What should LA do at the deadline?

Sell UFAs we will not be keeping. No reason not to keep acquiring assets (picks) as we are still a few years from our window.
Good call..good time to get as much as you can for AA - who easily could entice some team with his occasional highlight reel goals.

Deadline market is usually overpriced pieces for desperate playoff bound teams to overpay to make a run. The Kings are so balanced on their line contribution, that losing 1 guy is not going to destroy the team. There are a lot of highly capable players in Ontario if needed. Left handed 2nd pair is a need tho, and if something is available that isnt overpriced, its worth doing - not really a deadline deal, just a trade. The deadline will pass before we know anything about Edler - so maybe you assume he doesnt make it back and get back to where he was.
Well said. Only kind of deadline deals that I see working are younger players with term. A Jeff Carter kind of deal, though that was lopsided deal. I like Chychrun, but Arizona is asking a lot.

FWIW, Blake said Edler is projected to be back by the end of March. This was at the State of the franchise event

Thanks for the info re SOTF .. depending on Edler coming back and being effective is a bit of risk.. but Maata isnt doing any worse than he did earlier in the year, so we can live with Maata this year I guess. Its his decisions on breakouts and esp in the O-zone when we have possession. His feel for passing and when to pinch are usually way off.

I understand the Kings are in a battle for a playoff spot, but I don't want to see Blake do anything here unless it's a hockey trade for the future.

Let the players who got the Kings this far this season finish the job. Even if the Kings fails to make the playoffs, there are some younger players who are getting some valuable experience in games that mean something.

Do nothing. More importantly, what should we do this offseason. Resign Brown, Maata, Kempe. Continue to develop our prospects. Look at bringing up Vilardi next season and park him next to Kopitar along with Iafallo. Keep Clarke, Grans, Faber, Turcotte down. That's about it. Stick with the system. Trust the process. GKG.

I dunno man, I think we should be trading Kempe, Iafallo, Roy, they are at their peak now, you will never get a better chance to trade them for good solid draft picks and prospects

Did you really advocate to resign Brown, Maatta?

Can’t resign Brown or Maata. Gives the Kings some slots to bring players up. Clarke is either in OHL or LA. If the resign Maata, then Clarke is back in OHL. If he’s good enough to stay in LA, then there should be a potential spot for him. Villardi should replace Brown in lineup, unless Blake can trades him this off-season, which I hope doesn’t happen.

The fan in me wants a blockbuster how realistically AA and a 3rd to the islanders for Clutterbuck seem more realistic. Peps lizzotte clutterbuck as a line

Actually that's an interesting thought. A little of a toughie because that line is working, and Blake seems to want to exercise caution and patience, but the 'deadline addition' could just be Kaliyev to a higher line or Vilardi coming up while adding yet another dickhead to line '4'.

Blake isn't going to make a trade for a defenseman at the deadline, here are his thoughts on Edler.

“Alex Edler, we project back by the end of next month,” Blake said. “When we get him back in the lineup, it’ll be nice to get him back, it will be like a deadline addition for us on defense.”

It is much more likely that we add a scoring winger with term at the tdl. And even that is not a given. It would take the right deal coming along.

If they trade for a forward who comes out of the lineup you think? Grundstrom is looking good and they arent scratching Brown.

Athanasiou, most likely. He's the one who's been most screwed by injury and gaps of playing from training camp.
Hes already out of the lineup as the 13th forward. Who comes out of the starting lineup? Grundstrom looks good in his spot and they wont scratch Brown.

I get the feeling that any "big" trade will happen in this offseason. Thinking they ride this roster (with the addition of Edler) as far as it can go. Blake has yet to make any knee-jerk moves and I doubt he starts now. Team is playing well and the chemistry seems excellent. If they can get a mid round pick for AA, they should do it. Other than that, they should be fine.
This offseason could be active though.

Everything Blake has given us indicates the standard we will pick up something dirt cheap if available, but the team will mainly stand pat unless something long term that makes sense falls in their lap which almost never happens and basically means nothing :P Honestly, that all sounds fine to me.
