Sorry to say it folks, but what's happening now with the Marner bashing is part of the reason this franchise will not succeed.

Why do we do this? We will end up driving this kid out of town. Even if Dubas doesn't want to deal him, who's going to want to play here under these circumstances? That's exactly the recipe for a bad trade.

Perhaps we need to find a happy medium between Plan the Parade (a week ago?) and what's happening now.

Perhaps the fragility of this team is reflective of the fragility of this fanbase. Let's practise some patience and break this cycle?

Because you know Mitch Marner comes out of this a changed man. We've all had to learn some hard lessons in life before we changed something that needed to be changed.

What just happened might be the worst thing that happens to this franchise in quite some time, but it could be the best thing, if some patience is exercised.

You are correct. The Impatient Fan is trying to make his return.

I'm sure the players on the team feel just as much hurt from losing as the fans, some more some less like all things in life.

Losing builds character and not the knee-jerk reaction that some fans get off on. We have not been in a position where the core is as strong as what we have now in a long time.

I'm getting fed up listening to all the whining and lack of fortitude that so many in this fan base exhibit.

When you talk of the impatient fan or the reason this franchise won’t succeed, are you talking about today or the last 50 years?

Are you talking about current management or the ones before when it was a success? Wait it wasn’t. Almost a success? Wait it wasn’t. No not quite a success. That’s better.
Could that have been ruined by the impatient fan?

Are you talking about social media today or when it wasn’t succeeding before the internet was even invented?

Just looking for clarification on the impatient fan.

Also Shanahan has been here for 7 years now. I’m not 20 or 30 or even 40. I don’t have the lifespan of a Krogan.

That's okay, one day you may figure it out. Until then just keep on gaining life experiences. Good luck.

Guys be patient like those Cubs and Sox fans who saw older generations die...wanting to have a father-son championship memory. Then they followed dad to the grave patiently hoping in vain. Then finally ... THEIR children experienced jubilation.

Guys we too can do that. You are strong and loyal. Never waver.

Nah i wont watch another game until they make it out of the first round

Leafs - most financially successful franchise in all of hockey while have ZERO kind of success or wins in the recent short term or over the past 50+ years

Leafs simp - maybe the fans are the problem...

Agree. I will casually follow standings and all of that next year but as far as I am concerned Leafs 2021 season starts with Round 2, game 1

The leafs have lost all 5 of their first series with the matthews core.

That must be a lot of character they have gained lmao

Fans like you are the problem with this team.

I almost did figure it out. The Leafs offered a few rounds of therapy to help but went home after one.
Oh well.

Of course lapi couldn't answer your post intelligently so he just completely side stepped it.

Some posters don't even realize how biased they are.

Pretty much the same for me. I'm here only to watch Jets collapse and see their tears (I've already witnessed the Oilers lose it).

Might stick around a bit longer to drink the Habs tears once they get eliminated by one of the US teams.

Yeah you are so right BLOW IT ALL UP AND START FROM SCRATCH. DUMP EVERYONE ON THE TEAM NOW!!!!!! I expect this to be done by the end of the day.

I do not accept losing but I'm experienced enough to know the patience and fortitude it takes to win in the NHL. You learn and grow along the way. Look at every single other team that has won the Cup in the cap era. I challenge you to do that oh super duper smarter than everyone else fan that you think you are.

LOL

Pure genius.

The way the Leafs started games 5, 6 & 7 are the fans fault.... REALLY?! The OP is really avoiding the real issue which are the players and management . This isn't the right mix and something needs to change. I'm not saying blow up the whole core, but you need to tinker with it. You are not going to get rid of Matthews, the Leafs lacked a generational player like him for years; Nylander with his contract and playoff performance would be a no. Tavares has a NMC so you are handcuffed there which leads the logical choice Marner. Moving him would not only free up cap room but get you a good return. I know that this won't happen though, management is commited to keeping this together and if they lose a valuable player in Hyman, well I can't see who will be going in after the puck if we lose Simmons too.

Quote me where I said to blow it all up and start from scratch. Quite the straw man you've made but I'm not surprised.

I have actually looked at all the teams to win during the salary cap era. Have you?

Not a single team has won with 50% of their cap tied up in 4 forwards.

Yet you want to continue on with dubas' clearly flawed vision?

Look at cap friendly. Only 1 player out of the top 16 highest paid is still in the playoffs. Price. Thats it. We have 3 in the top 7. Not one is signed for 8 years either.

Giving the keys to the team to a rookie gm with no pro experience at such a promising time was a major mistake.

I expected you to look at the teams that have won and gauge their path to the cup. How many years did it take them to get there, how many series losses etc etc A far more comprehensive study is what I thought you would do.

I'm not going to do it. Figure it out man.

Lol. They haven't come out of the any other crushing playoff losses as "changed men". Your estimation of Marner is just as big of a guess as anyone else's. More actually, because the guys who want to get rid of Marner can at least point directly to playoff performance history. Yours is purely a guess, hope and some wishful thinking.

But maybe you're right. Maybe Marner turns a corner. That would certainly be a fear of mine in any potential trade. What I'm really afraid of for this off-season is that I have zero confidence in Dubas and Keefe being the guys to make those judgements.

Very true. I think staying the course is the best option for us for at least another season or two. I may be wrong but I think Marner et al will learn immensely from what happened this season. I like what is happening with our defense and I also think Foligno is going to re-sign with us and be a pivotal piece going forward.

I stopped religiously watching the Leafs years ago. Will typically get together with a couple of friends for the Saturday night game, but weeknights I may watch the 3rd as my wife generally heads for bed around 9:00. And there is no way I'm staying up to watch anything that starts later than 8pm.

That is probably reasonable when considering 2017 and 2018. But the last 3 post seasons have me concerned that there may be some type of learning disability.

History has shown these lessons are learned over multiple seasons and don't happen in 2-4 years, it's over 5.
