f*** if we only kept Lou our core would have learned to compete
Doubtful. You can’t make someone compete. Lou or Trotz. Can’t make them take hits to make plays or get dirty in the playoffs. Forecheck hard and push back when pushed.

I agree with most of this minus the Tavares signing. Its bizarre to me that suddenly, in recent months, people hate it. We got an elite center without giving up an asset.

And Lou offered him more. Sooooo was it a good move or not?

This was an article in the Toronto Sun last year, and its even more true today.

The day the Maple Leafs picked Dubas over Lamoriello looks worse with every Islanders win

Islanders’ Lou Lamoriello wins 2020 Jim Gregory GM of the Year Award

Lou Lamoriello, whose off-season decision making and leadership helped steer New York Islanders into the Eastern Conference Finals of the Stanley Cup Playoffs just two years after the departure of franchise cornerstone John Tavares, has been named the 2020 Jim Gregory General Manager of the Year Award winner.

New York Islanders have now reached Final 4 is back to back seasons.

Lou can do no wrong to some it's f***ing weird
What happens in NY is totally irrelevant here. A certain mod has always had a hard on for him though
So if Dubas goes to Ottawa and they start winning playoff series is he all of a sudden a genius?

You can rewind to when it was signed - a number of people were saying this. You can’t tie that much money into 4 players, it’s going to fail, you’re going to want to move money, and because Tavares has the NMC you’re probably looking at Mitch Marner trades..

... that is, unless you want to keep trying the same thing that doesn’t work over and over.

You can if the cap was rising each season. The flat cap forces dubas to change the plan. If he doesn't hes no better than the dinosaurs he came in to replace.

No, you can’t. It’s never been done, and I think you should look at the salary cap structure of all the teams that make the final 4 going back all the way to the start of the salary cap.

See if you can spot what’s different about every single one compared to the Leafs.

Flat cap compounded the problem, something everyone else is dealing with.

Look at the dinosaurs record in regular season and playoffs vs Leafs since the move. The difference is staggering.

How many more first round participation ribbons do you have to hand out?

nope. Everything somehow is about Toronto

Ehlers scores a goal. Sure would be nice if marner could score...... ehlers had a 22 game goal less streak.

Only Toronto could choke in game 7s. Can’t believe we missed on Aho. Carolina is great.... carolina has been shut out 2 of last 3 elimination games.

Toronto’s core are chokers. Can’t figure it out. 5 years first round exits. Tampa are winners.... tampa missed 4 of their first 5 and were bottom 3 at this time

Lou is so great wouldn’t komorov be great here.... he was here. It was 4-1 remember?

Lou is so smart. No cap hits under 11. He tried. Twice. They said no.

just insane. Not everything is about Toronto. Whenever anyone wins its somehow about Toronto.

If Montreal wins.... Toronto are chokers
Vegas wins....... OMG 4 years and a cup? 1967
Isles win... Lou
Colorado. Mack is a real winner. He took less. Kadri is a star. (Forgetting that Mack was a hug bust)
tampa. The core took less. Real winners (despite taxes and historical choking)

If carolina won. Shoulda took Aho.
If ottawa won... brutal.
Edmonton. Mcdavid and drai took less

Somehow. Always everything in the world only exists to harm the leafs in some magical way

I know right? And just imagine, only another 9 or so if's, and the Maple Leafs would be laughing.

And look at all our stars, man the future so bright my eyes hurt!

If it hurts this bad, maybe you should move on.

I heard the Isles are a great team.

Only an asset if it’s used properly.

Having $11m in cap space and then handing every penny of it to a #2C is more of a boat anchor than an asset.
Exactly. Each cap dollar concentrated on a small group of players = filling the rest of the roster with inferior players.

Only one way this four headed can work: a constant stream of elc contracts who are then traded before they cash in. Given the leafs average drafting this will never be possible.

RFA's get paid now. You're gambling on them producing. That's the way it is nowadays.
Who are all these other RFAs getting paid UFA money?

Islanders bridged Barzal. Tampa did the same with Sergachev. Columbus with Dubois. Tampa with Point. Winnipeg with Laine. Calgary with Tkachuk.

Who else recently signed their own RFAs to market setting deals that walk them right into young free agency? Rantanen maybe?

So you would take any GM over Dubas? Do people just ignore the good things he's done?
Sure getting Brodie was good but he has handcuffed this team with big 4. He has no way of making this team better because we’re against the cap. We would have a way more balanced team if Lou was still the GM. I don’t want to hear the flat cap excuse because we would have an even better team with more cap room.

Which Leafs RFA would walk right into free agency?

Balance doesnt equal wins neccesarily.
