We have so many top 6 offense first forwards i think we have to consider a radical approach to our forward lines. I think we need to spread the grinders and scoring forwards out across the lines.

I would do something this.

Bread-Tro-Vesey (that line worked, but it back together)
Kreider-Zib-Tarasenko
Laffy-Goody-Kane
Motte/Blidh - Chytil - Kakko

I think these lines give you the best chance at defending 5v5. And puts at least one netfront presence on each line. I seriously don't love these lines. I don't love the mix period. I want to remove at least one offensive winger and replace them Blidh or Cuylle or anyone that takes the body and can retrieve the puck.

Edit comment: others beat me to it but anyway I share their idea

Vesey on the top line makes the Kane trade pointless.

Laffy - Zib - Kane
Panarin -Trochek - Tarasenko
Kreider - Chytil - Kakko

or

Kreider - Zib - Kakko (worked)
Panarin - Trochek - Tarasenko
Laffy - Chytil - Kane

I get it. You had to see me in the 1st period. Somebody has to whip this team into shape. Nice to see Laf get two goals but we've seen flashes before disappearing. We'll see.

We used to disagree a lot but I'm different now. I've grown up with this board. Wouldn't trade it for anything. This board deserves to win.

I know that sounds crazy but you have to understand where the bar is. Most sports talk is social media toxicity, Sal from Ronkonkoma calling WFAN to rehash points from the 80's, and casuals who know the big players. Those people don't understand points like "Miller is good at carrying but not passing," or "I don't like how KZT work together," or "Kreider is an effective forechecker precisely because he doesn't run around just to hit." You can disagree with me, but people on HF hear me and understand me.

This board is crazy and I call it dumb when I'm frustrated but it's the most nuanced sports talk community ON THE INTERNET.

I love Liverpool but I don't have this with Liverpool. It's just log onto Twitter and either "[whipping boy] sucks" or "I heard we're getting [ridiculous rumor that is never happening]." That's literally it. You feel like nobody's listening when you make a salient, thought-out point. Hell, the only decent place I have to discuss the Yankees in-depth is the baseball thread on here.

We're glad you're here too. I'm glad everyone is here. Except Tob and Ben Harpur.

You forgot

Strome and Panarin had better chemistry than Trocheck and Panarin.

Better hope this break helps everybody get their heads back on straight. That wasn't our worst game, but it was still a really poor effort for the most part. The kids have cooled off, which is natural and happens to every line in the league, but it's telling that this year, the team has basically gone as they go.

Panarin had a good week right after we got Tarasenko, but he's been a net negative the rest of the year. Zibanejad-Kreider-Tarasenko has been a very bad line. Vesey hasn't been what he was most of the year.

Hopefully, everybody starts getting on the same page and getting the goal to the front of their minds soon. Right now, the mix is really off. The team needs an identity badly.

How do you judge the relative merits of a coach?

It can't be data or results-driven, because otherwise you'd be proveably wrong. In his 1st season, he went to the semis with a team that didn't even make the playoffs the year before.

He has the best or 2nd best winning percentage in franchise history.

He took an expansion team to the finals. I don't think that has ever happened in the history of the league.

Personally, I don't think the coach matters much. Personnel and luck always wins.

So, how do you reach your conclusion using something other than your feelings?

Which Rangers coaches have been better? Which have been worse? How do you come up with your rankings?
Tell the Bruins that coaching doesn’t matter that much.

Oh and AV and Torts >>>>> than your boyfriend GG. Quinn probably edges him too which is a sad statement.

Panarin's been a jackass in the two games since the Kane trade. He's trying so hard to impress his bud and pass everything under the sun to him.

Kane himself has looked like Eric Staal on the Rangers.

The Rangers have bent over backwards to bring Panarin's best buds in when he whined after Strome was let go which was the right choice. If he doesn't pick it up the last 18-19 games and has a bad playoff, he should be the one to go even at 50% retention.

They need the break and to start getting healthy. If one of Lindgren or Motte are not available, then recall Cullye for games and let him learn.

Mikkola is just a slightly faster Patrick Nemeth.

Was it really that hard to just say no and get some fiber on this team like Kulikov and Bonino/

Panarin playing like an idiot and Trochek too nervous to even keep the puck on his stick. Move Kane with Chytil and Laf until the rest of the team settles down because they are embarrassing themselves

Honest question does anyone think we have a chance of beating this Bruins team even if we're 100% healthy?

If they go to the net and get greasy goals, it's possible. At least one of the goals today doesn't happen if Lindgren and Miller are playing.

At least one more is scored if the first unit tried to do anything other than pass to Kane.

Need to break up the lines, save Kane and Panarin from each other.

Also, the league is adjusting to our PP. If we can’t adapt, we’re dead.

