What should LA do at the deadline?

The idea of trading for Garland has been growing on me. I feel like if Walker were healthy all year he would’ve been a key piece going back, but now I’m guessing it would likely be Durzi or Spence. It would be painful, but Garland is basically Lizotte’s lionhearted twin, but with a legitimate scoring touch. I think Vancouver wants players who can fit into their window with Hughes and Pettersson, and they fit that bill.

It would be unpopular in the room, but a crazier idea would be more of a hockey trade with Iafallo going back along with a pick or prospect. I’m not sure they need forwards, but we would need to clear about $4.5M in cap to bring him in.

Re Kempe - is he going to want William Karlsson money (or close to it)? 5.9 for 8 years? Karlsson had an outlier year in 2017-18 - 78 pts, w 44 goals.. hasnt come close since. Thats my concern they will end up overpaying based on an outlier - not his new norm. And if some other team wants to pay for Kempe as he looks this year - by all means take the money. They shouldnt want to pencil in 6m cap hit for 6 to 8 years for someone producing probably 40pts 20 goals a year. He's been the best player for most of the year, but im not convinced he can keep up this production long term. I guess the question is, did he turn the corner this year, or is it contract year motivation / outlier production.

There's no way Kempe gets that much IMO. He's probably in the $4M range.

I'm about to go for a hike but expect Paul Stastny and Brendon Dillion to be traded to LA for Walker and Grundstrom.

How do I know this? I don't.

Goodbye.

oh good, we're starting the 'responding to legitimate points with condescending smiley faces while missing the point' early

funny thing is he's responding to someone who creates much more thoughtful content out of much less access

f***ing done with these smarmy turds

Edit: what an absolute f***ing douche, doubled down on the 'i have access and you're just a fan' angle

I'm usually a 'more connection is better than less' guy but I'd really appreciate the Kings cutting ties with people who treat other social media fans like this. There's a way to defend your opinion that isn't so angry and defensive.

McCann is playing center, so Kempe should get slightly less.

Also, Kempe's S% is 14.9% against a career average of 11.3%. Meaning his goal scoring rate doesn't look like a huge outlier.

When Karlssson scored 44 goals, his S% was 23.4% against a career average of 13.2%, meaning his scoring clearly wasn't sustainable.

The Russ vs DB twitter spat was the Saturday morning entertainment I didn't know I needed.

What would be your upper limit (aav and length) if you are RB in negotiations?

if the kings acquire garland theyre bordering on midget team.

I LOVE how he plays--pissed off Lizotte--I'm just wondering aloud how many smaller players is too many.

Sure we have Byfield, but he doesn't play like a giant. Same with Kopitar. Helenius is meaner but far away and no sure thing. We'd need a Crouse or something too, right now it's all waterbugs of different sizes and Pepe.

I think Blake and co. have found and exploited a bit of a market inefficiency--smaller players--but there's a line somewhere.

I think it depends on how he plays out the rest of the season.

When the Kings choose to make the offer could have an impact.

Blake could probably sign him right now for 5x5M. But if he waits, Kempe's production could decline and he would be cheaper. On the other hand, if Kempe gets hot again, and Blake waits, he could get more expensive.

I'd say my absolute limit is 5x5.M, but ideally I'd like 5x4.5M

I usually cut them some slack because they get bombarded with every opinion out there. I do think it’s dangerous to talk down to potential clients tho. I hated Hovens comments on Kings fans getting together to pick a whipping boy for the year. Not like people don’t actually watch games and think critically for themselves. Not always mob mentality.

Tell me about it...

So, here's my brief history of Kings fandom...I got into hockey and the Kings in the 93-94 season (yeah, just missing the epic SCF run)...I quickly became hooked, addicted, you name it. From there on out, all I dreamed about was to see the Kings in a playoff game...so do the math, only took like 5 years to see one...only for them to get swept in 1st round (98). Then, they miss the next season, make it back in 00, and get swept again! LOL, took 6-7 years to witness my first Kings playoff win. That was a rough ride, but I learned to appreciate when things are good...like this season.
Your experience mirrors mine almost exactly. I got into hockey in the late summer of 1993. I missed the Kings SC run entirely.

93-94 was a great time to become a hockey fan, but a terrible time to become a Kings fan.

Hockey was really blowing up in SoCal during that time period. The RHI was a thing. Everybody was playing roller hockey. It was so much fun.

I also dreamed about the Kings being in the playoffs. Imaging what it would be like.

I've always hoped that hockey would become as popular as it was during the early/mid 1990's again. But that hasn't happened, and probably never will.
