We'll be back next year. Flames win 3 - 1

I think the Kings' biggest needs this offseason are a top-line winger, third-line center, and second-pairing defenseman (if Sekera doesn't resign and Voynov doesn't come back). Nick Shore is a great kid, but I'd prefer he be a great fourth-line center while he's still on his entry-level deal. Our fourth line to end the season was pretty good.

I think we've got one-too-many third/fourth tweeners. King/Clifford/Nolan/Lewis/Andreoff...

Gaborik - Kopitar - Brown
Pearson - Carter - Toffoli
King - Vermette - Lewis
Clifford - Shore - Nolan

Muzzin - Doughty
Sekera - Voynov
McNabb - Martinez
Greene

Quick
Jones

That would be ideal.

Money is the issue with signing any kind of semi-marquee forward. Probably not going to happen unless we get rid of Richards contract.

I'm man enough to admit that I'm slightly concerned about our playoff chances now. Still mildly confident though

I think this is a "blessing in disguise" so to speak for your Kings. They get a long rest compared to the last 3 grueling playoff runs. I honestly don't think they would have gone far if they made the playoffs due to fatigue and a lack of motivation.

Instead next season they'll have rest and a motive to prove themselves as a force once again.

I think Vermette wants like five to six million a year. That's too much for a third line center, I don't think you guys want him.

Stop putting Brown on the damn first line already. He's done and I'm pretty sure Kopitars back is bad enough from carrying his ass for all these years.

I wouldnt be that worried if I was you to be honest.. 2 Cups, and the core is still there. Enjoy the summer, you will be back next year.

San Jose on the other hand.. just fukkin brutal.

I'm thinking they're not gonna get home ice in round 1 either. Just a few days ago that was the actual goal.

Quick question, not trying to start anything - but why was Sekera scratched? It was my impression he was doing well, especially since he was a highly sought after dman at the trade deadline.

If in 2010 you would have told me in the next 5 year cycle the Kings would be in 3 Western Conference Finals, win 2 Stanley Cups and miss the playoffs one time in that span, I gladly would have taken it and even gone streaking around the Staples Center in utter joy.

This team still has a strong core (Carter, Toffoli, Quick, Doughty, Kopitar, Gaborik) but it needs a tune up as many have mentioned.

Would be great to get another GM drunk to take on Richie in a deal.

Rest up for a few months, heal the wounds and come back stronger for the 2015/16 season.

We'll be fine.

No points from Gaborik, Williams, or Brown. No goals from Kopitar, Gaborik, Williams, Brown, Toffoli, or Carter. The top 5 goal scorers for the year, 0 goals on 53 shots in those 5 road games. Shore, Richards, and Lewis had as many points as Kopitar.

As the year played out, it was clear the road record was going to make or break the Kings. After going through NJ, NYR, and NYI with a 3-0 record, they were in a playoff spot.

It was the Minnesota & Chicago games that killed their playoff chances. Both games they were sitting & waiting in those 2 cities as those 2 teams played the night before on the road. No excuse to lose those 2 games in that scenario. None.

Not sure if it would've mattered, but the Kings had total possession with 2 min to go, yet Quick was still in net. They waited until 1:06 after they lost control to get the extra skater out there. They never got the puck back. There was no reason why he didn't pull him early, and I swear it sounds like you can hear Quick hitting his stick on the ice trying to get his attention. This is the 2nd or 3rd time we've seen Sutter do this with the exact same results.

Surprised nobody has mentioned this! I was screaming at my ****ing TV. But hey Sutter it wasn't like it was do or die :shakehead

Given that the Kings allowed an EN in the next 15 seconds, and that they have routinely given up ENs pretty quickly, what motivation does Sutter have (really) to pull the goaltender with more than just a minute or so left in the game? Do the Kings EVER score with a 6-on-5?

Literally, the last time I can recall us doing so was in the 2013 playoffs against San Jose, with Voynov getting the tying goal.

Does anyone recall a more recent 6-on-5 winner in the last couple of minutes of the game?

I get what you're saying but it doesn't matter. This was our last gasp and you have to pull Quick sooner.

I'm proud of this team, and I'm not discouraged by this year's result. They'll contend again. If anything, missing the playoffs may be the best thing for them right now.

Agreed. We seem to get scored on the second the opponent gets possession of the puck, so why bother pulling Quick when it's almost a gurantee it's going to allow a goal. I'm actually way more concerned with our inability to get empty net goals ourselves. It's ****ing baffling. We get hemmed in our zone for the rest of the game and if we do *somehow* get free, we can't get through the neutral zone.

I think the last goal we got when we pulled Quick was against the Preds this year when we came all the way back just to lose on their first shot in OT.

Our top 9 forwards hadn't scored in over 3 games of action, so I doubt it would have mattered. Sutter drives me bonkers with waiting to pull Quick, but given the fact that we give up EN's like they are going out of style, it's just something I've learned to accept with Sutter.
