That makes sense because he had no reason to report. But then who does the ref think he's talking to?

This is what you get when you have stupid f***ing esoteric rules between illegal formations and fumbling the ball in the end zone

The entire point of the setup is to create confusion around the ref. Doing it in a low time situation, in a lout stadium, and then not listening to the refs public announcement of what he believes you told him (announcing 70 as eligible instead of 68), and then blaming the ref is stupid.
Exactly. Not only that, but it's not fair to the defense if the referee annoucned #70 is eligible and then #68 catches the pass. He wasn't announced as eligible, so why would they guard him?

Who knows if he's open if the referee actually announces #68 as eligible.

Lions tried to cheat and got roasted. If the Cowboys understood 68 as eligible as announced, they would have covered him and the play would have likely failed.

Cats were dumb continuing to go for it unless they didn't want any more injuries win or lose.

There's no reason to approach the referee as a linesman unless you're reporting eligible. If you're not reporting as eligible, go to the huddle. The only reason to approach the referee is to bend the rules and to try to create confusion for the defense. The Lions sent 3 players to the referee in all, and they got burned.

Skipper wasn't even on the end of the line lol, he was a guard

I hate the Cowboys, but I believe the Lions players are lying.

The Lions are screwing themselves in future games. Refs are far more powerful than any team and enough goes on in games that they can pick and choose who wins.

You also have to keep things simple for Brad Allen. One of the flat out worst refs in the NFL. This is like the 3rd primetime game he's gotten that has ended in....questionable officiating at best.

What do you think Decker is talking to ref about then? Skipper being a guard, he shouldn't be reporting at all.

By the way, this is the same crew that blew the pass interference in the Packers/Chiefs game.

If Detroit heard #70 being announced then they should have corrected the official. He didn’t announce a number that was not On the field. 70 was also on the field so Detroit needed to get that right.
My understanding is that when OL report as eligible they raise their hand and basically draw an O on their belly to signify that they are eligible.

Sending 3 guys at the same time to vocalize "report" in a loud stadium is extremely stupid. I HATE Brad Allen. But I'm not surprised at all if he thought he heard it from a different player than who actually said it in that atmosphere amid that noise. And that's if Detroit players are telling the truth.

Maybe they should have noticed when the ref announced #70 was eligible instead of #68...

According to Decker, he said the word "report", which makes it even stupider to surround the refs with 3 players in a noisy environment.

And yet, he did go up to the ref, along with a 3rd player. What's he doing there?
Creating ambiguity and confusion. I have dealt with out of context and omitted info. It can work in certain judgment situations. The Lions are digging themselves a grave with this because every second is on tape.

If 70 went first to the ref, he's the eligible guy.

The subsequent approaches can only be viewed as an artifice to gain fan sympathy, especially with the anti-Cowboys crowd.
Football being a business, everybody in the team has little lawyering rub off on themselves, all of the people there.

Who aren't even full time employees.
It doesn't matter if they get a W-2 or not. Their role and powers are similar to a judge. They know they have complete power to enforce even if the call is screwed up. They will still screw things up.

Intent cannot be observed, but don't confuse inability to observe with lack of intent to influence games for ulterior motives.

How are they digging themselves a grave by explaining how the red screwed up?

That's not how it works. In fact I believe #70 was the last guy to approach the official, while the two tackles walked up together. If anything the 3rd guy (the other tackle that approached the official) was the 1st guy to the official
