He is not wrong.

Yes he is. When has this group ever been great?

NO!

Amen! Find some other idiot with a better record! Preferably someone whose never missed the playoffs and wins the Stanley Cup every year -- or at least every other year -- because we've had too much of losing! Bunch of rotten losers!

Trade, buy out or terminate everyone making more than $9 million dollars! Those big contracts kill you, you can't fill out a roster! Nobody wins with too many big contracts anyways!

Hallelujah! It was much better before Shanahan arrived and the Leafs had never made the playoffs on the salary-cap era. Making the playoffs every year is soooo overrated!

We hate mediocrity! Let's fire everyone in the organization, raze the arena, demand new ownership and start from scratch!

Yes! NO MEDIOCRITY! NO MEDIOCRITY! NO MEDIOCRITY! NEVER!

Um, ok.

Are you doing OK?

NO!

Detroit have won 3 straight and are now ahead of TOR in the standings.

The only positive thing to take from this is they've played 2 more games.

Sheldon Keefe better seriously consider 2 or 3 more losses could end his time with TOR.

This is the NHL. Organizations have fired coaches for a lot less.

Missing the playoffs could be the best thing to happen to the team in a long time. No major injuries to blame. Then maybe, just maybe we'd see a proper shakeup.

Another 2nd-3rd place division finish just to win a couple playoff games? What's the f***ing point? Just to run it back again

not really possible to shake up when your core 4 all full have NMCs

Sry, you don't read my post thoroughly. I mean they did do some great things in the games (such as the first goal in the Oilers game), but it is not enough to overcome their mistakes or poor plays. I don't know if he is in denial, participant's ribbon belief or N.K. Sports news view. Leafs must right the ship ASAP.

I wonder if the FO has figured out that now they grossly overpaid WN, the other players know that this is a temporary gig. You dont need to stick up for anyone or even play a hard winning brand of hockey. Just get out there and try and showcase yourself, play for you and hope to land a good contract. Dont commit to low money team friendly anything here.

Congrats on creating a toxic workplace environment MLSE.

Probably not. This fanbase gobbles up excuses like it's thanksgiving turkey. As long as the players put a sad face on and say they tried their darnedest this fanbase will probably accept it.
Or they can put on a defiant face, say they're doing many things right, playing great hockey and they don't care what anyone outside the dressing room thinks, that works too.

The number one skill they learned under Dubas and Keefe is how to deflect in the media.

If this team doesn't put some wins together and put themselves comfortably in a playoff spot as the deadline approaches, it will be interesting.

They DO have a first round pick in this upcoming draft, correct? If they are on the edge of the playoffs, management may be desperate to make a move to put them over the top, would they be willing to part with that 1st rounder, more than in other years, to get the best 'rental' available?

On the other hand, if they are close to missing the playoffs, that could turn into a pick that is in the teens (possibly) if they did miss the playoffs.

I'd still think they would not be overly excited about a pick in the teens. BUT, you are going to have Matthews, Nylander, and likely Marner tied up for man years to come. You ARE going to need some quality young guys in the pipeline for the next 3-5 years at some point to bring up to this team, fill in roles who are not higher priced.

94-95 points is probably the projected cut off for making/missing the playoffs this year. Leafs have 50 points in 42 games. They would have to get 45 points or less in the next 40 to be in trouble.

That means if the get 0.565 percent of the remaining available points or less, they might be in trouble. Right now they are at 0.595.

I'm not saying they ARE in trouble, but they have already had multiple games against San Jose, Chicago, Ottawa, Buffalo, Columbus, Anaheim...basically the bottom of the league they have played double digits against already.
A QUICK look at the schedule shows the ONLY games they have left against the 'easy' teams are 2 with Buffalo (which always seem to be harder than they should) and one against Anaheim.

From what I can find with a web search they have played the 2nd 'easiest' schedule in the league so far...but from this point until the end of the season they have the hardest remaining schedule.

If they are getting 59.5% of available points while playing the 2nd easiest schedule to this point...i might be possible they get 56.5% or less of points with the hardest remaining schedule.

i seriously hope we don't make any moves at the deadline.

The team so far has done noting to deserve any upgrades and quite frankly im tired of pissing away assets just to lose anyway.

That being said, im confident the team will make the playoffs. Way to much talent not to- which i will take 100% of the time. Gotta make the playoffs to win a cup

Let’s scrape into the playoffs this year, maybe this will change their fortunes. It really shouldn’t matter, but maybe psychologically it will help

I'm personally not worried about missing playoffs. These are the type of players we know can and will turn it on when there is trouble in sight.

The only concerns would be if we get terrible goaltending or an injury to a key player etc.

I'm no longer convinced this is a team that makes the playoffs.

I take back what I said about this being a meaningless 82 games regular season. That was under the assumption the Leafs would breeze into the playoffs. Instead they decided to start playing shitty hockey earlier this year.

The result is that the regular season is more exciting than normal.

Speculation of them missing the playoffs. Of Keefe and Shanahan getting fired. Of every player on the team being traded.

This is the whole reason I follow the Leafs.

The off ice soap opera that happens aside from the on ice performance. It's all so dramatic. Whatever happens on the ice is just bonus compared to the shenagins happening in the locker room.

If they don't make the playoffs this year I can't wait to see what happens next.

They will "breeze" into the playoffs. Losing 4 games in January doesn't dictate a season (just as winning 4 games in a season does not). Tampa and Detroit are as prone to losing streaks as they are to winning streaks, and by the end of the season those teams will have enough losing streaks to sit behind the Leafs. I'm not even convinced that Florida will hang on to second place in the Atlantic.

We will be a wildcard team but I do expect us to squeak our way in and get crushed by Boston or Florida

34 scores 70
88 100+pts
leafs dont make playoffs...now that would be a very leafy thing to do.
Still wouldn’t be as bad as the pens.
Mario Lemieux wins art ross in the 87-88 season, 70 goals 168 points. Pens missed the playoffs.

They won't be a wildcard team. Everyone is getting carried away. They will pass Florida, who are trending back to normal after that 8 game winning streak, and probably stay there as the distance to Boston is likely too great at this stage of the season.

So you are saying The Toronto Maple Leafs are The Young and the Restless for Canadian men.

Horrified
