Hate how Gallant just “doesn’t know what happened today”. Call them out. Gutless performance by a team that couldn’t get the job done. Someone should have stepped up to the plate in the 3rd and done something to shift momentum. Where’s the leadership? What’s Trouba doing when the lead is slipping away?
We needed a Jim Mora-type speech from GG.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Vesey got absolutely nuked 5v5 today.

Last year, Kreider-Zibanejad-Lafreniere was one of the best lines in the league and Gallant put Vatrano there, making both lines much worse.

This year, Kreider-Zibanejad-Kakko was one of the best lines in the league and Gallant put Vesey there, making both lines much worse.

I know the kids have issues and you can't just cry usage. I know the coach isn't a panacea.

But when they just outright voluntarily make the team worse to fill platitudes like "the 4th liner on my 1st line opens up space" and satisfy the self-fulfilling prophecy of "the line I concocted is the line I feel safe with," results on the ice be damned, don't clutch pearls when people skewer the coach.
??

Panarin was with Zibs.

The Goodrow Tro Vesey line was terrible offensively

I think the issue here is that scouts hadn't caught up yet to how important speed and skating have become at the NHL level. They are probably the number 1 attributes to be successful in the NHL now. That is a more recent thing. Scouts were basing their models on Laf and Kakko success off of outdated philosophies.
Also don't discount the lack of conviction a lot of guys have to go against the norm. Not everyone is like jarmo and willing to pass on a top 3 player when he knows he is right.

Don't forget even when draisaitl was picked a lot of people criticized it bc Bennett was supposed to be the guy. You don't hear about that stuff now.

I was suggesting this 18 months ago, if not prior to that.

Panarin is a great, fun to watch player, but he does not impact the game enough to warrant his salary. I wish his style was more aligned with winning NHL games because it’s frankly nicer to watch, but the fact of the matter is that it is not.

The fact that he is blocking a 1OA pick simultaneously is less important to me because that 1OA isn’t looking all that good, but I am more than ready to just bite the bullet.

I’d love to get more picks in this draft, and/or a speedy, skilled, north-south type of prospect in return for Panarin and then use his cap space to get a couple of established players in that mold to play in the middle six.
This team does not need to get more north/south. It needs more f***ing talent. Again, I know Panarin is annoying, but this team needs to go very much in the opposite direction of trading skill for north/south.

We already have young grinders. Kakko and Lafreniere.

You need cap space to sign talent. Do you see a short term fix here? If not then realize panarin is 31 and his game is already declining. You want to hang on and go back into the purgatory cycle again of high money tied to players on decline or maybe aim to get out of the mess that has been created here with the roster and cap so we can actually get better players instead of having 40 percent of the cap tied up into Mika, panarin, Kreider, trouba, and Trochek?

Guys kept shitting all over me this summer when I said this is the player we have after the injury and if we could move him just to get out of the contract it would be a win, yet here we are. 3 more years after this one at 11.6m and he just turned 31, it's only going to get better from here haha
I didn’t expect the injury to have this kind of impact. Aging for sure, and I was on the fence about it prior to the start of the season, since we didn’t know how competitive we’d be this year. Now? The only problem might be in finding takers.

I don't know if it's realistic on multiple fronts, but if a coach came in and said "do this and this or your ass is playing 9 minutes and I don't give a flying f*** what Jim is paying you," Panarin would be fixed tomorrow.

I'll say it again, Panarin is annoying, but I'm not seeing where the problem is that he's not "north/south" enough, for the most part.

I think more often than not, the problem with Panarin is that he doesn't f***ing do anything anymore.

This entire team is Barclay Goodrow.
But Goodrow is the orgs ideal player, so there's that.

He disappears for long stretches of time. He did it last year, then he tore it up, then he was what he was in the playoffs…a net negative. He started this year on fire but has disappeared again. Very difficult to gain momentum as a team when your go to guy is so inconsistent. Many others follow suit. Most consistent line is the kid line and it’s really not up for debate at this point. They should be line #1 at ES.

I completely agree and posted that earlier. It's inmates running the asylum here at this point. Vets get a free pass to do whatever. Kids will feel the "wraith," funny how laffy and miller are the only two called out by name in post game. Sure it's for the penalties but still, you couldn't name anyone else for missed coverages, passive play, lack of professionalism? Just Miller and laffy for "dumb" penalities?

Despite the claims of being "too finesse," I find this team to be completely milquetoast offensively and they're developing their young forwards into milquetoast players.

Somebody said Goodrow is their ideal. Sad but true.

i'm all in on panarin faking the pull up on the boards, everyone knows it's coming. c'mon bread man

I only got to watch the first and part of the second. So I can’t really say anything. But I have a feeling the issues I’ve been harping on are continuing.

Winning the blue paint on both ends, Panarin turning pucks over, D giving way too much space in front of Igor, carrying the puck in as opposed to dumping and retrieving, etc etc.

The team is either burnt out from last seasons playoff run or they are simply not disciplined enough to play the right way and do the little things all over the ice, at all times. Finally it’s a symptom of a broken team when a Lindgren goes down and the team system isn’t strong enough to withstand injuries. We simply don’t support the puck, clog the middle, sacrifice for each other, etc. and the issues that creates are myriad.

If you leave things as is, this will likely be a wasted year unless the team as a whole decides to commit Torts style to playing D. Or you bring in a staff that brings far harsher accountability.

This team has talent, unfortunately they’re all painfully slow. They need speed more than anything else to create more space and time for that talent to work.

Panarin’s sudden bouts of ES uselessness would be easier to tolerate he wasn’t making $12mm and uselesss in the playoffs. He won’t be here long term, the kids will be. I’m becoming very ready to use that $12mm to fill the lineup, forward and defense, with more speed to support our talented, but slow, kids and see what we have here.

If the kids suck, then we’re not going anywhere anytime soon, so let’s figure it out sooner rather than later.

Miller, imo, paid for Carpenter screwing up. That whole sequence is so typical of the Ranger's play this season. Missed plays, missed assignements, sloppy mistakes that lead to more sloppy mistakes. This is on the coaches imo, the lack of structure and a solid X and O base that's been drilled into the players so they don't even think about it twice.
