Man I was so against this trade at first but I've been happy to be eating crow awhile now. However after Miller keeps producing at this rate I'm gonna die of gluttony and happy to !!

He has outperformed any expectations I remember reading at the time of the trade, not least of all mine.

I still think the trade makes very little sense considering the state the team is in.

But it is a much needed pro scouting win.

On pace for 30 goals and 80 points. Blowing past his previous highs with ease. And a great linemate for EP and Boeser plus one of the top faceoffs guys. What a pickup!

Miller is likely going to lead the team to the playoffs. And we likely traded a first in 15-20 range. How doesn’t it make sense?

I completely agree and did at the time of the deal. The issue i had was risking a lottery pick. I said at the time of the deal that a mid 1st and a 3rd for a 55pt heavy versatile forward 26 on a great contract was a no brainer.

The trade will be judged once we know what we gave up. That's the risk and gamble that Benning was willing to make.

As far as what we aquired....pretty sure no one expected this. Miller is an absolute stud and the exact type of player we needed. Excellent aquisition

JT Miller is the exact player the Canucks have been trying to acquire the entire last decade.
absolutely. And most of us are probably underrating his versatility. IMHO, he's a true driver of offense from any forward position.

I love the fact that he’s so accountable and calls himself out. A great role model. From the Sun:
‘A miffed and mad Miller is a good Miller.
While taking stock of his lot at the halfway mark of this season, the hard-working, hard-driving, hard-on-himself left winger was lamenting everything missing in his game. It wasn’t his goal total or his work on the league’s fourth-ranked power play. It was his 200-foot game.’

One stat I just noticed about Miller that is incredible: He leads the league with a faceoff winning percentage of 74.2% on the powerplay - he's won 23 of 31 faceoffs on the powerplay. That's huge for getting set up in the offensive zone.

I wonder if that's tied to the new rule of choosing FO side (and picking his strong side).

Because we are not likely to make the playoffs.

And this team wont challenge for the cup for at the very least 3 years, maybe more.

It wasnt too long ago when Canuck fans hated Luongo and Näslund for being "playoff chokers."
Now all you need to do is make the playoffs and call it a success... :help:

In what universe is it unlikely that we’ll make the playoffs? We are in the playoffs now and According to the oddsmakers we have a 70-75% chance to make the playoffs.

Imagine this team without Miller though. Definately a bottom team.

Getting Miller was the right move.

You're supplying these inferences without an accompanying argument. You're presenting beliefs as facts without even bothering to explain them as beliefs.

While I can agree to some extent of the timing you can't argue against the development of Pettersson, Boeser and Horvat not to mention trickle effect down. No way Canucks are exciting or confident as they are without Miller. We're a one line team without him but not anymore. His versatility to move around and help wherever he's placed is invaluable. Miller has helped Canucks become respectable and he's made us an exciting team to watch again along with the others of course. Pettersson, Boeser, Horvat , Pearson, Gaudette , Virtanen are all having career years and Hughes is above anything I expected this fast. Even Edler has started to play like before. Maybe I give Miller too much credit but I feel he has really helped stir the team. 6 wins in a row might be making me happy to .

Remove him from the lineup and do they even have a top line? Can't really say that they would relying on Ferland, Leivo, and Pearson in the top 6 with Bo, Petey, and Brock.

Miller in his 4 prior full NHL seasons (no AHL time), put up 43, 56, 58, 47 points. So, my expectation for production was in the mid 50's to low 60's. Didn't expect a PPG pace that he is on. Even a drop down to 70 for the season would be exceeding expectations.

It's a steep price to pay. Main concern is the new deal he would need at age 30. Given the Schenn deal in STL which kicks in for 8 years when he is 29, it's a scary proposition to think about having to give that to Miller when his deal is up. But, that will depend on the development of wingers like Podkolzin, Hoglander, Lind, Lockwood, etc. If they can hit, then with Brock as well, you don't need to pay the premium to keep him if you have options. It's too bad he wasn't signed to a max term 8 year deal until he turns 33, even at a higher cap hit.
