I saw this as a thread on the hockey subreddit and it generated some good responses.

I’ll start (Buffalo)

Most Homer: Rasmus Dahlin already broke out in the second half of last year, and will be a consensus top 5 defenseman by the end of the year.

Least Homer: Not utilizing our cap space this offseason will end up hurting us both in the short and long term, most fans realize this but just make excuses to make it seem like our owners aren’t being cheap.

Homer: While reffing sucks league-wide, I feel like there’s a legit claim to be made that refs are extra poor towards a team outta the playoffs. Teams like Buffalo that don’t matter towards much most years- a playoff team might present reasons why a ref shouldn’t make a call in a tight game, whereas a team way out of it can’t really say anything. As a result you’ll see more bad calls against the bottom of the league teams.

Least homer: The fact that I now just identify with being in the bottom of the league is, objectively, sad and awful.

NYR

Most homer:

-K’Andre Miller will be a Norris candidate soon

-Trouba’s contract is good

-There isn’t a better team in the East right now than NYR

Least homer:

-I don’t know if this counts but most Ranger fans think we should trade one of Kreider or Trouba (or both) to afford extending Lafreniere and Miller but I think we should trade Panarin instead to make that cap space.

-Brennan Othmann will bust. Don’t like anything about him, easily my least favorite NYR draft pick/prospect ever

-The Trocheck and Goodrow contracts will screw us long term although I like having both players right now. Over 10 million dollars for the two of them isn’t the way to build a team that has a ton of pending big contracts needed to be handed out. I don’t see either finishing their contract with us. I like them both here for the next 2-3 years only. After that we need to get rid of them.

-Ideally we win a cup in the next 3 years with our current core, then move on from Panarin/Trocheck/Goodrow (23 million) to afford keeping K’Andre, Lafreniere, Lindgren, Schneider, Igor, etc. long term. Build around them plus our other younger guys and go for another cup

I split allegiances so:

Vegas

Most: Logan Thompsons is going to be a legit stud starter, and with him *almost* singlehandedly dragging Vegas to the playoffs, I feel slightly vindicated saying he should be considered at least a top 15 goaltending prospect and being told he wasn't good enough.

I could be striking out on this opinion as LT could just as easily be a flash in the pan.

Least homer: I've got a few actually. 1. I agree that Vegas has played the win-now aggressive market action really stupidly. Directionless other than having a direction of (best player available in the market) and while I don't think it's
stupid to trade good players for cap space out of necessity, I think it's stupid that we have to do it every year with beloved players. We've done that and have very mid long shot prospects to substantiate the depth. 2. The VGK f***ed up Cody Glass' development badly and I feel like the only VGK fan who feels this way. 3. Pietrangelo is not a top 10 or 15 defenseman anymore yet many still rank him as such. I'd say even barely edging into top 20 would be a stretch.

Anaheim:

Most: Mason McTavish should be a top 3-5 prospect among the current pool leaguewide. His physical tools and game sense indicated a future superstar in his brief stint in Anaheim and nothing he showed since then has changed my opinion on that.

Least: I tracked John Gibson's entire career from D-1, through a stellar WJC, to a great rookie year, to his first Vezina like stretch, to the present. He was my favorite player to track. But I've really soured on him and I think Anaheim should have traded him if they were going balls out on a rebuild. People now think he's overrated and he's not that good. I disagree. He's overrated but he's as good as people say he is. He just doesn't want to perform to his potential because he's been a pissy child that just gives up on games when things go sour. He'll start games trying but all it can take is one defensive breakdown and he checks out of games.

Most Homer: We still have a very strong forward core and the defense core is good enough to work well within an actual defensive system. We finally have a coach that can bring in an actual NHL defensive system. Last season will show that it was our coaching that was holding us back.

Least Homer: LOL "most homer" me must be smoking crack!

Most homer: Knies will be a 30 goal scoring top 6 LW in the NHL within 2 years and a near PPG power forward during his prime

Least homer: We do not need to blow up the core group of this team to be successful. They played a very good series last year, just an unfortunate outcome.

My least homer take is that Stamkos really isn't a great, or even good playoff performer and other players on Tampa are saving him from being labeled as an all time choker.

Most Homer: Lundell could be a PPG+ player with solid defensive ability.

Least Homer: Barkov isn't that great defensively.

Most Homer: Caufield scores 40 this season and Suzuki hits 90 points and we yet still get Bedard or Fantilli

Least Homer: It's going to take at least until 2025-26 for Montreal to be anywhere near competing for a Playoff spot again

Detroit

Most Homer:
Lucas Raymond becomes another Mitch Marner and 100 point player, Kasper becomes a possession beast 1C, and the team wins a cup within 6-7 years.

Least Homer:
Dylan Larkin is not a 1C to win a cup with, and Kasper has to be absolute best case scenario 1C to be the guy to lead the team, which is obviously unlikely since he's still 18. This team may shape up to be like Nashville 2017 and get close but never win the cup without an elite 1C. However, they look like they might suck enough to potentially draft a star 1C in 2023.

Florida

Most Homer:
Ekblad will win the Norris this year.
Barkov will win the Lady Byng.
Bobrovsky will be a top 5 Vezina finalist.
Lundell will be a top 5 Selke finalist.

Least Homer:
They have a much smaller window now with all the roster losses, especially since they don't have another 1st until 2026 and lack a good prospect pipeline. IMO, this past season was their biggest chance and if they couldn't get past Tampa this year with all that firepower and the Leafs taking Tampa to the brink, then I'm not really optimistic they're cup bound anytime soon.

Homer: Great idea to keep the band together and double-down on older veterans like Petry for one or two more runs at one last championship.

Non-Homer: Older guys aren't going to be able to keep handling the full load of carrying the team and will breakdown. And there's no one coming up to take up the slack.

Honestly I'm buying both of these

Homer--Gabe Vilardi is getting 60 points on someone's wing this year, hopefully it's in LA.

Least Homer--Blake has no f***ing clue what he's doing and has completely stunted the youth's growth by acting like they're the smartest people in the room reinventing development, resulting in 1-2 more good years from the vets before an entire franchise crashes back into the lottery despite having at one point an insane prospect pool lauded league-wide.

Detroit

Most homer: we may soon have an outstanding D with Seider, Edvinsson, Wallinder, Johanson, Hronek and Buium

Least: the rebuild is already failed due to lack of real stars up front

Vancouver Canucks

MH:
Demko will be in the hunt for the Vezina as early as this upcoming season. OEL will only decline in the last 1/1.5 years of his contract and his current play is very underrated.

LH: Too many forwards with a similar skill sets and outside of EP40, Miller and QH the team lacks true game changing talent. The lack of D-Prospects with a real shot to make the team will force bad singings and trades all in an effort to make it farther than the first round of the playoffs.

Least Homer : Sanderson will not win Norris, Calder, and Conn Smyth this season. He will struggle early during injury recovery and adapting to NHL.

I get what you mean, despite all the snarky comments.

It's true that Sanderson is extremely highly valued among some Senators fans right now, to the point where it may be unfair to a guy who has 0 games of NHL experience and has a rather unlucky recent injury history.

MH: Josh Norris is on a Jonathan Toews trajectory.

LH: Ottawa won't sniff the playoffs without a much better defensive corps. The challenge of having a young core is the inevitable defensive shortcomings. Ottawa had good goaltending last year and still didn't look great defensively.
