Too bad in that I thought he might be moderately useful in a pinch. I really wish they showed any desire whatsoever to add a vet WR for depth, but in Beane we trust I suppose.

Also, Hyde's neck injury is a big time concern going forward. I think we could afford to lose one of Poyer or Hyde, but both would be tough. Then again- the defense still played great against the Dolphins, and they were missing Poyer + Hyde + a shit ton of other starters.

Coaching has definitely elevated the impact of these players. Having a good pass rush has helped, too. Obviously the additions in the middle + Von, but the development of Rousseau has been outstanding. Basham also has looked good, too, but Rousseau may be on the path to becoming elite. The kid already wqs a great run stopper, but now he's making an impact on rushing the passer. Von is such a good mentor for him.
I'm starting to wonder if perhaps they try to get out of Hyde's deal and put the money toward Poyer.

Of all the guys that I could see them trying to cut to re-sign Poyer, Hyde is not one of them.
Perhaps. But if his long term health is a concern, and they can only afford to keep one safety monetarily (especially if the defense looks fine this year with Poyer-Hamlin), then it would make sense.

Wouldn't it make more sense to keep the safety who would have a dead cap hit of over 7 million? Unless there's concern about the neck on a year to year basis, but I haven't really seen anything indicating that and a neck injury shouldn't result in a degradation of his physical abilities the way you might be concerned about with a knee or something where you have to be off of it for a long period of time.

I think he was kind of already pricing himself out of Buffalo with the rumors he wants top of the market safety money. But if he keep intercepting balls at this rate he’s gone, because he will most likely get that top of the market money he’s (rumored to be) after.

This has been super noticeable. It was a bit of a complaint of mine in season’s past. Sometimes the Bills would make good adjustments but other times it seemed like they struggled.

This year their halftime adjustments on both sides of the ball have been maybe the best in the NFL, or damn near it.

The crazy part of that: the Bills have kicked off to start the 3rd in every game so far IIRC. In other words, they've scored 44 points in the quarter--and given up 0--despite the fact that their opponents are the one with the extra possession.

Hyde would bring $7M in dead cap if they cut him next year.

It is much more likely that they restructure Hyde than cut him. Or, they let him play next season and then take the $3.4M in dead cap in '24 if his long term health is an issue.

I believe it's only a 3 million dead cap hit if it's a post June 1 cut.

POST-6/1 RELEASE
2023 Dead Cap: $3,636,000
2024 Dead Cap: $3,408,000
2023 Cap Savings: $7,200,000

I still doubt that they do it if Hyde's rehab goes well and he is in line to start the 2023 season on time.

If they can get a reasonable deal agreed to with Poyer (and given his agent, I have serious doubts that they can), then I expect they make moves in other areas to make things work.

$3m is still a lot of money to pay an elite player to not play for you. Especially when you consider the how tight the Bills' cap situation is going to be for the foreseeable future.

You need to embrace the fact that 30+ yo players can still be valuable contributors in the NFL...

I'm not sure about Pitts... But Cordarellle Patterson has been absolutely phenomenal for Atlanta since he joined them.

I admit i have a huge soft spot for that type of player - but you would be hard pressed to find any player more important to his team (that isn't a QB or Aaron Donald) than Patterson is for Atlanta right now.
