WCSF: Vegas Golden Knights (P1) vs. Edmonton Oilers (P2) (VGK Lead 3-2)

Oilers are very much still in this and I pretty much expect some sort of 6-2 thrashing as par for these playoffs in G6.

That said - the idea that Oilers fans are pinning this almost entirely on bad goaltending in this thread is far too neat of a copium package to be the whole truth. It basically let's the rest of the roster construction off the hook and side-steps all the 5v5 issues this roster has - including from some of its bigger name players. The "it's not fair the Knights have Adin Hill and we have Stuart Skinner" vibes are a bit ridiculous. And yes - we can acknowledge that PP points "count" while also acknowledging a lot of the caved/lazy/erratic play at even strength - which, last I checked, is still the majority of the game.

If the Oilers lose in this round - the calls for goalie upgrading for the one billionth time will be heavy but there's a lot more to chew on that just that.

They upgraded the goalie last summer, or so we were told at the time.

Ummm, do you watch Drai, like ever? He’s one of the cheapest players in the league.

Yes, he’s an amazing talent, no one can deny that. But when things aren’t going his way, he becomes a POS. Nutting, slew footing, slashing, etc.

Guys may hate him because he’s good, but most dislike him because he’s a cheap shot artist that will never back it up. Not once. Not ever.

Jesus, Nuge has dropped the gloves for his team, Drai, wouldn’t even cross his mind.
Honestly 99% of the time I see LD is post-Covid highlights. I knew he was a player that vents his frustration, capable of drawing the other team’s ire, but it always looked like “playoff hockey”, taking the occasional advantage. A tad dirty, but not in the realm of say, a Sean Avery or Kane.

I knew he wasn’t a fighter, but having viewed your post, I had to take a look on hockeyfights.com. I was surprised; there’s nothing.

Yeah, he’s not dirty dirty. I don’t think he’s trying to seriously hurt anyone, he’s just sore loser dirty.

When things aren’t going his way, he resorts to greasy shit like cupping guys. That’s his go to move.

I’d be okay with it, if just once he backed up his petty antics.

But he won’t. It’s been what, 7 years?

Honestly man I just wanted to see the Knights fight after facing adversity. They started the game with their best defenseman out (it flip flops between Pietrangelo and Theodore but Theodore has been really off lately) as preliminary adversity, two powerplay goals against early. That kind of stuff has been a perfect recipe for the team mentally falling apart. People can say what they want about game management but I'm just happy they actually played with some heart and consistent effort. Especially with the major penalty against, that was a huge danger of going full San Jose Game 7 and they only limited it to one goal.

If Vegas can play the way they did last night for the rest of the series, I'll take the loss if it comes. It'll sting, but it would be less disappointing if they battled and lost than if they crumpled and lost. The more annoying thing to me will be how shitty they played in games 2 and 4.

The late start time on a Sunday night is pure stupidity.

I can't see Edmonton winning this series now, especially if the playoffs follow the routine path of less and less powerplays the further you get. They've been significantly outplayed 5v5.

I don't know how Oilers fans convinced themselves that LA, the team who hasn't won a round in 9 years was better than Vegas, but they're not.
Who said LA was better than Vegas? They play a different style and are betting a shutting down the big guys but Vegas finished first in the conference and were always the better team.

You also thought the leafs would cakewalk to the finals and they barely avoided a sweep this round. I don't think anyone is putting much stock into any of your predictions.

The Oilers fans in the series thread said they would have preferred LA over Vegas in the first round because LA was the worst possible matchup for the Oilers and toughest team to play against. I think they were overhyping LA to make the Oilers seem better.

It doesn't seem like they were. I never said the Leafs would cakewalk to the finals and I never predicted the Leafs starting goaltender being injured in the second round.

I was at the bar. Could’ve cut a urinal in half after holding piss for 5 minutes of that Oil power play.

Just wanted to amplify this.

These guys are such. f***ing. doofuses. The self-inflicted wounds... What possible rationale is there for burying three of your games' top stars, playing head-to-head in a must-win game?

Didn't want to compete with the big no HUGE Cardinals - Red Sox May matchup of last place teams?

No he won't, he was beheaded unless you didn't watch the movie. Anyways the big bad Oilers will lose because they have a major weakness...goaltending. They aren't winning a cup anytime soon giving up 4 or 5 goals in most of these games
Hate to break it to you. But bad guys in the movies come back from the dead lots. Thanos lives.

I wouldn’t even put Drai in that list; if he makes someone mad, it’s because he’s good - not because he boarded a player with no penalty called, headbutts, etc.

I respect the Oilers; phenomenal team. However, I’ll chuckle and play sad music on a tiny violin every time someone conveniently edits from existence the fact that the Oilers ice two bigger “disturbers of shit” on a nightly basis, and if this series was ever to be played in a gentlemanly fashion, Kane escalated it beyond that.

Of course, if the Oilers keep taking shots at Stone/AP whilst otherwise chasing Hague and Kolesar up and down the ice, it isn’t like the Knights can’t make them pay for it on the scoreboard.

Drai is a rat. Dirty dirty when things don't go his way. I m an Oiler's fan and Drai fan but no denying his antics. I love it though but would absolutely despise him on another team

Yeah, he despises all four of us.

Best take.... also an Oil fan. I love Drai... I often say he's better than Matthews and he's a king in playoffs. But his nutshots are legendary!lol

The Golden Knights seem to be in control.

Edmonton needs to get better defense and goaltending.

Edmonton typically shows up when their back is against the wall. It should go 7 but it's only 1 game and hockey is a random ass sport. Goalie could steal it, few bounces or calls here and there and it could be over but, I hope not, I'll be in the building tomorrow.
