Post-Game Talk: We Lawst

Honest question does anyone think we have a chance of beating this Bruins team even if we're 100% healthy?
I think we do.

The Devils and Tampa scare me more.

Their forechecking against this defense is going to be a huge problem.

The Bruins aren't that great at checking. Anybody could have put the guys we had out there today in the 4th row. They can't move.

He looked great even when they had to do this before the last game.

Panarin is just spamming passes to Kane. Take Kane out of the equation and he'll go back to doing what he normally does (hopefully.)

I fully acknowledge that Kreider-Zibanejad-Kane may also end up being terrible, but it works in theory and Panarin-Tro-Tarasenko has worked in the little bit that we've seen of it.
Gallant already has these lines in his head. The leash will be literally endless and he'll just bench the kids, fair or not, when it doesn't work,

Just have to remind myself that this stuff doesn't f***ing matter. It ruins my day man and really what ruins my day more is knowing that the penguins will win. I can deal with us struggling. I can't deal with teams chasing us going on these f***ing unbeatable runs.

I think the team will be fine, but I can even convince myself the penguins will lose again in the next three weeks.

That's the real problem for me
I get it. We all love this team. Why else would I be here for nearly 16 years and you for 20+? It is hard when our expectations don't meet reality and when we have seen two cups in.. 83 years?

Sports can be a funny thing. They can be a positive distraction from real life when we need them to be, which was the case for me last year dealing with the worst year of my life. But they can also be a negative distraction when we love a team as much as we do.

As hard as it might be, just try to remember it is only a game. It is hard at times, but it is the truth. I think that is part of the reason I have been so frustrated with our board over the past few weeks. We all have our differences but we are all here because we love the Rangers. We may disagree with the direction of the franchise at times, but we all want the same thing. We should all be here to support one another as much as possible on every level. If you ever need to vent, my PM box is wide open and I promise you as long as it isn't directed at me, there is no possible infraction penalty for whatever you say in that box!

Cheers buddy.

Depends how the first two rounds go, are the Rangers needing 14 games just to get there with a lot of long tight games? Then probably not, but if they get there, they have a shot, you don’t get past Carolina and Jersey in B2B rounds in bad form.

Boston will also have a tough match vs Tampa or Toronto, I hate them, but let the Islanders get the 8 seed. They will grind out a win or two vs Boston, and annoy them. Sorokin capable of a 970 series too.

We have so many top 6 offense first forwards i think we have to consider a radical approach to our forward lines. I think we need to spread the grinders and scoring forwards out across the lines.

I would do something this.

Bread-Tro-Vesey (that line worked, but it back together)
Kreider-Zib-Tarasenko
Laffy-Goody-Kane
Motte/Blidh - Chytil - Kakko

I think these lines give you the best chance at defending 5v5. And puts at least one netfront presence on each line. I seriously don't love these lines. I don't love the mix period. I want to remove at least one offensive winger and replace them Blidh or Cuylle or anyone that takes the body and can retrieve the puck.
Flip Kane and Tarasenko and Fil and Goodrow and that works for me. But yeah I don't disagree with your approach at all. Panarin has done his best work as a Ranger with a puck-retriever/grinder on his opposite wing, no need to force him and Kane together.

💯

Kane looks shellshocked and well he might.
Chelios nailed it during the intermission. When he was traded mid-season, it took him until the playoffs to adjust. He was still in shock up until then and we may forget, but Chelios is one of the all time great American born defenseman. He wasn't just a star, he was a leader. I can imagine that Kane, despite having his old buddy back, is going through something similar.

Messier, Chelios and Subban all agreed that the Rangers could be the most dangerous team heading into the playoffs provided we are healthy and have our shit together. The latter are two big IF's, but you have two HHOF'ers and a guy who I have a ton of respect for in Subban, all in agreement. I have to think they will be correct.

Well there’s something for both the optimists and pessimists right now.

This team has so much talent and different combinations to test that the sky is the limit. Thankfully we still have time to experiment.

However, if this team fizzles out, I imagine Drury is going to explore drastic changes. I’m looking at GG, Panarin, Kreider and Trouba. NMC or no NMC, it’s not going to be pretty.

If this team fizzles out, I have to think Gallant is potentially on the chopping block. Drury, despite our feelings for when he played for us, is a smart guy who has enough experience to know right and wrong.

