Ha, I started reading it but I'll read it in full when it's not going on midnight.
Looking forward to @Fenway’s response at 2:57am tomorrow.

It’s a very interesting read.

The Patriots’ rise to the top has coincided with the explosion of the NFL’s popularity.

Even if the team is/becomes truly awful, I’m curious how popular they’ll remain in these parts solely because they’re an NFL franchise.

Can’t see Robert pulling the plug mid year.

If Jonathan’s calling the shots, I think that’s a different conversation.

Not sure what ownership thought would happen. Hope that the issue was Patricia and Judge and That BoB would magically fix things?

The roster sucks top to bottom.
That’s on GM Bill.

And now Coach Bill can’t get them to make the smart plays and protect the ball. Special teams sucks too.

You’re right, Bill has to go.
And there’s no easy way out.

Nobody can take away the 6 Lombardis, but part of Kraft’s legacy becomes he let Brady walk and then had to fire Bill.

I know there's this idea that Belichick's a dictator that controls everything, but I think there are a lot of signs that he hasn't hired the same quality of support.

Dynasty 1.0 (2000s) was built around veteran coaches, many of whom came from the Parcells coaching tree, and personnel guys from Belichick's time in Cleveland. Dynasty 2.0 (2010s) had a lot of coaches and personnel who developed under Dynasty 1.0. Now take a look a the current staff. Not a single offensive coach has a ring as a coach from one of the 6 Lombardi seasons. They had a huge brain drain when McDaniels took almost the entire offensive staff with him and Fears retired.

I know the talent sucks, and Brady's not here to cover weak spots, but the coaching talent around Belichick isn't anywhere near as good as it used to be. And the reason I mention it is because the position coaches are the ones coaching up players on fundamentals. Belichick organizes it, and I'm sure he'll touch on it in individual moments in practice, but it largely falls on the assistant coaches and it's clear they're failing.

And I think it's worth pointing this out because we saw what this team looked like in 2021, and if you look closely at the offensive talent, it's really not that different. So what's changed? The offensive coaching staff. The current group can't coach them up like they used to, and that's as big as any reason why they're struggling this year.

Is the old man watching?

Someone find me a sportsbook where I can bet on them to lose by exactly 33 next week

Don't think there's any point in firing the coach mid season. What they should do is sell off pieces. Get draft capital for Mac, Bourne, Henry, Brown and Zeke if you can. Suck and get a high pick and hope it's the start of a real rebuild instead of trying to rush into being competitive again.

Yeah, the absolute worst thing that can happen at this point is they win a couple extra meaningless games because of the new coach "bump" and screw themselves out of a top pick in April.

Good question.

The Patriots have always been my favorite of the Boston teams since January 1986. When I was in high school, I was the only Patriots fan I knew. But back then, they didn’t have very deep roots here. The franchise was less than 40 years old, and everyone my parents’ age or older grew up rooting for the New York Giants if they cared about NFL football at all when they were kids.

There are two generations of New Englanders that grew up watching an unprecedented era of NFL success. I think it will take more than a few down years to really get most fans to jump off the wagon and abandon the Patriots altogether. Now, if they go eight or nine seasons without any real success, I think things could get lean.

I really don’t think the Kraft family will ever let it get that bad here again. They are very proud people, and I can tell that they really don’t like being embarrassed, and don’t want to be known as losers.

I don’t know what next season holds in store, but I’ll bet you dinner that things will be very different in Foxborough.

They were playing in Harvard Stadium the last time they lost this badly twice in a row...

So they've NEVER lost two games in a row by 30 points since moving to Foxborough prior to this.
