What kind of person buys Mitch Marner merch? He is the face of Dubas nuhockey. Wimpy play and figure skating type edge work.

Never for a second would I have ever been caught dead buying Marner anything. The only real option on the team is a Matthews jersey. After last season Nylander merch is not so bad either.
Many that buy his stuff dont know who Dubas is, but go to a game and you’ll see 16 jerseys everywhere - the weirdest thing about hockey is the fans wearing a team jersey.

Somehow forgot about Tavares lol. At the time it was a no brainer, I think giving out big $ and term to players that aren't elite like the JTS/Panarins/Petroangelos of the world is really risky.

Panarin is the 4th leading scorer in the league since he signed (ahead of Matthews and Marner). That’s elite.

Pietrangelo lol, all he has done is gold at the world juniors, best dman at the olympics, 2 stanley cups with 2 different teams. I'd kind of think more along the lines of Darnell Nurse or Seth Jones.

I think the new coach will make a big difference. Almost 100% of the posters here think the coach makes no difference, which I find very interesting. Especially after all the fire Keele posts I’ve read..
Even the greatest mechanic can’t fix squat if he doesn’t have the right tools, right now the Leafs have too many of the same tools in their toolbox, switch a couple of screwdrivers for a hammer and a pry bar and now you just made said mechanic’s job infinitely easier………

They all changed their opinion because he had a good speech leaving... most posters are just emotional and not much else, opinions change based on the emotions they have towards a person, not logic.

I firmly think a new coach can make a difference. The question becomes how long and how much turmoil will he have to go thru to get these guys back in line after 5 years of the players basically doing what ever they want and running the show. As evidenced by every time he was a little rough on them in an interview he had to walk it back the next day in the media.

Keefe walked back one quote. We need to stop generalizing. A few columnists have also come out and said the public perception of keefe being a soft coach was dead wrong. He was hard on the guys, particularly Nylander because he’s coached Nylander since Nylander was 19 and he knew how to push Nylander.

Keefe called guys and the team out quite frequently this season. He walked it back once, no need to try and make it seem like he was scared of the guys. He wasn’t.

Yeah, I got the sense that Keefe wasn't a soft coach at all. It was simply that his time had run out here.

There are things that a new coach can do - put speedy players together, put someone who will screen the goalie on the PP, teach proper zone entries and exits, etc.

There are things that a new coach can't do - perform testicular surgery, turn a muffin into a laser, make JT as fast as Willy, etc.

(Well, the last is possible - just add 20 kilo weights to Willy's ankles.)

I misspoke, or typed.. I meant those following players are elite.. those are the type of players in FA you give big money too..
I think the confusion stems from your having included JT with the likes of Panarin and Pietrangelo.

They play their part. But there's a bigger reason teams like the Bruins are consistently successful. Its the culture. And that takes some years to develop starting with all mgmt and the right players who buy in and set the example. So that when kids are drafted they know that right from the beginning this is whats expected. You are accountable not only to the coach etc but your teammates too.

Imagine thinking Marleau/Jumbo and Spezza were the good pros to show Mitch/Willy and Matty what it took to be winners?

Not for nothing, but the Bruins have been "consistently successful" in the exact same way the Leafs have been consistently successful - the regular season. Neither franchise is the gold standard.

I would think are likely to be moved, they're not bad players but for various reasons, I could see all 5 changing teams.
