2010 Forester
Those old foresters with the big windows are great for driving around and admiring scenery.
2010 Forester
My first car was an '82 Rabbit 4 door. Automatic transmission. I think it was like 72 or 74 hp. I had to tortoise up hills if I had more than 2 people in the car. Great car, though. I was bound and determined to get a car and the minute I turned 16, I went out and picked this up for $2k. I had $800 saved up from working and refereeing soccer and borrowed the rest from my Dad, who I paid back at $150 a month.
When I graduated high school, my surprise present was that my Dad had been putingt that cash into a savings account and just turned it over to me. So, I had $1200 in my pocket when I went to college. Really cool thing to do. Learned how to earn something over time, but at the same time, my dad was cool enough not to take my money.
I realize this post is almost a year old but I just saw it. For having such a great dad it’s surprising that you turned out to be such a prick.
Sorry man...My dad is super cool. Over the last year, he's started with early stages of dementia, and it's heartbreaking to witness the decline.
The have a plug in Escape and the Mach-E nowI’ve got a 2016 Ford C-Max Hybrid that I love. It came fully loaded and gets 40 mpg. I hate that Ford dropped this model and don’t know where I will find a replacement someday. Maybe flying cars by then?

I was driving A 2004 chevy malibu but I just got hit-and-ran so it's time for a new car
Either I have bad luck or no luck

I ha a Miata for a couple of years. Lot's of fun, but almost got killed several times as trucks, vans and SUVs don't see you due to the low profile and either cut you off or merge right into you. After several near catastrophes, I sold it.Now that we don't have hockey to talk about for a couple of days, just wondering if anyone has a "mid-life crisis car" (or younger version!). I've always thought about getting a 2nd fun used car when I retire, and now that it's 5-7 years away I'm thinking about it a little more. I really like my car now and would happily keep it for a long time and get a 2nd (used) car rather than replace it. Anyway, I may never do it but figured it might be a fun OT conversation....
I've thought about a few options. I always lusted after 911s when I was younger, and the Cayman actually reminds me more of those old 911s than the current 911 does. But a lot of the people who drive Porsches have kind of ruined them for me - they've gone from being a driver's car to a status symbol. Expensive to maintain too. A Corvette would be another option, mostly because I test drove a Chevy SS which has a Corvette engine and loved the sound, but again there's kind of a demographic thing with that and it seems like a stereotypical thing to do. I also see a lot of 4-5+ owner used Corvettes out there, so I guess there's a reason people get them and then sell them.
Anyway, I keep coming back to the same car: a Honda S2000. I always loved those things, even though I'm not typically a fan of convertibles. Totally a driver's car that has an all-time great manual transmission, great handling, reliable, redlines around 9000 rpm, etc.. So that would be my pick. Anyone else?

That's a good point and something I have in the "con" column.I ha a Miata for a couple of years. Those are awesome. Every visit BringATrailer? I see those on there - very cool. Most likely this car will never happen for me either - nice to think about though. However, I actually think a car like an S2000 could be a decent investment which will increase in value, especially as electric cars become more prevalent and people pine for internal combustion engines with screaming sound (real, not soundtrack). Probably 10+ years ago I was shopping for a car and was researching used previous generation Acura NSXs. At that time you could get a relatively low miles example for about what a pretty nice new car costs. But it wasn't practical for me as a daily driver and with kids. However, anyone who bought one of those cars back then as a fun car to put a few thousand miles a year on could probably double their money now if they sold it.I've been pining for a 240z for like 10 years but life keeps throwing me financial curve balls.
