I thought this was a bump since he has 4 goals in his last 5, but no I guess he just sucks since he can't flick a puck during warmup :(

I'm not a Devils fan but it's frustrating seeing the Devils win 6-2 and click into the box score and see his statline 0-0-0 -1 for my fantasy hockey team. So often the Devils have high scoring games and he's not on the score sheet.

In the last 3 games Meier looks closer to Meier last year.

The acceleration is back, the moves are back. He is more aggressive with the puck.

The answer to this thread is and was.....

He had been nursing/recovering from the earlier injury this season. He did start tremendously bad though but had picked it up and then got injured.

He's still a young man - I wouldn't write him off just yet. But if he continues to stink up the joint next season... yikes.

He isn’t that good

The devils would be a better player with Zetterlund right now. The sharks knew something was off with Meier and basically scammed the Devils

I say this all as a Devils fan
They knew that Meier had some up years and down years, that he wouldn't be worth the money every year for 8 years. Plays a physical game, some wear and tear risk over an 8 year term.

The fact that the Devils GM didn’t do his research in this regard and just wanted a shiny new toy while giving away good future assets is just baffling to me.

This trade will be known as a steal by the Sharks

The Sharks didn’t “know there was something off”, we just knew it wasn’t smart to sign him to the deal he’d want given we were at the very beginning of our rebuild.

Meier is a great player. He’s also 28 years and most likely his best years are behind him, as they are for most power forwards his age. Additionally, he’s not really the “veteran leader” type like Couture and Hertl are, so it didn’t make sense to keep him to guide the youth or anything the way it does to keep the other two.

With that said, I think Grier deserves a lot of credit for swinging the deal he did. Mukhamadullin, Musty, and Zetterlund all look to be long-term pieces for the Sharks. The “second worst GM” in the league, indeed. :eyeroll:

He looks absolutely lost most nights, he’s got no chemistry with anyone on the roster. He’s already put himself into untradeable territory and he’s rapidly headed towards worst contact in the league.

I'm willing to chalk some of this season's cratering to the injuries, but the bolded is a probably a legitimate concern for me at this point.

They honestly have no idea what to do with him in the lineup. It hasn't really worked with anyone except some of the guys at the bottom of the lineup (I thought Mikey was a good match for him on a line, but obviously that went south in a hurry) and I don't know what to do with that. He really doesn't seem to mesh well with Jack or Nico which is probably not ideal.

They've also been unwilling to put him on PP1 for whatever reason even though the power play hasn't scored for nearly a month.

I was saying last year buyer beware

The amount of money he would ask for was not something you want to pay him for what he did.

What i dont get is why people refer to him as a power forward when he is 6ft tall.

when will the Meier+ for Huberdeau+ thread get restarted...

Timo Meier could retire today and this deal still wouldnt be a steal for SJ since they got so little to begin with

Meier, Karlsson.... guys who put up big #s on a terrible team without much talent, they go to other treams where they have to share the puck with other stars and their numbers go down.

I don't think he's a killer for NJ but maybe not what they were expecting to get.
