What is wrong with Timo Meier?

It's pretty obvious he's playing injured. Even if you don't watch the games just check the stats. He's thrown 2 hits in the last month. He averaged 2/game over the last 2 years.

All i hear are excuses from Dev fans (and now their coach too) for a guy who just cashed in.

Yes, the coach is in on it now too. Pretty soon it'll be the GM and owners as well.

Makes much more sense than a player that missed 2 1/2 weeks due to injury to still having lingering issues affecting his play. Clearly Meier is shot at 27 years old now that he got a big extension, he completely skipped offseason workouts and doesn't care to put any effort into his game anymore now that he got paid, etc.

I know you're a Rangers troll that gets involved in EVERY Devils-related thread on the main boards, but this is pathetic even for you...which says a hell of a lot.

We are so in your head
Ah big lou back, i always look forward to your off topic posts.
I have no problem with a civil conversation and I don't pull the "trolling" card that often at all.

That being said, when you're getting to the point that you're now accusing the coach of lying when it comes to Meier still battling an injury...what else am I supposed to call it? It's just a ridiculous statement for a player that (a) missed several weeks due to injury and (b) hasn't looked remotely the same since. I find it difficult that you even believe what you wrote.

I have no problem with criticism of Meier - it was well deserved before his injury and to a lesser extent now. He still has a lot to prove given his massive contract, but it's ridiculous for people like you and other posters to act like his recent injury is a complete non-factor.
Where did I say he is “lying”. I said he is making excuses for his players because if he was still injured enough where he can’t contribute to the team, then why would he keep playing him and not allowing him to fully heal? So no, I don’t think injuries are keeping him back.

Could be worse, he could have 3 points in his last 15 games after supposedly figuring everything out.

Just saying.

Injury or not, he hasn't looked the same since getting traded nearly a calendar year ago. It's more than stats, he's constantly chasing the play and doesn't seem to fit into his team. He's still in the honeymoon phase but if this continues for another few months the same fans defending him will join those already turning on him.

Two things that can be true at once:

1. Players don't always mesh well with new teammates and/or the systems their tasked with playing under.
2. Lingering injuries can cause a player's inefficient play to become even more glaring.

Wild it wouldn't benefit devils fans to lie to themselves , healthy or injured he's on their cap and not playing that well they can see it lol

What do you mean “or injured”? That’s the whole push back, big guy lol. Yeah, he’s not playing to his level - he’s clearly not 100% physically.

I think most Devils fans recognize that he was disappointing this season prior to this injury and has been abysmal since. The injury is most certainly a factor - it doesn't completely excuse his poor play, but we also have no idea to what degree it impacts it or why NJ continues to play him when he doesn't seem to be helping the team.

I guess because I'm not willing to completely write him off for the duration of the contract or ship him off for Huberdeau or some other cap dump, I'm just making excuses for him though. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm not sure exactly what NJ management saw in him as I rarely watched Timo with San Jose. He didn't exactly gel last season, but was most definitely one of their better players in the playoffs despite what the stats say. He had a slow start to the season, but again was a PPG player the 11 games prior to getting injured so he was at least on the right track, even if he was playing below expectations during that time.

We have a recent enough example with Dougie Hamilton of a player that really didn't look that good his first season with NJ (in part due to injuries) and then had a vastly improved 2nd season, to the point he was 6th in Norris voting. Of course that doesn't guarantee a thing for Meier, but excuse us if we're not ready to throw in the towel on this player just yet.

I mean with fans like you I can't see why anyone would want to annoy jersey fans .
I’ll actually cop to this one. I misread that exchange - you were agreeing that no one would be “lying”, as in supporting the case that he’s injured. Crypto Bro liking your post I think sent me in the wrong direction.

That’s my fault, sorry.

Look it's concerning but he did have 11 points in 14 games. Hopefully he becomes a force at some point. He was brought in to bring something different to the team so it's not a surprise that they're putting Toffoli with the high-scorers instead. But yes, big difference in his ability to be physical and drive play compared to before the injury.

Well wouldn’t ya know, coach making excuses up for his player. He’s so injured where he can’t do anything on the ice but he keeps on playing him huh? Makes sense.
Yeah, no NHL player has every played injured before. You make a great point.

Looked terrible yesterday, pretty sure he didn't touch the biscuit in the first. Only given 13:22 ice time and that was generous. Not a single shot. He needs a break or something, this isn't working. And this is coming after being called out by the coach, "We’re trying to get him there and he’s gotta try hard to get there." TRY HARDER

He can’t skate, and his play won’t improve until he can skate again.

His analytics have legitimately tanked after being elite for years. An injury seems like a very reasonable explanation.

People who write off health as a lame excuse have never had a difficult job, let alone pro hockey player.
It could just be mental as well or anything.

really he is off either way , would be weird to expect him to stay in the slump when he was a good player on an absolute terrible team before

Watched this guy during pre-game warmup tonight attempt to flick a puck to some NJ fans in the corner (section 109/110 to be exact). So not even close to the end of the netting area, a good 10ft away from it.

The puck obviously hits the netting and bounced back. Attempted again right after, puck hits the netting and bounced back to him again so he skates away.

Not hating just thought it was strange/funny. Was he just trolling?

I thought this was a bump since he has 4 goals in his last 5, but no I guess he just sucks since he can't flick a puck during warmup :(
