Jonathan Huberdeau holds the record for the largest points drop from one season to the next at -60.

He had 115 points with Florida in 2021-22 and then 55 points with Calgary in 2022-23.

Connor McDavid had 153 points in 2022-23.

As of November 23, he has 16 points in 16 games. Missed a couple games, but a 1.0 point/game projection (for a full season) would be 82 points in 2023-24.

That is a difference of 71 points.

Do we dare consider Huberdeau's record in jeopardy from one of the most unlikely sources?
It would be hilarious trivia, but it's not a serious comparative to anyone outside of Calgary. One player dropping from the most points in the last 30 years to still PPG, compared to top 5 in points dropping to a second liner...and on pace to do even worse. But whats better is that, if McDavid did regress there all on his own without the obvious injury, he's still less of a boat anchor at 12.5x2.

No, outside of trivia, I don't think Huberdrop has any real competition.

You know you are pretty darn good when you have 20 points in 17 games and the fans are in horror with how bad you've been. He is now 11 points back of the scoring race, which could easily be his for the taking by Christmas time. Honestly, who would be surprised if McDavid's name is at the top of the scoring race in a month? I wouldn't. He's done it 5 times in his career. Here is my take with everything else though, the Oilers are in an uphill battle to make the playoffs. Forget the division, that's toast. Even 2nd or 3rd in the division is going to be hard but not impossible. However even a wild card is not going to be easy for them to get. The good news is the teams that occupy those spots are worse than them. McDavid will be fine, he isn't getting 150 points again (I got into a debate a few months ago with some fan boys that just as well assumed 150 would be normal for him) but he could still take home the Art Ross. The Oilers are just a hot mess either way though.

So Teddy Bear, what does your little computer say now?

The turnaround has begun.

It’s to highlight how silly it is to pose the idea that McDavid will suffer a one season drop greater than Huberdeau, when literally one game later, he picked up 12 points on the “beloved” pace.

Meh, it’s all silly. He’s hurt. He’s frustrated. He’s probably wondering about his future.

Who f***ing cares about point drops. Useless drivel.

He's not listed on the national team, and the remaining qualifiers are during the NHL season where he is contractually obligated to play for his NHL team. I'm starting to think that you don't know much about Olympic aquatic sports at all.
