As much as I'd consider rolling the dice on him for the leafs, that cap hit... I could see him in van, cgy, or mtl, IF the oil waive him, that's a very big if..

as bad as he is, there are teams that will attempt a reclamation project on him (Canucks on Sven Baertchi, Bruins on Connoly, etc etc) , and see how he does on a different team.

I wouldn't complain if my team made a claim on him.

Good thing we could utterly care less what you offer or not.

Good, I hope you'll remember this if you ever make a thread in this section.

The Canucks have been looking for another Top-6 scorer, and Benning loves him some tools, and some reclamation projects/high picks who had some potential back when he scouted them the first time...Yakupov checks both boxes with fantastic speed and a great shot, and that 1st overall pedigree.

Canucks would be sitting behind only Toronto on the waiver priority order if the Oilers were to waive a player right now. Hard to say if Toronto would claim him or not with all the young players they're already trying to find space for in their lineup (Matthews, Nylander, Marner, etc., etc.). But it's hard to imagine Vancouver wouldn't at least take that flyer on him...

WillieD would probably moronically play Yakupov on LW though. Because derp.

Yeah he was fine but lots of Edmonton fans hated him for whatever reason.

That because he was playing above his head . He a good D man but he is not no number 1 and that where the Oilers had him playing . Previous management set players up to fail . Not sure it would taken to much brain power to sign a couple of has been vet D and had them play above their heads at least you don't ruin a kid or have the fans turn on him

I could of course see Edmonton walking away from Yak, but it seems inconceivable that they would not work out a trade rather than waiving him.

So, that "better than nothing trade" from the Pens would be something like Eric Fehr. 2 million dollar cap hit this year and next. Versatile, experienced. Some scoring, some size. Useful on special teams, fresh off a cup win.

Hard to imagine that no other team would offer better, but Fehr improves the Oilers of today and it surely makes sense for the Pens to try and see if Yak could turn things around on Malkin's wing. Having Gonchar in his ear for support should help too. As Malkin's line might well see mostly bottom six opposition this year, it should be a pretty ideal situation for Yak to excel and get confidence in.

And if THAT doesn't work, well... then he might be better off just getting out of this league.

Convince Iginla to come play his final year closer to home with McDavid
Yeah no! Iginla is 38, his home isn't anywhere near Edmonton and hasn't been for over half his life. If he plays another year after this it would be for a contender.

Edm shouldn't put Yaks on waiver right now when his value is at an all time low, nobody might pick him. They should wait a few months at least.

For what? To play him with McDavid (who you already have better partners for) and hope that the wiz kid can pull yak around by the jockstrap and bounce a few off of him into the net? As much as I dislike eberle, he is an infinitely better winger at this point compared to yak upon . Play your best players to win, I've watched a couple of preseason games for the oil, he's getting outplayed.

You're right, it sounds like a Benning move. But that explains the Canucks trajectory once he took over.

Not really. He was basically ruined by Dallas Eakins.

 A couple of years of poor coaching won't destroy a career. If Yak had an ounce of hockey sense he wouldn't be heading for bust territory.

Flames have a top line RW spot open for him... just not the cap space. Wideman for Yak trade would be great to see though (for us!)

If he can't flourish after a fresh start with a new team on a line with Johnny & Money, then he doesn't belong in the NHL.

Say hi to Snowden for us!

I doubt there isn't a single team that wants to get their hands on Yakupov.

For bottom feeder teams this is probably true. For teams with cap issues who already have more talented forwards than they can protect, Yak is worse than useless - he's a negative value.
