Speculation: What Teams Would Claim Yakupov Off Waivers?

There has been no talk of him being put on waivers.

There has been talk of other players out performing him (Yak only played one preseason game and played well). Which means he could be traded.

Most Oiler fans have come to the conclusion that management or coaching doesn't like him so his spot will be given to a mixture of JP/Versteeg/Drai in the 2/3 RW spot.

I would rather have him at 3RW and send JP to the minors or have Versteeg on the left side.

Leafs have very little depth at RW and they'll have even less if they eventually decide to move Nylander back to center.

I think they would claim Yakupov and use a similar strategy to what they did with Corrado. Give him a only dozen games during the first half and spend a lot of time working on fixing him. Then give him a spot on the sheltered third line after the trade deadline.

I would say the Devils would take him, but I'm not sure how much of that Hall/Yakupov stuff is true. Regardless, the team could be really exciting to watch with him on it:

Hall - Henrique - Bennett
Boucher - Zajac - Palmieri
Cammalleri - Zacha - Yakupov
Kalinin - Fiddler - Smith-Pelley

I'd trade a 3rd for him right now if I knew he'd be on waivers. Islanders could use him and I wouldn't want to risk him not getting claimed that far.

I disagree that the isles could use him. He adds nothing to the top 6 scoring and simp!y is another body in a crowded bottom 6.

I would imagine somebody would bite.
I'm sure he'd get by the Leafs spot as they have wingers galore. Not sure about all the other teams winger depth so he might not get far.

I believe he's being outplayed on purpose. He wants to get the **** outta Edmonton! They know its not working and he knows its not working but they keep hoarding him.

Plenty of chatter on HF Oil right now after media guys in Edmonton yesterday apparently said they wouldn't be all that surprised if Yakupov is waived.

He is being outplayed in Edmonton's camp.

What teams out there would have time for him as a 2.5m experiment?

Many of us fans in Montreal would like to take a chance on Yakupov since he had good chemistry with Galchenyuk in Sarnia.

Would you as an Oiler fan trade Yakupov for either Alexei Emelin (two years left at 3.9 million per year) or David Desharnais (1 year left at 3.5 million)?

Yeah, no. Oilers forward depth is kicking his butt. I like Yak but I think he needs to go to a team with less depth so he can play on the PP

I'd bet all 29 teams would try to pick him up.

At 2.5 M I don't think some teams would. It's a cap world. Wild wouldn't, and they need forward talent...key word being talent. Someone would really have to believe in Yak in order to claim him.

I don't understand why you would have to waive him. I just refuse to believe he is untradable.

He'd get picked up quite quickly, especially by a team like Toronto or Buffalo.

I think he'll top out as a 20 goal, 40 point guy if things go right for him but he'll be playing in the KHL 2 years from now.

It's sad to see what has happened to him

I stand by what I said. This to me screams "I don't know what else to do so I'll stink up the joint and force their hand."

Unfortunately for him the crab is too strong in Edmonton. He's going nowhere!

NYR should pick him up. That would give them enough forwards to roll 7 lines!

How is it even possible the Oil cant find a trading partner here? Perfect reclamation project.

Not likely.
Toronto has an incredible amount of talented wingers that deserve a shot but won't get it due to numbers. Adding another similar player at 2.5 million would be silly.

It would be great if we could even just get a 3rd for him. I imagine Edmonton just wants to clear the cap/50 man roster space. A pick would be nice, especially with us losing our 2nd this year

You arent an Oilers fan. What do you care from their POV? We arent trading Yakupov let alone putting him on waivers.
