What can we do to get Keefe fired.

Probably can shut this thread down. No chance of Keefe being fired this season.

I came to post the same thing. I just don't see it happening. I kind of figured that if they went at least .500 on the road trip and split with the Jets, the idea of him getting fired this season is off the table.

Yeah, no chance at this point. I expect that they will go on a decent winning streak over the next little while because the schedule gets easier after the all-star break, so I think he is safe. Mind you, I'm not sure his job was ever actually at risk.

I wonder if Keefe's sudden desire to hold the stars accountability was all of his own making or Brad had a talk with him?

It just seems odd that Sheldon let the inmates run the asylum for his first 4 years, so much so he publicly walked back the only time he every criticized them, and during that time there was plenty of times they deserved a benching, and just decided now was the time? Or was it merely taking a different approach because the team has never looked this shaky this late into the season before?

Before you decide to fire Keefe, figure out who you would replace him with who is better ... and show real names, not just general baloney statements.

If you can't come up with someone who would be better, and who is also available, and who is willing to take the job, then it is time to realize Keefe is the one in place to do the best he can with the team. Live with it and can the complaints.

Berube cause obviously mlse would never touch coach q

I don't understand the accountability comments.

The core guys carry this team, quite literally. It's common sense you won't see them benched or facing consequences 99.9% of the time. It has nothing to do with Keefe letting them have their way with the team. There is no coach that would bench Matthews and Marner. You sink or swim with these players because they're among the best in the league.

Friedman is reporting that the Leafs management group recognize that the Leafs issues are more than just a new coach away, they are going to hold on to Keefe for the season and then make decisions. I'm not sure what they can do, 12 players have a NTC, M-NTC or a NMC + Reaves they have 22 mil to sign 3 forwards, 3 dmen and 1 goalie.

The good thing about this is recognizing the problem. If you don't admit you have a problem you won't look for solutions. so IMO thats a good start.

Now... they have to let Tavares' contract playout. We need a solid re-tool. If we can convince Marner to waive his NTC/NMC then thats a start; or we trade Nylander before his NMC/NTC kicks in. One of those 2 have to go. We can't keep icing 11AAV+ players and take a massive hit on the depth and D.

We should use the 2 years to retool. Do not spend massive draft capital or sell anymore futures (its not lke we have much left dubas sold it all); but whatever we do have we have to keep it. Then we take solid 2 runs with Matthews' last 2 years and go from there IMHO

At this point, that $11M could be spent literally almost any other way and it would be more efficient and a better means of achieving the goal of winning a Stanley cup.

- Any other single player who makes $9M+? Yes.
- Any two good-to-great players who make $7M + $4M? Hard to imagine screwing that up.
- A star, a mid-roster player and a role player at $6M, $3M and $2M? Surely there are a few permutations of that, that you could come up with that don't look as attractive as paying JT $11M all by himself, but I see no reason to believe we'd go after poor values.
What do Bertuzzi, Klingberg and Reaves add up to?

it's mainly one crunch year once JT is off hte books and cap rises again team should be OK cap wise even assuming marner gets a big deal

for next season i guess you have to rely on the youth and finding lesser known talent. e.g. knies, robertson, holmberg on offense; lagesson, liljegren, benoit, timmins, on defense; woll in net to contribute.

probably will yield mixed results but it is what it is.
