Speculation: What are the Bruins' needs?

If Florida tanks we need to get Mueller for the 3rd line

This guy is playing like a beast. His stats might not be great but watching the game tonight as the Panthers get blasted by Philly, this kid doesn't seem to have read the script he is a bull on the puck and has good acceleration. He sure would look good with Kelly and Peverly. Nothing against Bourque but Mueller could be a steal of a pickup come deadline time. I really wish we had signed this guy. I watched the Panthers and Sens as well and he was strong in that game too.

I still say we need Jarome Iginla. I like the terrible start Calgary's gotten off to, and hope it continues. This will finally be the year Iginla gets out of Alberta IMO.

And functionally it helps us both with depth, 3rd line play, and the PP (big time).

If Calgary trades Iginla, they're going to be looking for a package starting with Spooner/Koko. Pass. I want this team to be a power for the next 10 years. Drafting, developing and signing your good young players to long-term deals is the way to go.

other than health i'm good to go.....however, what the Bruins really need is the rest of their division to be just good enough to pick out of the top 5. I don't want to see Jones, Drouin, MacKinnon, Barkov, or Monahan coming to any of our immediate competition.

What would be outstanding is seeing a late Leafs surge to put them about 10th- they'd still likely get a real good player but just not a bleeping all but lock stud buidling block

why is Joe Colborne not in Toronto? that Marlies roster is a who's who of top prospects. Poor Mike Moteau.

If Iginla was 5 years younger I'd do that type of package assuming they could fit him in to the lineup but if the Cap goes down there is no chance

Little early yet .. but agree !!

Scared of his own shadow again :shakehead .... put him up with loooch for awhile ;)

lemme guess - you watch the games on the radio once in a while?

He looked pretty scared of his shadow last night when he outskated the isles D-man to not only prevent an icing but even make a respectable outlet pass to the slot for a potential scoring situation. something that will never show up on any stat sheet but something that tells this grizzled yet cagey fan that the kid is working his a$$ off and if he keeps doing that then the goals will come. A lot of natural goal scorers score in streaks and have slumps, Seg's slump just happens to be occurring at the beginning of the season when every little play is magnified because of the small sample size of games. Hell how many posts has he hit? When he's hot those will start going in.

Five years younger, sure. No cap constraints, sure.

And if my aunt had couilles, she'd be mon oncle. ;)

He is a UFA after this year, and he knows he won't get the $7m he's making now. I think a contender could get Iginla for less than some think for Jarome to get a shot at the Cup. Maybe $3-3.5m? Maybe I'm wrong, and maybe that team won't be the Bruins, but they could take him this year as a rental, worst-case scenario. I could see dealing some futures for that. They can't all play for you.

I don't think so, because Goucher and Beers wouldn't insinuate such a thing. They're seeing the same things you are.

Agreed. 5 of our top 6 will be here forever....as is 2/3 of our 3rd and 4th lines. Iginla can still play at a high level.

not necessarily a sock puppet. Lets say a fellow traveler in the ways of pontificating on games that he doesn't even watch.

OK, I know what you mean. But that's why said if someone is listening to Goucher and Beers, they wouldn't come away with that impression at all. They're great at what they do, and I'm sure they've been noting how hard Seguin is working and that he's simply a bit snakebitten right now.

Been watching the Bruins 2011 playoff run on Youtube for about three hours.

Among a few things, I noticed Brad Marchand. I think his value to the team during those playoffs--particularly against Montreal and Vancouver--is really overlooked. But, I think part of why it is overlooked is because of how important a guy like Mark Recchi was and what he did for that team. That Recchi-Bergy-Marchy line was dominant for long stretches of the 2011 playoffs and when they weren't dominant, they were still consistent and reliable.

And most of that team is still together and their forwards are still pretty young (only 3 active forwards over 30). The D worries me a little more. I'm not saying Ference's 33 or Siedenberg's 31 is old, but Dougie and Quaider are the only two D-men under 29.

So, if you're thinking both for the present and future--and the goal is to keep as much of the team intact as you can, within reason--I think it's safe to risk giving up some prospects to bring in someone older, with experience, who could put the team over the edge.

I'm not saying this Boston team doesn't have their share of capable leaders, but if there is one real need, they need that one guy who can bring out the best in everyone the way Recchi did. If that's Iginla, it's worth considering trading a Spooner+ to bring him in.

He was a slow starter last year.

Coincidentally, I'm pretty sure he scored his first goal in game 4/5 at Carolina... Deja vu? ;)

With the emergence of Hamilton as a true PMD, our offense has gotten so much better... Our PP has gotten better every game, too. Once Seguin readjusts to the NHL game I think we'll be fine again. We don't need much at all. Maybe an upgrade on the 3rd line LW, but Bourque is good enough for now.
