The series was done for after the Game 2 debacle. The ref's decided it again tonight.

Well, they tried to decide it by giving the only overtime powerplays to the Rangers. Aside from that it was a very close series. Congrats to both teams for playing their guts out.

You gotta admit the call on Zucc was bad though dude. Game should have never went to OT, so who cares how many PP chances the Rangers got in the extra frame.

Exactly right. I saw one interference by us that got uncalled in OT, but the penalties were legit. Also, the game shouldn't have gone there, much like game 2.

Pisses me off that that bonehead Milbury's prediction of Kings in 5 was right, pisses me off even more that it shouldn't have been. It's like the refs had that prediction too, in Vegas.

I'd say it was less of a prediction, and more of what he "hoped would happen". In this instance, his "hope" came true, sadly. He's still a punk, and always will be.

It was a good run. It's just frustrating that they lost games 1 and 2 when they should have been able to win them. It feels like they didn't get beat, rather they lost on their own.

I hope that they continue playing good hockey next season, and that they work on some of the issues that contributed to losing this series.

And they STILL could've called more penalties on the Kings in the overtimes.

Fact of the matter is, forget all of the could-be and should've-been PPs, and you have Dan O'Halloran giving the Kings a free goal in Game 2. Not a PP: he gave them a goal.

Whether they lost because the Kings' resolve was insurmountable, or they lost because they did it to themselves, the fact remains that the Rangers weren't good enough to win it all. It's okay, the Kings are a stacked, well built team, with incredible resiliency. There's no shame in losing to them.

That said, this was a remarkable playoff run, easily the best run since 1997, introducing the concept of actually beating the Penguins in a playoff series. About freakin' time.

My heart is broken because Lundqvist gave it his all, and it still wasn't enough. Came close with the McDonagh post and Nash getting deflected in route to an empty net...but them's the breaks.

I hope it's a huge learning experience for the core. With smart decisions at free agency, or savvy trades, the team should be able to get better. Thinking back to how grim everything looked in October, AV completes a sensational first year as Rangers head coach.

Let's not take 20 years to get back to the finals.

I agree but it's still frustrating. I think this is a real good team going forward and I'm optimistic about next season because as good as they were this season, there is still a lot of room for improvement. It feels good knowing that this isn't all they have, and that they can get better.

A lot of guys just looked exhausted in the finals. In the coming days we'll also get to find out what types of injuries we were dealing with, which is always interesting.

Lastly, as much as losing stings, I'm at least happy for Gaborik.

I feel likewise happy for Gaborik, he really got the short end of the stick in NY.

Also agreed about the exhaustion factor, seemed like the Kings were better conditioned, seeing how they dominated 3rd periods. Maybe the Rangers can learn to finish series sooner than 7 in the early rounds.

i think what pisses me off as much as anything else (key players disappearing, the refs and their terribad calls etc) is that people now and in the future will look at the series being decided in 5 and think the rangers got steam-rollered. But for a craptacular decision by refs here or a bad bounce there and it could so easily have been the rangers winning in 5.

Also, Kings fans.

Very proud of the rangers and the way they played this year and really feel for them about how it ended. So many guys on the team deserve to win the cup, and i truly hope that they get the chance again soon (preferably in a rangers uniform).

and Boyle's goal was ****ing fantastic.

Series over in 5, Series could have tipped either way at any point during the series. LA deserves credit for finding a way to close the game when Rangers could not.

Im proud of this team for taking it to the doorstep, now maybe next season we can actually hoist the damn thing.

Pre-season and contract negotiations are going to be insanely exciting

Girardi was injured, his passes used to be very accurate and he was having trouble even handling the puck. I'd guess a broken hand/finger or something.

I agree. IIRC he missed a shift or two in game one with a hand injury.
It would explain his passing and when you are injured it can affect your overall game because it gets in your head. We saw it with McDonough in round one.

Also,I missed the zucc call, was it really that bad? Anyone have a video?

I continue to be astonished at the lack of respect given to the Rangers. For a series that could have gone either way, the media is acting proud of the fact that they predicted the Rangers would be road pizza before the series began, not acknowledging that the Rangers could have clinched tonight. The Kings are an excellent team.....the Rangers gave them all they wanted and more. Yet they still get no respect.

We really dropped the ball in games 1 and 2. Blowing two goal leads as easy as we did is something you can't do when we've made it that far.
If we didn't royally **** it up there, we would've hoisted the cup for sure. We just beat ourselves with some mindblowingly bad plays.

It stings, but it was a terrific run. Hoping it won't take another 20 years to reach the SCF.

Hopefully Richie gets dumped. We're stuck with Nash right?

Great season. Just those damn 3rd periods and not burying OT chances.

I feel so bad for Henrik. But I'm confident this team is capable of taking the next step and winning it all. Hope the front office figures away to retain as much of this roster as possible.

AV consistently panics in the 3rd period.

Looking into the games, we lost three 3rd period leads, we lost 3 OTs and got owned all five 3rd periods of the series. Can't happen in a Stanley Cup Final if we want to win.

This could have been different, thought we had the tools and player personel. What if Nash actually scored a goal, what if G an Richards showed up? That is core players dragging our performance down just enough to lose in 5 IMO.

3 OT/2OT games lost on the road and that's the series. Rangers got jobbed with that interference call and that kind of changed the dynamic of the series. If last night was goalie interference and Pouliout's was goalie interference then King was 1000% goalie interference. That call against Zuc last night for "tripping" when the LA player stuck his league out was kind of atrocious, too.

That being said, Kings were the better team/better lineup. If the Rangers were going to win this thing they needed to bury more of their chances while their goalie was standing on his head. Too many missed opportunities, missing the net, etc... Can't win a Cup if you can't finish.

Going to be tough to keep this team together. Richards will be bought out and the Rangers have a slew of UFA's/RFA's to be signed. I hope they keep as much of this team together as they can. Strong group that was better than the sum of its parts.

Kudos to LA, too. They persevered as much, if not more, than the Rangers did. Two quality teams.

Won't deny that I'm a bit salty about how things went down in the final series with questionable calls and all, but in hindsight I'm still very proud of this team. Even reaching the finals was exceeding my expectations.

They aren't all that much better. Just a few inches here and there.

The Kings' skaters are monsters at corralling loose pucks & turning the play around. How many times did the Rangers overskate just a little bit, only to find the puck did not go forward as far as they thought, because a King had got a stick on it.

But yeah, add the goalies, and it's just a few inches. The Rangers played them to the limit.

Three OT losses. No wonder I hate overtime. It's such a painful way to lose.

Thank You Rangers...for everything (The grief and appreciation thread)

I came home to my puppy having destroyed our apartment...but now that I've had a few minutes to look past the intense pain that I'm sure we're all feeling right now... I just want to say thank you Rangers, for this incredible run, and for turning my girlfriend into a bona-fide hockey fan forever.

This hurts so much worse than all my Bills Super Bowl losses. This hurts more than any break up, yet I've never been so proud to be a Ranger fan.