Take the 4 days. Get some practice in, get the team back together, hopefully Lindgren comes back and let's move on to the home stretch. This is the team for the run. I'll root for this team and block out useless negativity.

They lost last two games because of Gallant. These games were winnable. 1) Failed to score on 5 min pp then just had to try Vladdy on the right, let Kane watch from the bench, it’s normal, he didn’t have practice with the team yet, and PP with Tarasenko scored 1/1 against Flyers, and looked good. 2) Pulling out goalie was awful, just put Bread, Mika, Kane, Fox, Vladdy there with Halak in net and let them try to score. 3) Somebody here is saying that Bread is King in Rangers doing everything he wants. Stop with this bullshit. I’ve never seen such unconfident Panarin as these two years under GG. His hockey IQ, unpredictability and creativity are his best weapons, he was flying in Chicago and Columbus, cause coach Q ant Torts let his line play like they want, GG dumb and ineffective system totally neutralized it. The same is with Kane. Why bother to trade for him if Gallant kills all his offensive instincts and try to turn him into grinder. This team needs coach who can teach offense.

This forum makes the game more interesting and fun for me. I‘m usually trying to come up with ideas in the next GDT to get some laughs, sometimes it works, sometimes crickets. Lol. If everyone agreed and were always happy, this place would be very F’ing boring.

No words can describe, Mika coming in with the ocean parting like he's Moses... He literally was in the high slot with a clear lane like he was on a breakawy..... AND HE PASSES IT OFF TO A WHACK ANGLE TO SOMEONE NOT EVEN READY TO DO ANYTING ... I have never seen anything like that.

I want the Mika that WANTED TO SCORE. The guy deserves credit for his all-around game but I honestly preferred his game as 'get me the puck, I'm putting it in the net' Mika. He turned too much into Panarin. When the entire teams starts emulating Panarin, it becomes an issue.

That sums up this team right now.

It’s a shame they gave up on Jones after 16 games, and not just that, but to replace him with the definition of a plug in Harpur, who is big, but doesn’t even hit, which at least what a plug would normally do.

You should be trying all kinds of shit for the 60 games before the deadline, good nights, bad nights, it’s a long season, and then make your improvements at the deadline.

They also extended Harpur for no reason. I got it, he can be sent to Hartford next year, I’ll believe that when I see it.
Harpur has very little upper body strength for a big guy. He got bundled in most of the fights he's been in his career, and the muffins he lobs from the point also are a dead giveaway. He's not a great skater. In order to be a hard hitter in this league you have to be able to line someone up, adjust quickly if they see the hit coming to change direction and stay on target, and have upper body strength to finish the check hard.

He has none of those things. Hardest check he's thrown this year, he was skating backwards and hipchecked someone into the boards - I don't remember who they were playing, but that hit was hard largely because Harpur was almost out of control falling backwards towards the wall when he threw the hit so he actually delivered it full force.

It shouldn't take having to become an out of control bowling ball for a guy as big as he is to throw a hit.

As for Mikkola, I think he has the chops to be a good defensive defenseman but his reads aren't there and he's not physical enough, but he could be. I envision him having the ability to play a mean game like Haakenpaa someday perhaps. He has the skating ability and upper body strength to learn how to cream guys in open ice and finish them off into the corners. Would rather see him do that than default to trying to use the stick or bear hug.

Being realistic (I know, how dare me), the field wins the Cup even at the best of times and I don't think this is a Cup winner. Said it from the beginning.

I do think, if healthy, they'll throw their hats in the ring. It's the journey, not the destination.

My frustration is more with the league. I don't know if I see a path to becoming a Cup winner with the cap constraints, barring unexpected development from an inordinate amount of young players (Tampa, NJ) or older players take absolute joke, cap-circumventing contracts (Boston). Or somebody just has an absolutely bonkers year like Kadri on the Avs followed by an absolutely bonkers playoffs by some mid ass dude (Nichushkin). And even then, they got to rest for three rounds in the minor league conference.

Basically, in a hard cap league where you can't *really* roster build and fill every hole, the forces that get you there are up to the universe.

Except for the one play where Kane was wide open in the slot and Panarin chose a chest snipe instead. It’s been very frustrating watching these two so far, but I have confidence they will come around.

The fact that the team was very much in this game today is a positive takeaway for me. They were playing short handed, down 2 top four D, playing 3 in four nights, and trying to integrate a newly acquired superstar.

Let’s see how they look on Thursday before hitting the panic button.

Our roster is cup worthy imo. Our coaching is the handicap right now.

We can't breakout/transition. That's sort of a problem. The team looks to half-ass 'buying in'. There's been a disconnect. We find ways to gut out wins but there is so much untapped potential IMO
