I’m thinking Timmins could be swapped for a minimum guy.
Wouldn’t rule out a bigger move on D either. Possibly replacing Brodie. Not sure

That is why I am asking... If these bonuses hits and that get them over the cap, it will be added to next year's total and that is a bad timing with Matthews extension.

Pretty sure they'd want to avoid that .

Edit : just look at Knies contract, no performance bonuses, just signing bonus.

So that’s a non issue. Only thing they miss out on by ltiring Murray and muzzin is the opportunity to accrue cap space but Murray doesn’t change that as they would have muzzin on ltir anyway.

If they ghost Murray’s cap hit to ltir or another team then they have 3m for Sammy which is a doubling of his last season salary. Pretty decent pay bump for a short term prove-it deal

Move Jarnkrok, he will get a decent return and he was an utter boat anchor in the playoffs anyways. He can’t play in the top six now and he didn’t fit in the bottom either, grab a pick or prospect and move on, he isn’t much of anything when it matters.

Biggest problem is that the team acquiring Murray will have to be ok with paying him the full 6 millions in real money (8 millions - 2 millions paid by Ottawa) since that team won't have the right to buy him out.

Poor teams (Arizona, etc) will never accept to pay 6 millions for a draft pick IMO.

Here our options, essentially:

1) Trade Murray by parting with some sort of sweetener
2) Trade another large contract like, say, Nylander
3) Treliving already knows that Murrary is unfit to play, so they Robidas Island him and bank on LTIR and a couple of small roster movements to squeak by
4) Buyout Murray. Now, we passed on the initial buyout window, so the only way to do this is by unlocking the second buyout window by entering into salary arbitration with another player on the team. The only player eligible is Samsonov. Also, the team passed on the Club Elected arbitration window, so it would have to be Player Elected. So technically there is a non-zero chance that Treliving's plan is to refuse to negotiate in good faith with Samsonov and his agent and hope they choose to go to arbitration and actually go through with the hearing, so that they can buy out Samsonov's own goaltending partner

Send one of Robertson or Holmberg down and that gives us 3 mill. Obviously one more move will come, but we're pretty close, it doesn't need to be drastic,

Robertson needs to be our 3LW and getting some quality PP time next year for 82 games or we accept he is a nic petan/pontus aberg and wont work at the NHL level

He should be heavily featured and used next year.

Holmberg you can send down for cap savings if needed
