Kucherov
Palat
Johnson
Drouin
Sustr
Nesterov

All of them need to be resigned before this season or the next. No chance they will be able to resign all of them unless they trade someone like Filppula or Callahan which will be hard and they will probably have to add something significant for someone to take them, and they both have a NMC in their contract.
How many of them will they be able to resign do you guys think and what can they get for the ones they have to get rid of? Positive for them is that all of them are RFA`s

Just a guess, but I imagine Yzerman will negotiate contracts with them and make necessary moves to field the best possible team, given his resources. Again, just a guess.

They'll probs try to trade a 1st+ to Las Vegas to get them to take one of those atrocious contracts. They'll probs still have to trade one of their big forwards (Drouin, Kucherov, Johnson, Palat, Stamkos) but maybe they can make it work.

If you're talking about Callahan and Filpulla, they have NMC and have to be protected (unless they waive it).

Back to the drawing board.

and not extending Bishop could save them 4.5M by getting a 1.5M backup, and depending on how their season looks this year that could be Bishop moved at the deadline for futures or after a run his rights for a late pick.

They could see Vegas take Killorn for another 4.5M that would be replaced by an entry level player.

Really it just seems they have a bad crunch coming through 2017-18 if they cant get Filppula to waive and give up a decent pick to move him. So if they have to they might sacrifice one of their bigger money LD and run 1 season with a hole in their back end they feel they can replace when Filppula's contract runs out.

Realistically, you see a few things happen.

1) Flip is bought out at the end of the year. With only one year left on his contract, this is a very easy buyout to swallow, without leaving them in the hole. Ala Matt Carle's buyout. Should save something like 2-3 million.

2) Jason Garrison is either traded or claimed by Las Vegas. Not a move Tampa wants to make, but it is a necessary move. Hopefully by the end of the year players like Koekkoek or Nesterov should be ready to move up into his minutes with a Blujus or Witko ready to take the 7th man role.

3) One of the Triplets are traded. Palat is damn near untouchable in this system right now, so I think he gets a 5-6 year contract. Kuch will get resigned, likely to around 5-6 mil for 5-7 years. Big money, but money that needs to be spent. Johnson is likely traded. He still holds value to a lot of teams, but could be replaceable by the end of the year if he has another injury filled year. I don't think he gets a Kings ransom, but you likely get decent value out of him.

4) Trade on of Bishop or Vasiy. If Bishop has another Vezina caliber year, I don't see how Tampa can let him walk. If he is even merely good, like he was two years ago, he will be traded or left open for Vegas and the reins will be given to Vasiy.

5) Drouin gets a bridge deal (3-4 mil). Sustr gets a something like 2-3 mil. Nesterov gets traded or goes back to the KHL.

And sorry, Callahan likely plays out his contract with then Bolts. He's in that odd spot where he is worth more to have on the ice than to pay an empty chair. I know last year he didn't show up on the scoresheet like at all, but there were many, many nights where he outplayed 90% of the Bolts on the ice (Sans Bish) but never cashed in. Unlike Flip who never only showed up to like 10% of the games and didn't look great even when he did.

I dunno but that Alex killorn contract seems very illogical especially with all these other guys due for pretty big pay days

Resigning Stamkos is what screwed us. Personally I think our best approach is to package a first with Filppula to clear him off the books entirely, then we can afford to buy out Callahan. It's a nasty buyout but it saves us a lot of money in the near future and the year it gets really bad Carle will be off the books to help ease the pain (obviously if we could somehow move Callahan that would be preferable but I wouldn't count on it.)

Bishop will sadly be allowed to walk and Garrison will be traded or potentially claimed by Vegas; if we have to move a forward it will be one of Killorn, Palat, or Johnson unless Drouin becomes a headache again. Speaking of Drouin if he stays healthy and has the kind of year he's capable of having he'll be looking more at $6M than $3-4M, and Yzerman would give precious body parts to sign Kuch for under $6M.

I dont think there is any chance of that happening to be honest

I love how this is still a thing. People are still underestimating Yzerman? How about this, just watch it all pan out.

Remember when we wouldn't have enough to keep Hedman? Lol.

There is ZERO chance the number he signs for starts with a 5. 6X6 or 7X7.

All they gotta do is get Kuch on a bridge deal for those contracts to expire.

Because he signed a really good deal, same with Stammer. Kuch should get north of 7M AAV, which means one of those guys at least is gone. I assume a few of them will be gone.

That was a genuine hockey response , you know we need to get more pucks on net and score more goals then we let in.

My two cents....

TB has 9 forwards of which they can only protect 7. They may move 1 of these forwards for exempt players or draft picks. One likely would be Filppula sent off to another team or to Vegas. His cap space likely can cover raises for the forwards who are resigned in 2017.

Callhan's cap space when it ends likely can be used for Kucherov or Drouin.

Filppula could be sent to Vegas with other prospects/picks.

In 2017 they will have about $18M+ cap raise for:

$5M to sign 2016 RFAs/roster spots filled
unload filppula (-$5M)
Johnson ($6)
Palat ($5M)

backup goalie ($1M)
2 younger Dmen (combined $3M)

total added salary is $15M

Mtl would be happy to help the Bolts and take Killorn for a prospect and a pick.

Andrighetto and a 2nd rounder should do it.
