What team is having a better off-season than the New Jersey Devils?

wow, it's almost as if we can say the exact same thing since shero came in.

Whats changed? You're still New Jersey, you still have players not wanting to be there. Difference is you won a couple of lotteries so your future is a bit better than it otherwise would have been.

 surely that doesn't stop people from signing for the giants or yankees players living in new jersey.

my comment was from the perspective of how the hockey operations are run, since that's literally what you were referring to.

Fantastic actually.

oh, please do explain how making the guy you got for him captain then trading him away when you were in the shitter is fantastic. i'm all ears.

Florida had a pretty good off season.

Yea signing Bread Man would have been nice for them but they added one of the best goalies in the league and IMO a top tier goalie is what was holding them back. Sure its a lengthy contract that could get bad in years 4-7 but #1 goalies aren't easy to get and Bob had a good showing in the playoffs. Only let in 8 goals against Tampa's insane offence & played good against Boston.

Signed a good depth scorer in Connolly and shored up their defence with Stralman, who is also a solid vet to have around. Nevermind that a lot of their young guys had career years last year and Barkov gets better every game.

when you remind me that mcdonagh got you that many futures, that actually makes sense. cool.

see what happens when we act rationally and internalize each other's arguments?! more posters should do it more.

IMO the Bobrovsky signing is not a good one overall, but I will say Florida was the most successful team in terms of addressing their biggest need.

I have no problem overpaying for a position of need when the team is close. Looking at the Panthers roster, I could see them being a legit contender with real goaltending.

You're pretty confident that it's not a positive but then you say it might bite them in the ass. Which is it? It actually is a positive right now since we really don't know what we're getting with him yet. If he plays the the way he finished the season for the next 2 years, he's going to want a lot more for sure, but at least we know what we're paying for.
Simple, being a GM is about making educated guesses and trying to get guys signed to good deals. If you think Buchnevich is legit, you sign him long term to a slightly higher aav. I bet NY could've gotten him locked up to 5-6 years at 4.25-4.75

Leaf dreams:

Paying a first to get rid of Marleau
Re-aquiring Clarksson
Signing Ceci when you could have let him walk
Having Marner unsigned into aAugust

I know Leafs fans like to lower the bar until they can just step over it, but come on. Dumping Zaitsev was a good move. The Kapanen and Johnsson deals were solid. Barrie is good but doesn't fill a need and Kadri was the only skilled forward with any snarl. Leafs summer has been average at best.
Good to know a too 4 puck moving RHD doesn't fill a need. Can we fire dubas and hire you? We surely would be better off.

I doubt he was singing 5-6 years at that term. We don't know if Buchnevich is legit and I personally think he'll always been streaky. It's not simple.

I think it was a good signing. Yea its lengthy and like I said before, the last couple years will suck if he regresses but thats the market these days for top goalies. He wasn't going to take less term when guys like Price are on long term deals. The salary is reasonable for a goalie of his stature. He could also play well the entire length, Brodeur and Thomas are two players who played well in their mid-late 30's.

Nevermind that goalies of his level almost never it UFA.

What players do not want to be in NJ or have said anything bad about the team/area after leaving?

Lou was notoriously stingy in contract negotiations which led to players leaving. He was rarely proactive in contract negotiations and would allow players to play out their contracts and explore free agency. Hell, it almost cost us Elias until he reached out to Lou last minute to work something out.

Hasn't happened under Shero so far. Hall has made clear his desire to win and that he likes playing in NJ. Seems he's more concerned about the direction of the team than the area, but we'll see. I think he stays.

Good for the Rangers that they have it easier that they are a more desirable location, even though they haven't done jack shit with that so far.

You want me to explain how the guy who had 6 full seasons, and 2 half seasons, all full seasons with a +/- minus in double digits, (which doesn't mean too much, but it's fancy), and helped carry the back-end to conference finals and a Stanley cup appearance turned out fantastic for us? You may be all ears, but I'm not sure about the brain.

As for posters acting rationally, what did you expect with your initial post, your response, and then posting a photo of what your remember McDonagh for?

Leafs offseason has been a dream so far. Did everything HF said they couldn't

Lol, losing leadership fans on here can’t see cause they’re not in the room it goes a long way in Marleau and hainsey. They’ve given up six guys who have scored twenty goals or
More in the last year in bozak jvr konorov brown Marleau kadri not to mention a high offensive defensemen in Gardiner.

They lost the sandpaper they had in kadri as well as a guy who could score thirty goals in the fight setting and the best two way center they had.

They also got rid of a ton of depth defensemen, replaces a broken down ennis with a broken down spezza (probably a slight upgrade), Dubas continues to overpay his players and become terrible in negotiations, while Babcock has lost the trust of the fanbase and the Players.

Yeah borgman, Rosen, Zaitsev hainsey and Gardiner weren’t the best but it’s a lot of moves and changes to take time to adding Barrie and ceci.

Then there’s kerfoot. And the ongoing Marner thing.

Taking into account everything I’m not even sure this team is any better on paper or the ice, and I didn’t even get into throwing away some pucks and a legit back up in mciilehney and now even sparks.

So you saying the leafs off-season has been a dream is quuuuite the stretch my man.

Did you mean you dreamt about the leafs off season being better? Because that would make more sense

That contract will be moved in the 5th year, its designed that way. It was a position of need, and it solidifies that spot for well into the 20s, with Knight eventually taking over.

I think both NYR and NJ made great strides this summer. Should be an interesting rivalry over the years. Both young teams that should grow together and will be interesting to see where they both go.