Balance issues aside we have all the talent anyone could want. The coaching is the real question. When the pressure is on Gallant always comes up with a boneheaded play, and he struggles to get the basic things right. Those are factual observations based on his actions since he came here.

Anyone belongs with Panarin as long as he is not having a fever dream on the ice. I am convinced that when he plays like warm soft serve it's because he sees everyone as goombas and the puck is a mushroom. Strome just happened to look exactly like Peach

If Vally is pointing out what's going on with Shesterkin, you would think these issues would be relayed over and looked at? Unless this is what they want. He's playing deeper in his net and much wider. Yet he still drop and shrinks on shot. On that Bergeron goal, he normally would kick out past the top of the crease and be in position standing square. Puck hits him last season.

Now he's getting as wide and low as possible, while deeper in the net. Horrible combinations for a smaller goalie.

Giving Panarin and Kane 21-22 minutes....

Laffy and Tank 13-15 minutes.

Galaxy brain.

I just want to say I am so glad you are here. We don't always agree (although lately its been like 99.99999%) but you provide a clear perspective on the team and don't hesitate to admit if you have been incorrect. You're a good dude.

And on a separate note, I don't mean to be dismissive to our fans on these boards who are frustrated. If I have been, I apologize. I just feel like sometimes we tend to be reactionary to the micro instead of paying attention to the macro. I don't know all of your ages, although I know many of you tend to be on the younger side and may not remember the dark ages too well. It doesn't make your opinion any less valid. But our recent moves have not been dark ages moves, where we were 8 points out of a playoff spot and traded picks for players like Tank and Kane. Our core has been built differently and that is ok. We have some incredible pieces. Sometimes I think it is easy to lose focus of what we have when we only focus on what everyone else has.

Kreider Zibs Kakko
Panarin Tro Tank
Laffy Chytil Kane

Zibs line needs to be fixed more than anything. They are sitting at 30xG% since the change... worst line the entire season. While Kreider Zibs Kakko was one of our best lines. Why is this so hard? WE CANNOT HAVE ZIBS LINE BE AT 30 xG% AGAIN THIS PLAYOFFS

We have a team good enough to win.

We’re going nowhere with this absolute doofus behind the bench. Last year it was covered up by Igor’s generational season and a hot power play.

This year it’s all laid bare. He’s a joke.

How do you judge the relative merits of a coach?

It can't be data or results-driven, because otherwise you'd be proveably wrong. In his 1st season, he went to the semis with a team that didn't even make the playoffs the year before.

He has the best or 2nd best winning percentage in franchise history.

He took an expansion team to the finals. I don't think that has ever happened in the history of the league.

Personally, I don't think the coach matters much. Personnel and luck always wins.

So, how do you reach your conclusion using something other than your feelings?

Which Rangers coaches have been better? Which have been worse? How do you come up with your rankings?

we could've had an xG% king but we let him go to the Devils (and before anyone says "we couldnt re-sign himmmmm" well we can't re-sign Tarasenko or Kane either lol)

I get it. You had to see me in the 1st period. Somebody has to whip this team into shape. Nice to see Laf get two goals but we've seen flashes before disappearing. We'll see.

We used to disagree a lot but I'm different now. I've grown up with this board. Wouldn't trade it for anything. This board deserves to win.

I know that sounds crazy but you have to understand where the bar is. Most sports talk is social media toxicity, Sal from Ronkonkoma calling WFAN to rehash points from the 80's, and casuals who know the big players. Those people don't understand points like "Miller is good at carrying but not passing," or "I don't like how KZT work together," or "Kreider is an effective forechecker precisely because he doesn't run around just to hit." You can disagree with me, but people on HF hear me and understand me.

This board is crazy and I call it dumb when I'm frustrated but it's the most nuanced sports talk community ON THE INTERNET.

I love Liverpool but I don't have this with Liverpool. It's just log onto Twitter and either "[whipping boy] sucks" or "I heard we're getting [ridiculous rumor that is never happening]." That's literally it. You feel like nobody's listening when you make a salient, thought-out point. Hell, the only decent place I have to discuss the Yankees in-depth is the baseball thread on here.

We're glad you're here too. I'm glad everyone is here. Except Tob and Ben Harpur.
