF thinking he cheated on her and she went ballistic over it.

I think the long layoff will do wonders for his knee injuries.

I think he will bounce back and become a high-end C for Pittsburgh this year.

Pretty much this and it's not like the Sens are the ideal situation for him to turn it around.

At some point a duck is a duck.
I think the Sens are pretty much the ideal situation for him to turn it around. Give him a top 6 role and let him get some confidence back. Worst case he'd still pick up ~50 points and then he's trade bait at the deadline.

That's more like best case and also means some very good young prospect is playing in the bottom 6 or in the AHL (if that even happens this year)

Ottawa is a good place for him to prove himself, but I imagine his last resort will be the Seattle Kraken and he ends up in the KHL.

But I see him being a cockroach in the NHL. A team always gets rid of him but he keeps showing up somewhere else. To me, his biggest potential right now is topping Sillinger's record of most NHL teams played for.

Galchenyuk is going to be 35 one day and people are still going to be talking about his potential.

It's pretty amusing. The idea that Chucky is a low risk but really high upside reward guy is amusing. His upside is Duclair from last year. A guy who can put up some soft points but will have zero market at the trade deadline and is a placeholder for a horde of young guys the Sens have in the AHL many of whom will be knocking on the door this year and certainly by next.

Simply not an positive impact player at this point save for being a PP weapon but his even strength play is so bad teams are forced to hide him otherwise. Good teams are not going to be knocking on the door to trade picks for this guy at the deadline even if he stacks up a few points.
