How is this another game for Handsome Brett discussion, like did he boof a couple chances? Of course he did because he's not a good NHL player, if he has a Dale Wiese career it would be great for him. But we know what his deal is and at least his line was noticeable, we have a pecho frío top six that has a really hard time showing up in games like this and a "kid line" that's kind of floating around in space?

I want the poll to see who really thinks David Quinn will be fired. I would bet that Gorton keeps him. 70/30 likelihood, anyway.

As soon as John and Steve highlighted Bailey and then Nelson's droughts, I knew we were cooked. I told my roommate right then and there that Bailey would score the first goal followed by Nelson.

That's an insight you can only get after decades in Rangerstown
Have a long pointless streak goalless streak and breakout vs this team. Always happens

IDK I chalk that one up to losing Trouba in the first and having Brendan Smith as your next guy up after that. This team just doesn't have the depth on defense to take that kind of blow and you had to know Fox wasn't going to be the best hockey player on the planet for a second straight month.

I'm still encouraged by the kids, just as underwhelmed as always with the vets. And if I had to pick, I'd pick just as it is for the sake of what's to come. (hopefully not big contract extensions to Zibanejad, Strome, Buchnevich, and ESPECIALLY Quinn)

We have beaten Washington 4 times this year and just took 3 of 4 points from the same Isles.
Washington plays man to man. We've had success against them

We definitely didn't beat the Islanders with east-west hockey.

I should have said, consistently. We can only play perimeter finesse hockey consistently. Cannot rely on this team to play playoff hockey.

I'm expecting Buch to get moved over the summer, yeah. I'd much prefer Kreider, but I don't think that's viable.

How are you expecting Buchnevich to get moved? There’s just a slight bromance and chemistry, coming off a career year. If anything, I see 89 accepting less to stay. This isn’t a fantasy hockey team.

Soft mentality by the vets. Who are the Messier type the real vocal types in the NHL that when that player speak the players listen. Rangers leaders are soft.

Look, I love Messier, both as a player and for what he did for the organization. But, we seem to have a bit of blind-spot when it comes to leadership. Messier was the leader here at the end of the Dark Ages, and despite being a great leader the players clearly didn't listen because the teams were crappy and dysfunctional, and nothing was achieved. Likewise his leadership really didn't achieve much in Vancouver. So was he soft? No, but there's a lot more to both leadership and success than just being vocal and/or tough.

What we need is a group of players who buy into the club and work together, work at bettering their game, and establish some standards. We also need skill throughout the lineup and a coach who can implement a good system while making adjustments as needed

As far as leadership goes, our entire team lives and dies by the streaks of our top scorers. We're blessed with Panarin who has yet to have a cold streak since he became a Ranger, but otherwise, it's a really difficult needle to thread: come together and buy into the team while also leave everything to these four guys and pray they win it for us.

I said as much in the Devils PGT thread. They play like loose stools.

Once they try to move Buch and find out they'll only get a rental like return of futures back for him, futures that even if they make the team will play on he 3rd line (or second 3rd line), that trade looks a lot less palatable to them

I don't like Quinn but why would 1 game get him fired. They have had shit games before and he is still here. They just went 8-1-2 also.

Because it's not just the one game. There's a trend of these big games the team laying an egg. Just like in the bubble where they were the worst team there.

If Quinn doesn't at least demote Blackwell in favor of Kravtsov now then I hope he never gets another head coaching job after this.

To be fair, Blackwell is having a 50 point pace rookie season. That's nothing to sneeze at. He will be getting paid 725k again next year. If you can keep his stats high for the rest of the year, and to begin next season, you could potentially trade him for something really nice next year. Teams would love to have a 50+ point guy for 725k in a flat cap era.

4 of those games are against arguably the worst team in the league after the tdl.

the issue is quinn’s decision making is baffling. his lines make no sense. his playing howden over goth is dumb af. the fact blackwell gets pp time over laf is blasphemous. and to top it all off, the offense has little structure/system; it’s guys playing off their instincts and hoping for the best.

the rangers could be so much better with nhl caliber decision making behind the bench.

Why would that be exactly? You don't think teams would give up anything of value for a 26yo 60 point potential player who also PK's and plays some defense.
