What would you trade for Jack Eichel?

He's an elite player. So...go get him.

There is a chance that Eichel is going to be put on LTIR soon. If so, that would change my vote to 'definitely not' until we get a look at him once he's healthy again.

Yes, this definitely affects things.

The obvious answer would be Eichel for DeAngelo

:sarcasm:

oh hey Tony I know you’re probably reading this

To me the untouchables are Kakko, AL, Fox, Miller and Nils Lundkist has made this list this season. People don't realize how high his hockey IQ is and how that will probably help him translate fast into the NHL. He will be next to Miller for the next ten years the way Fox will be next to Lindgren.

Bettman apparently said today cap will remain flat for the next 4 years. Can't have ~$40MM tied up in Eichel, Kreider, Trouba, and Panarin for the next 5 years.
This certainly changes the equation a bit. Aside from Eichel, makes me wonder how bad everyone but the high-end players will be squeezed the next few years.

Right and your point is what has me getting more concerned about the long term sustainability of this rebuild. So many of the young guys are all going to want contracts at around the same time. It’s going to be next to impossible to make that happen. It will absolutely be impossible if Eichel comes aboard.

I think he's elite. The notion posted a few times on this thread that he's not a winner is absolutely absurd. Young center, you get his prime, nagging injuries but nothing long-term / devastating. Pass shoot score and FO improving each year.

Very few on the Rangers I wouldn't trade for him.

I’m extremely conflicted on this issue. They have a lot of money tied up in Panarin, Trouba, and Kreider, and are going to have to resign their RFA’s. There’s a part of me that thinks they should use their cap space to improve the overall depth of the team.

Then again young, Elite #1 Centers don’t come around everyday, and when they’re available you go get him.

With the recent notification from Bettman that the cap will more than likely be staying flat for the next 4 years, that will make quite a few teams shy away from adding a high ticket player like Eichel. Even teams with cap space now will be hesitant.

We absolutely need center depth. That doesn't mean we have to obtain the most expensive center. The cost in terms of assets and cap space will be prohibitive.

If we trade for Eichel, we likely can't re-sign Zib, so our center depth will be just as bad, if not worse depending on whom we trade for Eichel. If Strome (cap purposes) and Chytil are going the other way, we could be left with Eichel and Howden as our centers.

We need to fix the center position the same way we fixed everything else--through the draft and by trading for young players--not by spending big on the shiniest new toy.

I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would want to trade a ton of our best, low-cost assets to take on an additional $10 million contract in a world where we know the cap will be flat for at least four more years.

We still have to re-sign all of our own RFAs, and that will be difficult to do as is. I'm also not sold on the idea that Eichel could be worth more than a combination of Chytil, Kravstov, one of our top prospects like Lundqvist or Schneider and a first round pick. Chytil, Kravstov and Lundqvist all look like they could be game changing players on their own, and each of them is a dedicated two-way player at this stage in their careers. Hard, hard pass on Eichel.

We don't have to do anything? I don't understand why Rangers fans are following every minute of the Buffalo Sabres season.

Wait till the summer, do your due diligence. See what the price is.

We aren't going anywhere this season. There's no reason to make a panic move. Reset in the offseason and see where we're going.

I would only consider Eichel if it was for Mika or DeAngelo, I would not give any of the young future in a deal for him.

That seems like a ton for one player not named McDavid.

Eichel is a top 10 center in the world and is young. People saying he's a loser would have to say the same about McDavid, and McDavid has Draisaitl. Who is the best forward on Buffalo besides Eichel?

I don't want to lose Laf, Fox, Lundqvist, or Shesterkin.

It might be too much, but I always look at a potential trade from the other team's viewpoint. From what I've read so far, Buffalo fans say without Fox and/or Laf included it's a non-starter. To me, including them is a non-starter.

Miller figures to be good, but I doubt great. I'm far from sold on Kakko. Kravtsov is an unknown.

Edmontom would laugh hysterically at that offer for McDavid.
